Meet the Master of Hawaiian Cowboy Music
Hawaii has a rich history of cowboy culture, played to the tune of a slack key guitar. No one embodies this culture more than Leabert Lindsey, a fifth-generation Hawaiian cowboy, or “paniolo.” Dating back to the arrival of Spanish cowboys in the 1800s, the soothing, sweet sounds of a slack key guitar embody the heritage and everyday life of Hawaii’s hardworking herdsmen. For Leabert, there’s nothing better than playing his favorite tunes after a long day’s work. Today, he’s one of the few master players helping to keep this traditional music alive.

Film Description:
Holo Holo Paniolo is a film produced in Hawai'i in 2007 by: Susan Jensen and Paul Singer, whom are masters in their own art.
This film provides the viewer a rare glimpse into the life and land of the paniolo or paniala way of life in Hawai'i. Stories from the past along with in depth interviews from current Hawai'i ranch owners, the paniolo today, experts in cattle ranching, saddle makers, ropers, historical experts, Hawaiian musicians and song along with Kumu hula masters help make this film iconic as they get.
You are sure to enjoy the many ranch and paniolo stories, songs and hula this film offers, as it touches the soul of a life both long ago and today, embark on a rare glimpse into the lifestyle of the Paniolo in Hawai'i most people will never get a chance to see.
Going along for the ride, cameras go deep and up high in altitude into the largest and most well known Hawaiian ranches still in operation today, places like the famous Parker ranch on the big island of Hawai'i.
The history of the Hawaiian paniolo is fascinating in its own right as this film goes well beyond the thoughts of what one could otherwise only imagine such a life could be like. It is my hope that stories and films regarding the life and lifestyles of our ancestors before find their way into each and everyone of our lives and hearts.
Me Ke Aloha,
Boda - KFH
