Halliggye Fogou
Halliggye Fogou is an Iron Age underground complex on the Trelowarren Estate at Garras, near Helston in Cornwall. The fogou is the largest fogou in Cornwall and is one of the best preserved.
A main passage leads in to a smaller creep which goes nowhere. The second and larger passage can be got to by going left when near the end of the main passage.
The fogou dates from approximately 400 BC. There was a settlement here at one time however the fogou is the only part of the settlement remaining.
A fogou is an underground stone chamber which can only be found in West Cornwall. Similar structures are can be found elsewhere and are known as Souterrains. Most fogous are found in Penwith and this is only one of three fogous in this area, the others being Piskey's Hall Fogou near Constantine and Boden Fogou near Manaccan.
Trelowarren Estate, Cornwall, UK - Unravel Travel TV
Country Estates and their owners come and go, but Trelowarren can point to 1,000 years of recorded history, the last 600 years in the hands of the Vyvyan family. For Sir Ferrers Vyvyan, it remains a work in progress. The estate includes a 1,000 acres of pasture and woodland leading down to the Helford River. Rococo gardens designed by Dionysus Williams (under restoration), the Halliggye Fogou, a mysterious neolithic chamber; and back at the stable yard the New Yard Restaurant, the Cornwall Crafts Association main gallery, the tennis court and a swimming pool.

Royal Navy sailors 'caught performing sex act with eight ball in family pub'
Royal Navy sailors were allegedly caught performing a sex act with an eight ball at a family pub.
A video of the incident was sent to CornwallLive after the newspaper reported ten personnel from RNAS Culdrose were being investigated over the incident at the Red Lion pub in Helston, Cornwall.
Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed they were investigating an indecent act.
The Royal Navy also said it was investigating but could not comment further, CornwallLive reports.
The Daily Mail reported that the ten sailors faced serious disciplinary action over the incident which took place in the pub's pool room on February 24.
It quoted from a Royal Military Police incident report saying: CCTV footage taken within the Red Lion pub in Helston shows a Petty Officer [Identity Redacted] appearing to engage in an indecent act while in the bar lounge and in full view of the public and other Service Personnel (SP), some of whom were filming the incident on their mobile phones.
The incident is known to have been uploaded on to social media ( Instagram ) and been discussed on Facebook . Awaiting a civilian police decision on prosecution.
In the one-minute footage you can hear sport on the TV in the background and the men's colleagues laughing as one attempts to insert an eight ball from the room's pool table into the backside of another.
The man makes several attempts while the second man is bent over with his trousers around his ankles.
Their friends watch and laugh throughout, occasionally covering their mouths in disbelief.
The man who is bent over repeatedly shouts instructions to his mate as his backside rubs against the pub's sofa from which the other man is leaning over him.
The man who is bent over can be heard laughing throughout the video.
The background is easily recognisable to visitors to the pub as an upstairs room.
A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: We have been informed by the Navy police of allegations related to an incident of public indecency.
We will be liaising with them in an investigation.
A Royal Navy spokesman said: An investigation is ongoing and therefore it would be inappropriate to comment further.
A spokesman for the pub has slammed the claims as exaggerated and an attempt to tarnish the reputation of the sailors.

'Estates and their owners come and go, but Trelowarren can point to 1,000 years of recorded history, the last 600 years in the hands of the Vyvyan family. For Sir Ferrers Vyvyan, it remains a work in progress. Trelowarren is living history, not corporate heritage, he says. We want to maintain a traditional working estate that people can share with us.
And there's a lot to share: 1,000 acres of pasture and woodland leading down to the Helford River; Rococo gardens designed by Dionysus Williams (under restoration); the Halliggye Fogou, a mysterious neolithic chamber; and back at the stable yard the superb New Yard Restaurant, the Cornwall Crafts Association main gallery, the tennis court and a swimming pool to cool off in after all that endeavour.'

The Discovery of Manaccanite (Titanium) and where it happened
In 1791 William Gregor discovered a black sand in the stream in the Cornish village of Manaccan. He isolated a new metal from the black sand and called it manaccanite. We now know it by another name!!
