The amazing maker and doer community of Gilbert, Arizona
Gilbert, Arizona, is a place where the creative community and craft offerings are in your face. Our host Philwaukee dove deep: a goat yoga session at the Welcome Home Ranch, checking out the Riparian Preserve park, and then on to Agritopia, a community gardens farm and craftsman community.
At Joe's Farm Grill and the Uprooted Kitchen, there was no shortage of good eats. And this continued throughout Gilbert, from the Farmers Market to Joe's Real BBQ, plus awesome craft beer at the Arizona Wilderness Brewing Co.
Culturally, Gilbert offers a great community theatre (Hale Center Theatre), as well as an art walk and historical museum. Come check out this unique, down-home Southwestern town where rad people come together.

Lee Cronin: Making matter come alive
Before life existed on Earth, there was just matter, inorganic dead stuff. How improbable is it that life arose? And -- could it use a different type of chemistry? Using an elegant definition of life (anything that can evolve), chemist Lee Cronin is exploring this question by attempting to create a fully inorganic cell using a Lego kit of inorganic molecules -- no carbon -- that can assemble, replicate and compete.

In the wake of the 2011 Japanese earthquake and tsunami, mixed into the wreckage were lost and damaged photos of families and loved ones. The way we think about charity is dead wrong | Dan Pallotta
Activist and fundraiser Dan Pallotta calls out the double standard that drives our broken relationship to charities. Too many nonprofits, he says, are rewarded for how little they spend -- not for what they get done. Instead of equating frugality with morality, he asks us to start rewarding charities for their big goals and big accomplishments (even if that comes with big expenses). In this bold talk, he says: Let's change the way we think about changing the world.

Caitria and Morgan O'Neill: How to step up in the face of disaster
After a natural disaster strikes, there's only a tiny window of opportunity to rally effective recovery efforts before the world turns their attention elsewhere. Who should be in charge? When a freak tornado hit their hometown, sisters Caitria and Morgan O'Neill -- just 20 and 24 at the time -- took the reins and are now teaching others how to do the same. (Filmed at TEDxBoston)

How to make stress your friend | Kelly McGonigal
Stress. It makes your heart pound, your breathing quicken and your forehead sweat. But while stress has been made into a public health enemy, new research suggests that stress may only be bad for you if you believe that to be the case. Psychologist Kelly McGonigal urges us to see stress as a positive, and introduces us to an unsung mechanism for stress reduction: reaching out to others.
