Haleiwa Town Part 1 4/10/2018 [4K] Hawaii
Haleiwa Town Part 1 4/10/2018 [4K] Hawaii. Virtual morning walk of part 1 of Haleiwa Town walk, the mauka (mountain) side of town. This is the Wailua side of Haleiwa. You can hear so many birds in the background like in may of the Hawaii videos. This is mainly the food & shrimp trucks, McDonalds, Starbucks, small stores. This is the quieter side of town. Part 2 will have Matsumoto’s, Kua’aina and its much more lively.
Matsumoto Shave Ice in Oahu, HI
On the north shore of Oahu in a small but vibrant town of Hale'iwa, sits one of the most famous destinations on the island - Matsumoto Shave Ice. Owners Stanley and Noriko Matsumoto are second-generation proprietors of the namesake family business known for their signature shave ice or snow cone. Kaena Point Hike & Food in Haleiwa, Hawaii

On our latest trip to Hawaii, we had a few days to stay in Haleiwa, which is a small town on the north shore of Oahu. We had a nice relaxing day, with no plans and so this travel vlog is about how our day unfolded. As we were driving to on our way to find the Paalaa Kai bakery, by chance it happened to be Saturday, and on Saturday there is the Waialua farmer’s market. So we pulled in and stopped to see what they had. It was very small, not much available, but there was some good vegetables and fruits available and what I noticed was a man selling poke. So I bought a box of poke for $10 and as I ordered it, he mixed it all up with all the seasoning right then and there. It was delicious.
We then continued onto Paalaa Kai bakery where I purchased a ham and cheese bread roll, something I had wanted to eat for a long time - since my previous trip to Hawaii. It was delicious along with a couple of cups of coffee. After breakfast we took a swim, and then it was already time for lunch, and after doing some research, we went to a restaurant called Dat Cajun Guy (there will be a full video of this meal coming soon).
Feeling pretty full, and having no plans for the afternoon, we decided to take the drive over to Kaena Point (also spelled Ka’ena Point), where there’s a hike you can take that will take you to the very western point of the island of Oahu in Hawaii. It’s not really actually much of a hike at all, but more of a steady walk along the old road - that used to be open - but is now closed to vehicles (there are some cars that can get in with permit), but it’s best to just walk. The Kaena Point hike offers some incredible views of the ocean, and I really enjoyed the views once we were at the point. Kaena Point is a Hawaii state park, and the land is protected and preserved for its natural habitat of wildlife including seabirds and Hawaiian monk seals. When we were at Kaena Point we saw both seabirds and Hawaiian monk seals, which were both wonderful to see - an addition to the amazing scenery of the hike already.
Kaena Point Hike (Mokuleia side)
How long does it take: I believe the hike is about 5 miles roundtrip. It took us about 1 hour in each direction, maybe a little less, and we spent about 45 minutes at Kaena Point. So all in all it took us about 3 hours.
Price: It’s free, no entrance fee
Kaena point hike directions (remember this is coming from the Mokuleia side, which is from the north short): For driving directions, keep on driving west on Farrington highway until the road comes to an end at the parking lot. Then once you park the car, just follow the road all the way to the end, and you’ll reach the point.
Tips: It’s a hot and dry hike, so bring a hat, sunscreen, and plenty of water.

Matsumoto's Shave Ice Grand Re-Opening
Founded by Mamoru and Helen Matsumoto as a country grocery store in 1951, Matsumoto's Shave Ice is today an island institution. Over the summer, Matsumoto's expanded into the new Haleiwa Store Lots complex, and closed its original storefront for renovation. That storefront re-opened today, Oct. 3, 2015.

The Garlic Shrimp Truck That Has Taken Over Oahu’s North Shore — Dining on a Dime
All-shrimp food trucks are popular lunch destinations in Oahu's North Shore, but none top the island fame (and proliferation of graffiti) of Giovanni's. Host Lucas Peterson stops by to see what all the fuss is about.

Oahu Travel Tips: 10 Things to Know Before YOU Go
10 things you must know before you travel to Oahu in Hawaii. Oahu is the 3rd largest among the Hawaiian Islands, but the most populated with about 1 million residents. Honolulu, the capital of Hawaii is located in the island of Oahu. Oahu is sometimes known as the “Manhattan of the Pacific.” While Oahu is lined with sandy stunning Beaches, Impressive Mountains, make no mistake, this is a buzzing metropolis, a tropical city. You can drive around the Island in a day, but there’s easily a weeks worth of stuff to do.
2 - Major areas of Oahu
Waikiki
North Shore
Windward Coast
Leeward Coast
3 - Weather
4 - When to go
5 - Beaches
ocean temperature in Oahu ranges from a cool 72 degrees to a warm 81 degrees Fahrenheit (22 – 27 °C)
My favorite is Hanauma Bay and Ko Olina.
Waikiki is packed -- tough to get any sand there. If a beach has “beach park” in the name, it’s usually good for few crowds. I do like to swim in the protected swimming area.
Be careful of coral, and sharp rocks. Stay 6 feet away from turtles
Watch my video on the best beaches in Oahu.
6 - Shopping
Ala Moana
Waikiki main street
Waikiki Royal Hawaiian Center has 150 shops
ABC Stores
Costco
Don Quixote
7- Transportation
Oahu Traffic is Epic -- worse from 3pm-6pm
And even when there isn’t any traffic, it’s slow. 35 MPH Speed limits are common. Be patient. Merging traffic, one car from the left, one car from the right. Flash a shaka to say thanks.
Renting a car? Rent it at the airport for the Cheapest Rates. And use Costco Travel!
Staying in Waikiki? Maybe you don’t need a rental car. Parking is expensive.
Oahu has a pretty good bus system
Uber and Taxis are plentiful
Waikiki trolley, bring your JCB card!
8 - Hotels
Most hotels are in Waikiki
Ko Olina (Aulani)
North Shore (Turtle Bay and a Courtyard)
But they aren’t cheap… decent hotels are around $200 a night, plus high taxes, and resort fees… and parking.
If you're military...active, retired, or reservist, you can stay on base for next to nothing.
9 - Food
Local restaurant chain that I recommend you check out called zippys. They're fairly cheap, pretty tasty, and it's local Hawaiian food. There are locations all over the island but the one that I recommend is in pearl city on kamahmaha highway. It will look like it's a take out only place but there are stairs on the side for you to talk up to the seating area.
Alo Moana Food Court is one of the largest in the US and has seating for 1500.
