Harry Potter fans, all aboard the SL Ginga to Kamaishi!! Dave Nguyen continues his Tohoku railway rampage, this time jumping aboard the Steam Locomotive Ginga (Milky Way) - a restored C58 239 locomotive inspired by Kenji Miyazawa's 'Night on the Galactic Railroad'.
This train runs between Miyazawa's hometown of Hanamaki and the beautiful coastal town of Kamaishi (Visit Kamaishi, Visit Japan) in Iwate Prefecture. It also makes a stop at Tono, home of the mysterious water-dwelling and cucumber-eating Kappa (Japanese folklore creature).
Each of the carriages will take you back in time with early twentieth century decor, stained glass windows and soft lighting. It is also the first train in Japan with its very own planetarium!!
