HD Hanalei Valley Lookout
View of the famous taro fields from the Hanalei Valley Lookout, Princeville, Kauai, HI. May '10.
Encircled by waterfall-draped mountains, the picturesque Hanalei Valley on the north shore of Kaua'i harbors the Hanalei National Wildlife Refuge. The refuge was established under the Endangered Species Act to conserve five endangered water birds that rely on the Hanalei Valley for nesting and feeding habitat: the koloa (Hawaiian duck), the 'alae ke'oke'o (Hawaiian coot), the 'alae'ula (Hawaiian moorhen), the ae'o (Hawaiian stilt), and the nēnē (Hawaiian goose). Forty-five other species of birds (18 of which are introduced species) also use the refuge.

Driving through Hanalei Valley, Kauai
A short clip, just trying to show how neatly the taro fields are laid out in this area, and how the mountains rise straight up out of the fields. This was my favorite part of Kauai.
Okolehau Trail, Hanalei Kauai Hawaii
Okolehau Trail is referred to as The Puffer. It gains 1250 feet in 2.5 miles. The first 2/3 of a mile the Okolehau Trail is really the remains of an old dirt road. You climb, climb, climb. The footing is generally good unless a good rain came through recently. There are 2 major plateau's on the trail. The first nice overlook
is at 2/3 miles next to the tall powerline pole. At the one mile mark look for this unusual tree that I call Woody. Keep climbing another 5 minutes and you reach the first plateau which is flat and has ti plants on it. You have sweeping views of Hanalei Bay, Hanalei Pier (South Pacific), the Kilauea Lighthouse, Princeville, the taro fields you left behind, and Bali Hai. The next .25 of a mile is pretty flat then at the 1.5 mile mark it turns steep again and is far more muddy but the reward is ahead.
At the END of the Okolehau Trail is another plateau and you see everything you did before plus the Hanalei River coming out of the mountain valley and a close up view of all the mountains including Wai'ale'ale. In total you see 1/5 of the entire island!
You will find the Okolehau Trail off the main road from Princeville. Go toward Kee Beach on 560 leaving Princeville. Once you get to the bottom of the hill and cross the first one lane bridge take an immediate left by the taro fields. You will go down the road about ½ a mile to a parking lot across from the start of the trail. There are usually plenty of hiking sticks leaning against the bridge.
Don't forget to stop at the Hanalei Overlook on the way back up the hill to see where you climbed.

Hanalei valley is never changing
A little clip playing with footage. A view of the Hanalei Valley which is in Northern Kauai. The Hanalei River runs through the valley and 60% of Hawaii's taro is grown in its fields.

Kauai Island, Hawaii, USA 4K (UHD)
Kauai Island known also as the Garden Island. The tiny tropical island. This is one of the three Hawaiian islands that I decided to visit. I spent three days there, drove 315 miles by car and visited, incl. the places described below. My hotel was in the Kapaa area. It is geologically the oldest and northernmost island of the main Hawaiian Islands. Some parts of Kauai are only accessible by sea or air. Island is characterized by its wealth of lush, rich lands, including vast tropical rainforests, jaw-dropping mountains and stunning beaches. Part of Kauai’s unique charm is the fact that the island has remained relatively undeveloped.

Sadly, the entire northern coast beyond Hanalei was still closed due to extreme damage to roads, trails, homes, business, and parks caused by record-breaking flooding the last two-springs. We wish all the impacted residents of that area a speedy recovery.

Blue Hawaiian Helicopters - Hanalei Bay, Kauai
Blue Hawaiian Helicopters
A beautiful day at Hanalei Bay on the north shore of Kauai.
THE BLUE HAWAIIAN DIFFERENCE There's simply no argument: Blue Hawaiian is Hawaii's #1 helicopter tour company. Blue Hawaiian's aircraft maintenance technicians have received the FAA's coveted Certificate of Excellence, Diamond Award every year since 1998. No other helicopter tour company in Hawaii has ever received this critical recognition. Blue Hawaiian was honored by the FAA for its record 12th straight year in January, 2009, at a ceremony in Honolulu, and the FAA further honored Blue Hawaiian with the very first Certificate of Excellence, Platinum Award. And Blue Hawaiian is the only helicopter tour company in Hawaii certified by the Department of Defense.
Welcome to the Blue Skies of Hawaii. Blue is the only helicopter tour company serving all four major Hawaiian islands: Oahu, Maui, Kauai, and the Big Island. That means wherever you go in the Islands of Aloha, you know exactly how to get the world's finest aerial tours: just remember the color of the sky.
We don't just operate the best equipment, we help develop it. From the ultra-quiet, spacious, and powerful 21st-century Eco-Star helicopter to the breakthrough Garmin G500H technology, which gives our pilots astonishing three-dimensional synthetic vision terrain awareness in less than optimal weather; from our pioneering of multi-camera in-flight video, to designing vastly improved cockpit air-conditioning—Blue Hawaiian is always at the forefront of leading-edge innovations for your safety, comfort, and enjoyment. Because when it comes to our guests, good enough is never enough.
The finest pilots in the sky. Blue Hawaiian prides itself on hand-picking only the finest and most experienced pilots—the absolute cream of the profession—and every one of them is a State of Hawaii Certified Tour Guide. Blue Hawaiian is also the only helicopter tour company in Hawaii with its own state-of-the-art Flight Simulator, and the only one that puts its pilots through annual factory and FAA recurrent training.
Na Pali Coast Phea Trail (at top) Kauai Hawaii
The drive up Waimea Canyon takes you to the top of the famous Na Pali Coast in Kaua'i, Hawai'i. The video/pictures does not do the view justice!!
Na Pali Coast
Recorded January 17, 2004. The Na Pali coast extends southwest starting at Keʻe Beach extending all the way to Polihale State Park on the Hawaiian Island of Kauai. The pali, or cliffs, rise as high as 4,000 feet above the Pacific Ocean. Although inaccessible to automobiles, this coast can be enjoyed by hiking, boating or from a helicopter. This video begins on the ground at Kalalau Lookout. This glorious lookout provides a panoramic view of the Kalalau Valley, the largest valley on Na Pali. The video then shifts to the helicopter for a birds eye view of the area.
