This is the sixth video of a trip thru northern Japan. From Hakodate we went by train to Shin-Hanamaki to visit the Miyazawa Kenji museum (no pictures from inside the museum). Then we went to Ozawa onsen (hot springs). Japan is amazing.

Iwate Swan 3: Exploring Hanamaki
In this episode, I take some time to explore around my new stomping grounds of Hanamaki City in Iwate prefecture. Join me as I explore the streets and visit a 100 yen store and Mos Burger, as well as tell stories about my time as a foreign resident in this rural Japanese community. 宮沢賢治の世界体感 県自然博物館企画展
県自然博物館の開館25周年を記念する企画展「宮沢賢治と自然の世界 石・星・生命（いのち）をめぐる旅」が、坂東市大崎の同館で開かれている。賢治が生前に発刊した２冊の著書「春と修羅」「注文の多い料理店」の初版本をはじめ、自ら採集した岩石「蛇灰岩（じゃかいがん）」など約３７３点を展示。賢治の文学作品に登場する数多くの岩石や鉱物、植物、動物、天文を展示解説するだけでなく、実物の標本を見ることができ、多くの親子連れでにぎわっている。来年２月２日まで。
宮沢賢治の作品中には、トラやウマなど１３０種類以上の動物が登場するほか、約１００種類の鉱物、約60種類の岩石などが出てくる。植物や空の色を蛋白石（オパール）、天河石（微斜長石）、トルコ石、孔雀石などの鉱物を用いて表現することもあり、同展では、これらの鉱物や化石などをズラリと展示している。
また、美しい夏の夜空を展示室に再現。代表作の一つ「銀河鉄道の夜」のモチーフとなった星座や星を楽しく学びながら、物語の主人公になった気分で記念撮影ができるコーナーを設けた。同館敷地内には、賢治が設計した花壇「Ｔｅａｒｆｕｌ ｅｙｅ（涙ぐむ眼）」を再現するなど、館内外で〝童話の世界〟を体感できる。
横山一己館長は「宮沢賢治の作品と彼が愛した自然に広く興味を持ってほしい。大人の方に来てほしい」と話している。

Iwate Swan 17: Marukan Department Store
So the Christms shopping continues in this episode where I am on the hunt for some Christmas Cards. The Marukan Department store in Hanamaki is pretty famous as it is one of the older shopping centers in the city. In the past 10 years newer places like the Ito Yokado featured earlier in the city have sprung up, but I figured it would be fun to visit this relic of Hanamaki's shopping past.
From what I am told, now the main attraction of going to Marukan is actually for the restaurant that is there. It is really famous for some increidlbe ice cream that you eat with chop sticks! It was really a wild experience to eat ice cream in such a manner, and I hope you guys enjoy all of the goodies in this episode. See you next week for another adventure!

Iwate Swan 5: Toys in Kitakami
Hey gang, Iwate Swan is back for another week of adventures. This time, I ventured out to Kitakami which is the second largest city in Iwate (just behind Morioka in population, with Hanamaki in third place). My mission was to find the Toys R Us, in which there might be one or two in the whole of Iwate. Would some directions from local school girls help me or lead me in the wrong direction? Watch and find out! Next week is going to be the much anticipated house tour video where I show off my Japanese house and talk a bit about my job and my life in general. See you next time!

ここのラーメンはそうじゃないね。
子供たちだけで食べに行けるお店だ。
学校帰りに寄るよね。
土曜の午後から部活が無い時なんか、みんなでねぇ。
だって安いんだもん。
あたしの頃は、ラーメンが180円じゃなかったかなぁ。
それしか食べられなかったよねぇ。
今では、特性ラーメンも食べられるようになったわ。
しかも、やっすいわぁ、って言えるし。
ラーメンフォークも久しぶりに使ってみました。
箸のほうが食べやすいかなぁ、あたしは。

Nagoya has many famous food.
Miso stew udon, Hitsumabushi, Ankake sauce spaghetti ,and so on .
But they are an adult food.
A child is taken to an adult and can eat.
However, this ramen noodles can go to eat only by children.
Because it is cheap and delicious.
Students in Nagoya, stop by to eat here after school.

This is the second of a number of videos of a trip thru northern Japan. On the second day we visited Matsushima and Kakunodate. Matsushima is an area at the coast with around 260 small islands.
