HAMERSLEY PUBLIC GOLF COURSE // the other course in Karrinyup

In August 2019 I took my first visit to Hamersley Public Golf Course, a cracking little track a short stroll away from Lake Karrinyup, host of the ISPS Handa Super 6 European Tour Event. Only 15 mins from the city, I can't believe it took me this long to play it and will certainly be returning.

It's a heck of a lot easier to get on this place than the elite Lake Karrinyup, and you won't be disappointed if you do find yourself on the 'other' course in the area! Great value even at the weekends ($31.50 when I played) and a course that will test every golfer that isn't laser straight (so basically all of us!) even though there are very few hazards aside from the many trees that line all fairways. I counted 4 bunkers - and avoided all of them - and no water which is testament to how a course can still be challenging without loading it with hazards.

The other great thing about this round was I played with one of my followers, Matt Dumble. We often overlook the social element of golf, and a meetup like this is what it is all about!

FUTURE GOLF CLUB AT THE LINKS KENNEDY BAY // True Links golf in WA!

I headed to the fantastic Links Kennedy Bay for an event on the rapidly expanding Future Golf Club WA schedule!

Future Golf Club is the second largest social golf group in Australia and is growing rapidly, with close to 3000 members in total. They aim to make golf accessible to all, and give golfers of all levels the ability to play some of the best courses in the country!

As for the course, if you want to experience the tradition of true links golf there is nowhere better than The Links Kennedy Bay with 18 holes offering choice to golfers of all standards and tastes. It is in one of the best regions for golf in Western Australia & acclaimed as a jewel in the golfing crown.

Acclaimed as one of Western Australia's best golf courses, The Links Kennedy Bay is beautifully undulating and a true links course in the Scottish and Irish traditions.

The course is fully irrigated however dry all year round, with its sandy base is exceptionally fast running and tight. The gently undulating Windsor Green fairways wind through sand dunes amongst western coastal wattle, grevillea, sedges and lilies. The excellent large Bent greens are all one would expect on a true links - firm, fast and true.

Running alongside the vast blue waters of the Indian Ocean, this beautifully manicured course, with its 115 pot style bunkers with revetted faces, is a delight to play from the white tees and nothing short of a challenge both mentally and physically from the black tees.

Opened in 2000 and designed by Michael Coate and the late Roger Mackay, in conjunction with 1991 British Open Champion Ian Baker Finch, this par 72 championship links golf course has been described by many as a true test of your golfing skills.
