'I'm here because I want to be among the people': Trump continues his assault on 'fake' news with campaign rally in Florida after First Lady Melania led the crowd in The Lord's Prayer.
Donald Trump once again doubled down on the media, telling a cheering crowd in Florida: ‘I want to speak to you without the filter of the fake news.’
The president was introduced on stage in Melbourne by Melania Trump, who led The Lord’s Prayer after she and her husband stepped off Air Force One Saturday afternoon.
The First Lady, after embracing the president, promised to ‘stay true to myself and be truthful to you’ and told the audience, ‘my husband is creating a country of great safety and prosperity’.
The 'Make America Great Again Rally' was almost identical in rhetoric to his 2016 campiagn events that focused on bringing back jobs and increasing national security. Unsuprisingly, this rally had a heavier focus on bashing press coverage than before.
At 5.43pm ET Trump stepped off of Air Force One in Melbourne where 'Proud to be an American' blared over the loudspeakers.
He shook hands with some of his supporters, most of who were holding 'Trump/Pence' signs or wearing the famous 'Make American Great Again' hats.
First Lady Melania, dressed in a $2,200 Alexander McQueen dress and $595 Christian Louboutin pointed heels, kicked off the campaign rally with The Lord's Prayer.
'The America we envisioned is one that works for all Americans,' said the First Lady.
'I will always be true to myself and be truthful to you no matter what the opposition is saying,' she continued in a slight dig at the media.
President Trump voiced his surprised that his wife said The Lord's Prayer but said he thought it was a lovely gesture.
'This was a truly great movement and I want to be here with you and I will always be with you. I promise you that,' he said.
'I want to speak to you without the filter of the fake news,' Trump said to a mixture of cheers and boos against the press.
He angrily elaborated on this point, a continuation of his most recent press conference during which he bashed the media.

There are so many things to do in Jacksonville Florida and we did our best to to squish it all in. We started with Adlib Luxury Tours, Top to Bottom tour of Jacksonville Fla. It's a great way to learn all about Jacksonville, Florida. We went to the top of the Bank of America building for a bird's eye view of the city and then went underground to the vaults that the banks in Jacksonville Florida once used to transport money. Next we visited the MOSH, the Museum of Science and History. It is one of the great family things to do in Jacksonville, Fl. We loved kayaking with Kayak Amelia, riding our bikes along the trails of Talbot Island State Park, and hiking through the ecosystems at the Tree Hill Nature Center where Jacksonville, Florida schools learn about nature. We swam and collected shells and shark's teeth at Boneyard and Mickler Beaches. The Jacksonville Florida beaches lived up to their famous reputations. We hit the slides at Adventure Landing, one of the largest water parks in Jacksonville, Florida, and even rode Crazy Fish's Dolphin Limo to get up close to the dolphins.

Hidden Figures: Augusta Savage #BlackHERstoryMonth 18/28
Augusta Savage was a Black American sculptor and teacher who worked for equal rights for Black Americans in the arts. Born Augusta Fells in Green Cove Springs, Florida on February 29, 1892, Augusta began making figures as a child, mostly small animals out of the natural red clay of her hometown. In 1915, she married James Savage; she kept the name of Savage throughout her life.
Savage continued to model clay, and in 1919 was granted a booth at the Palm Beach County Fair where she was awarded a $25 prize and ribbon for most original exhibit. Following this success, she sought commissions for work in Jacksonville, Florida, before departing for New York City in 1921. She was admitted to the Cooper Union in New York City in October 1921, selected before 142 other men on the waiting list. She completed the four-year degree course in three years.
After completing studies at Cooper Union, Savage worked in Manhattan steam laundries to support herself and her family. During this time she obtained her first commission for a bust of W. E. B. Du Bois for the Harlem Library. Her outstanding sculpture brought more commissions. Knowledge of her talent and financial struggles became widespread in the Black American community; fundraising parties were held in Harlem and Greenwich Village, and Black American women's groups and teachers all sent her money for studies abroad. In 1929, Savage enrolled and attended the Académie de la Grande Chaumière, a leading Paris art school. She exhibited and won awards in two Paris Salons and one Exposition. She toured France, Belgium, and Germany, researching sculpture in cathedrals and museums.
Savage returned to the United States in 1931, but the Great Depression had almost stopped art sales. She pushed on, and in 1934 became the first Black American artist to be elected to the National Association of Women Painters and Sculptors. She then launched the Savage Studio of Arts and Crafts, located in a basement on West 143rd Street in Harlem. Her many young students included the future nationally-known artists Jacob Lawrence, Norman Lewis, and Gwendolyn Knight. Her school evolved into the Harlem Community Art Center.
Savage opened two galleries whose shows were well attended and well reviewed, but few sales resulted and the galleries closed. Deeply depressed by the financial struggle, in the 1940s Savage moved to a farmhouse in rural upstate New York. While there, she taught art to children and wrote children's stories, cultivated a garden, and sold pigeons, chickens, and eggs.
Savage died of cancer on March 26, 1962, in New York City. In 2001 her home and studio in New York were listed on the New York State and National Register of Historic Places. In 2008 she was inducted to the Florida Artist Hall of Fame. The papers of Augusta Savage are available at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture at New York Public Library.
