Places to see in ( Hampton - UK )
Hampton is a suburban area on the north bank of the River Thames, in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, England, which includes Hampton Court Palace. Hampton is served by two railway stations, including one immediately south of Hampton Court Bridge in East Molesey.
Hampton adjoins Bushy Park on two sides and is west of Hampton Wick and Kingston upon Thames. There are long strips of public riverside in Hampton and the Hampton Heated Open Air Pool is one of the few such swimming pools in Greater London. The riverside, on the reach above Molesey Lock, has residential islands and grand or decorative buildings including Garrick's House and the Temple to Shakespeare; also on the river is the Astoria Houseboat recording studio. Hampton Ferry provides access across the Thames to the main park of Molesey and the Thames Path National Trail.
The most common type of housing in the north of the district is terraced homes; in the south is it semi-detached. At the western edge of London, many workers commute to adjacent counties, or to Central London; education, health and social work, retail, transport and catering businesses are also significant local employers.
The Anglo-Saxon parish of Hampton converted to secular use in the 19th century included present-day Hampton, Hampton Hill, Hampton Wick and hamlet of Hampton Court surrounding Hampton Court Palace which together are called The Hamptons. The combined population of the Hamptons was 37,131 at the 2001 census. The name Hampton may come from the Anglo-Saxon words hamm meaning an enclosure in the bend of a river and ton meaning farmstead or settlement.
The Christian churches in Hampton and Hampton Hill work together as Churches Together Around Hampton. The church buildings are a significant presence in the area many of them being architecturally stand-alone listed buildings in otherwise often quite homogenous 20th century housing estates. The ministers and members provide a range of services for the community.
Garrick's Temple hosts a free Sunday afternoon Shakespeare exhibition (14.00–17.00) from early April to 30 October and a series of summer drama, music and exhibitions. Hampton Youth Project has been an economically and recreationally resourceful youth centre since 1990. Built in a converted coach depot on the Nurserylands Estate it offers a wide programme of activities for those aged 11–19. Parks include borough-sponsored football pitches and tennis courts in the north and west of the district and children's playgrounds there and in Bushy Park and Hampton Village Green in the east and south.
Hampton Station is on the London Waterloo to Shepperton train line. The Library is in a Georgian building on Thames Street with a double blue plaque to two former residents, the singer John Beard and William Ewart MP, the Politician behind the Public Libraries Act 1850.
In keeping with its lack of high rise buildings, the district has no dual carriageways, its main routes the A308 and A312, have in their busiest sections an additional filter or bus lane. Bus routes that serve Hampton are the 111, R68 and 216. The 411 and R70 and 285 serve Hampton Court, Nurserylands and Hampton Hill respectively.
The main station is towards the south-west and by the main parades of shops on either side of the line: Hampton; just north of Hampton Hill is Fulwell railway station; both are on the Shepperton Branch Line. Just south of Hampton Court neighbourhood, clustered about the Tudor, Stuart and Georgian Palace and Gardens is Hampton Court railway station on the Hampton Court Branch Line. Hampton Wick railway station is on the Kingston Loop Line. The London terminus for both lines is London Waterloo.

Hotel Review: Palace Hotel, Buxton, Derbyshire, England - August, 2016
I stayed at the Palace Hotel in Buxton in August 2016. Two of us stayed for one night, bed and breakfast, which cost £89 with Booking.com. The hotel is an old building dating back to 1857, from the exterior it has an impressive gothic facade, inside the lobby and reception are quite spectacular, with marble columns and ornate decorative features.
Being an old building the hotel also has some challenges, and there are many places where paint, plaster, fixtures and fittings simply need replacing.
The hotel currently appears to be owned by Barcelo, although much of the online references to it, and branding at the hotel states Britannia are the owner. It will be a real benefit to the hotel if Barcelo are the new owners, as my previous impressions of Britannia owned properties have been that they lacked investment and were not clean enough. I hope for the sake of this hotel that Britannia are no longer the owner, as Barcelo are the kind of organisation who could transform this entire building to the magnificent state in which it should be in.
Check-in to the hotel was not permissible before 3pm, we had to pay £4.50 to park the car on site overnight, but this was a bit of a rip-off as many people were coming and going to use the leisure club without paying for parking. This practice of charging guests for parking needs to stop.
Staff at the hotel were friendly and very chatty, overall they are a credit to the hotel. However I have to say that they were a little too chatty (e.g. early Monday morning when we were attempting a lie-in, the conversations in the corridor between cleaning and maintenance staff were too loud and went on for too long, although I now know how they all spent their weekends and where they dd their shopping)!
The hotel has a swimming pool, no surprise for a spa town, it is to be expected in a hotel like this. The pool was fairly small, around 15-20 metres in length, but the water was stone cold. 21 degrees due to the boiler being broken. Nevertheless we braved it for half an hour. It is an old pool with very high sides, meaning that the water slops against the side and splashes back, making swimming in it more challenging than in a modern pool.
There was a gym that we didn't use, and even a room with a punch bag in it and free weights.
The bar looked very nice, but we did not use it, just down the hill from the hotel (through the gardens), over the road and to the right is the amazing Buxton Brewery Tap House, once found you will not want to drink beer anywhere else, they had some amazing beers on, and as a bonus there is a Poke Stop there too (yes I am a nerd).
The restaurant was large and impressive, but again needs maintenance to plaster, paint and fixtures in places. We had breakfast there, the buffet was extensive, although things seemed to run out quickly. It was good quality food though.
This film features views of the hotel from the exterior, the gardens, entrance, reception / Lobby, lift / elevator, second floor corridors, a detailed inspection of room 215, the bar, restaurant, breakfast buffet, a function room and swimming pool.
Overall I did enjoy my stay at this hotel, and would consider staying there again, but I do hope that the hotel is refurbished sooner rather than later.

TUDOR ENGLAND VLOG: TOWER OF LONDON & HAMPTON COURT
Hope you all enjoyed watching the Tudor England Vlogs!
It was truly an unforgettable trip & I cannot wait to go again!
The Tower of London was built in 1078 by the order of William the Conqueror, 1st king of England.
Many people were executed at the tower & at Tower Hill,
including Queen Anne Boleyn in 1536, Queen Cathrine Howard in 1542, and The Nine Day Queen Jane Grey in 1554.
Unfortunately, due to work being done, the Chapel Royal
(In which most of the victims are buried) was inaccessible. :(
Hampton Court was one of Henry VIII's main residences & where His son, Edward VI was born.
The paintings, perfomances & history of this place was unbelievable!!

7 - The Cambusnethan House, Scotland.
Over in North Lanarkshire is this gorgeous castle that was completed in 1820 and built for the Lockart family. The entire castle was built to their exact requirements, right down to the family crest which is still evident over the entry into the castle and on every baluster of the staircase. The crest is an image of a lock and a heart, after their surname. There’s a legend that tells the tale of this family’s ancestors having carried the heart of Robert the Bruce, King of Scots, back from the Holy Land. Nobody has occupied this castle since 1984 since its condition has deteriorated so badly, it’s just too dangerous.
6 - Pidhirtsi Castle, Ukraine
Originally built as a leisure home, this ginormous castle belonged to a high-ranking Polish military commander. It was built between 1635 and 1640 and the palace gardens were said to be breath-taking. There are also two churches on the grounds as well. During the early 20th century the palace underwent a massive restoration and the owners converted it into a museum. The Lviv Historical Museum took over the castle and it was eventually given to the Lviv Art Gallery, who are struggling with funds to renovate the castle properly. The cost to repair this building is astronomical, and throw in a few ghosts, and you have a castle that will remain unsellable for many years to come.
5 - Hampton Lillibridge House, Savannah
It’s been called the most haunted house in Savannah; the entire house was moved to its current location by a local restoration expert. During reconstruction, workers witnesses a man dressed all in black staring eerily from a window. Odd noises were reported, and various ghost sightings have been reported by visitors. The house was originally on the market for $2.9-million but now the asking price is a mere $500,000 and it’s yet to be purchased!
4 - Kreischer Mansion, Staten Island
Standing empty on Staten Island is this gorgeous Victorian mansion, and it’s empty because it was the scene of an actual crime and of course, it’s haunted! Ironically, the road that the house is situated on is called Arthur Kill Road, as if that wasn’t enough to steer a potential buyer far away! The home was built during the mid-1800’s and the owner, Balthasar Kreischer, had huge success with brickworks in the area. He built twin mansions for two of his son’s on top of Kreischer Hill but departed earth soon thereafter. After that, one brick factory burnt down to nothing and the blow was so great, that one son ended his everything in the one mansion. The other was destroyed during the Depression. Stories have just stuck around this house and nobody has stayed there for very long. An actual crime took place there in 2005. The caretaker was reportedly paid a great sum of money to carry out a hit, cutting the remains to pieces and burning them in the basement furnace. Suffice to say, nobody wants to buy it and it’s empty to this day.
3 - The Perkins House, West Virginia
Over in Charles Town, this 6-bedroom, 6-bathroom mansion is yours for a song. The house is linked to abolitionist, John Brown as it’s here that he was executed. He was convicted of treason in 1859, and this was said to be a pivotal point in American history. The mansion is worth $1.6 million, but the dotted line is yet to be signed as the spirit of Brown is said to still haunt the property today!
2 - The Allyn Mansion, Wisconsin
This mansion has been standing since 1885 and it belonged to the wealth Allyn family. The owner was found in the parlour, no longer breathing. The mansion has functioned as a nursing home, a furniture store and a bed and breakfast. The owners of the guest house tried to sell the house in 2008, but they took it off the market when they were unable to sell, despite the constant lowering of the price. Rumour has it that the ghost of the original owner still haunts the hallways.
