BEST 7! / Hot spots in Hanam city, KOREA / Cinematic video
(Namugoawon)
(Union Tower)
(HANAM museum of history)
(Gwangju hyanggyo)
(Lake park)
(ShinJang Market)
(Misari Motor Boat Race track)

[Secret Korea - Seoul] Ep. 23 Seongbuk-dong / YTN (Yes! Top News)
In Seoul, there is a place you can find
the essence of traditional Korean culture.
Being filled with history
and culture at every corner,
the whole neighborhood will seem
like at museum in Seongbuk-dong.
The Korea Furniture Museum is located
in Seongbuk-dong at the foot of Bugak Mountain.
Once you enter, it will feel like
going back to the Joseon era
as all the buildings in this
special museum are 'Hanok'.
The 'Hanok', which are made similar to the ancient
palaces and houses, shows the dignity of tradition.
Just like the elegance of the exterior 'Hanok',
the furniture on display exude the beauty of Korean tradition.
Let's learn about the wood grains and the antique furniture
that still remain intact from an expert commentator.
The 'Dwiju' is a chest that was used to store grains.
The chest has been built sturdy like the 'Hanok'
to withstand weight and prevent moisture build-up.
Full of the 'Hanok' atmosphere,
the Korea Furniture Museum that radiates
the housing culture of Korea
with its simple furniture should not be missed.
If you walk 500m from the Korea Furniture Museum,
you will come upon another unique location.
Housing a collection of stone artifacts found
throughout Korea is the Korean Stone Art Museum.
As the patron saint of graves
and protector of villages,
these cute 'Dongja' statues were
also known to listen to your wishes.
Both countries will definitely
prosper like the wish, right?
In the outdoor exhibition,
you can see large Buddha statues
and sculptures that embraces the life of Korean ancestors,
which is brimming with the basic human desire to live
a long, healthy, comfortable, and happy life.
The quiet neighborhood of Seongbuk-dong
overlooks the city of Seoul.
As it is full of cultural treasures and museums,
why not experience traditional Korean culture
and art in a special way by visiting this area?

CASE FILE #6: KOREA - HOUSE ON THE HILL 1/3
Yeongdeok, South Korea, is famous for its local specialty, the snow crab. But it is just as well-known for an abandoned house overlooking the ocean, where ghosts are rumored to lie in wait. Investigating further, the house turns out not to be a home but a failed restaurant. Adding to the confusion are conflicting tales of the house being occupied, alternatively, by the spirits of: a young girl who committed suicide, dead students... and even a giant serpent?

The Leeum, Samsung Museum of Art is a museum in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, South Korea, run by the Samsung Foundation of Culture.[1] It comprises two parts that house traditional Korean art and contemporary art. Museum 1 is designed by Swiss architect Mario Botta and Museum 2 is by French architect Jean Nouvel and Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas designed the Samsung Child Education & Culture Center.
Museum 1, designed by Mario Botta, houses a collection of traditional Korean art, of which 36 pieces are designated national treasures. Included in the collection are landscapes and folk paintings, traditional ceramics and porcelain, such as Celadon and Buncheong, a bluish-green traditional Korean stoneware. As well as 14th century daggers, crowns, earrings and ornaments; and Buddhist art, sculptures, paintings and manuscripts.[3]
Two large volumes, a reverse cone and a simple hexahedral shape, form Museum 1. Mario Botta utilized terra cotta bricks on the building’s façade which creates not only a strong presence on the grounds but also creates a chameleon like façade which changes colors, and plays with shadows, with the changing intensity and angle of sunlight. The shapes and materials create a modern interpretation of Seoul’s history as a walled city and reference the traditional ceramic art inside.[4]
The interior of Museum 1 includes a lobby, rotunda, and exhibition spaces. The core of the Leeum Museum is this basement lobby created by the reverse cone penetrating the ground. Museum 2 and the Samsung Child Education & Culture Center are all connected here. Museum goers begin and end their tours in this area. Above the lobby is the white walled rotunda. Spiraling down like a helix, the rotunda delivers natural light into the basement lobby and exhibition spaces. The exhibition spaces in Museum 1 are hexahedral. Visitors begin at the top and walk down visiting each of the four floors which house ceramics, swords, jewelry and other traditional Korean artifacts.[4]
Museum 2, designed by Jean Nouvel, features modern and contemporary art from both Korean and foreign artists.[5] Many famous artists such as Damien Hirst, Warhol, Rothko, Yves Klein and Donald Judd have permanent exhibition spaces.[6] The basement levels of the museum face the sunken garden and gabion walls. The gabion cages are composed of iron and filled with rocks unearthed during the construction process. The sunken garden includes birch trees and ferns.[7][8][9]
Seemingly floating in place, Nouvel’s creation personifies modern art’s constant growth, evolution, and challenge/inquisition of society. Nouvel used extra white glass and rusted stainless-steel, the first to do so, to create the exhibition boxes. Many tests were performed before the current black-filmed stainless-steel could be created. The freely arranged exhibition boxes penetrate the glass skin and allow for a more controlled exhibition space. Light and other factors can be readily controlled for each box. The main exhibition hall in Museum 2 is a completely open space without any supporting posts thanks to post-tension building techniques.[7]
Rem Koolhaas was charged with designing the Samsung Child Education & Culture Center as well as the museum’s master plan. The main entrance into the lobby of Museum 1 is through Koolhaas’s glass structure. As they enter the museum, visitors follow along on a wooden ramp and pass under a pavilion, demarcating the threshold. He used pilotis which not only lighten the structure but also provide a view of the surrounding buildings and site. The skin of the three story outer building is composed of steel and glass. Inside, a mixing chamber was created between the glass wall and Black box and the placement of lighting, piloti and ramps.[10] The Black concrete box holds different exhibits.[11]
Located over the parking garage, the Sculpture Garden showcases sculptural exhibits. The garden consists of a long rectangular strip of gravel and vegetation and the wood deck which frames it. Recently two of Louise Bourgeois’s Maman sculptures were featured in the Sculpture Garden.

Heart to Heart-How did you come to collaborate with so many artists

The Past and Future Created through Strands of Thread- Thread Artist Son In-suk
In anticipation of the 130th anniversary of French-Korean diplomacy in 2016, this coming year both countries will begin a diverse exchange between French and Korean cultural arts. In October of 2015, the Guimet Museum of Asian Art in Paris will host an exhibit on Korean embroidery artist Son In Sook, marking the first time the museum has exhibited a living artist in its 125-year history.
For the past 40 years Son In Sook has been creating works that emphasize the various possibilities of Korean embroidery through her creative use of embroidery materials and techniques. In particular she is known for balancing between Eastern and Western sensibilities in her embroidery work, and in doing so forging a new genre of embroidery called ‘thread art.’ She has incorporated her thread art into 21 different contexts, including woodcrafts and wood furniture, cloth wraps, accessories, folding screens, and many more, collaborating with artisans of traditional Korean crafts for each of these projects in order to create works that embody the soul of Korean culture.
This week on Heart to Heart, we meet with Son In Sook, an artist who uses needle and thread to create limitless worlds through her art.

Travel Story Ep14 Korea, the Country of Descendants of Independence Activist from Cuba
Korea, the Country of Descendants of Independence Activist from Cuba
Azaria Lim was the first student from Cuba to study in Korea. She is a fourth-generation Korean-Cuban.
Korea and Cuba do not have diplomatic ties yet, but Azaria was able to come to Korea with the help of her late great-grandfather, Lim Cheon-taek, who made large contributions to helping Korea achieve national independence. During Japanese colonization of Korea, Lim Cheon-taek lived in hardship with his single mother on a henequen farm in Mexico. He did everything he could to help Koreans in Cuba protect their national identity.
He established a Korean school and taught the Korean language and culture to second-generation Korean-Cubans. Lim Cheon-taek also raised funds for the Korean interim government based in Shanghai, China. His final wish was to visit his homeland before death, but he only returned to Korea seven years after he passed away.
He was buried at the National Cemetery in recognition of his contributions to Korea's independence, and now his granddaughter is pursuing her dreams by studying in Korea.
What does Korea look like in the eyes of an independence activist's descendant? Join us to learn more about the dreams and aspirations of this young woman in a foreign country and the traces of Korea's independence movement

Gwacheon National Science Museum
On this Vlog:
We visited the Gwacheon National Science Museum located in South Korea this facility opened in 2008 and it has five exhibition centers the basic science center, high tech center, natural history center, children's experience center, and traditional science center. There is also a planetarium which we did not have time to do, an observatory, and an outdoor exhibition filled with dinosaurs as well as an insect ecosystem. Fore sure we will be back, this museum has everything and according to their page it is one of the leading institutions world wide. The twins my husband and I had a really good time I believe we were there for five hours and did not finish the entire national museum. It is a must visit!
