Khagrachari District Information

Khagrachari is a district in Bangladesh. It is under Chittagong Division. Locally it is known as “Chengmi” and also known as Phalang Htaung or the Mong Circle. It is a hilly district in Bangladesh. It is 112 km from Chittagong. It is also a part of Chittagong Hill Tracts It is one of the most magnificent places for tourist with hills, forest, waterfalls, and aborigine. Three rivers flow on the through the district. These are Chengi, Kasalong and Maini and Chengi. Main attraction is the tribal culture, green tree, hilly road and people also. Private and government rest house, hotels, motels, and resorts are available. Majority people are Marma and Chakma. Local primary transportation is Chader Gari.
There are 8 Upazilas under this district. They are Dighinala, Khagrachhari, Lakshmichhari, Mahalchhari, Manikchhari, Matiranga, Panchhari and Ramgarh. It is bounded by the Indian State of Tripura on the north, Rangamati and Chittagong districts on the south, Rangamati on the east, Chittagong and the Indian State of Tripura on the west. We visited the place during our Sajek tour. After viewing Sajek, Lots of fresh air and a cup of raw tea and you can enjoy the view by just sitting down and watch surroundings. green and peace coexists all around. if you expect the hanging bridge of Khagrachari to be one with a mid pillar like that one of Rangamati, you are certainly wrong. the hanging bridge in the district park of Khagrachari is a real beauty but beware if you have problems with vertigo.

The hanging bridge of Khagrachhari is under district authority management. It's a bridge over a lake. have to climb up the hill to reach the bridge. There are two entries, one side has stairs to climb up, but the other side doesn't. There are a watchtower and a playground for children, but the place is not so clean. There are food stalls to buy snacks and drinks. You can enjoy boating on the lake and sunset from the hilltop.

This is one of the major tourist spots for both the locals and the visitors alike. It is located inside the horticulture park of Khagrachari district run by hill district administrative authority. It is five minutes walk from the main city gate or from the zero miles which are also known as the center point of the district. Local people often get this place crowded for picnic and family occasions as such.

Risang Waterfall is a charming travelling place of Khagrachari. It is one of the most beautiful water fall in Bangladesh. It is in Matirangga union of Khagrachari District. Hanging Bridge: Hanging Bridge(Jhulonto Bridge in Bengali)is the landmark icon of Rangamati. It's a popular tourist spot and a must go destination.


If you don’t visit Rangamati you will not discover a big portion of natural beauties of Bangladesh. From Chittagong a 77 km. road amidst green fields and winding hills will take you to Rangamati. It is also connected by waterway from Kaptai.
[Hanging Bride, Rangamati] This is the only place to visit through out the year. Rangamati expresses her full beauty in rainy season. Trees becoming greener, waterfalls are in full tide, the river Karnaphuli in her full wave in this season. If you already visited Rangamati in winter, we advice to go there again in monsoon; you will feel the difference of nature yourself.


Parjatan holiday complex is the best place to stay in Rangamati. There are other hotels in Rangamati where you can stay. Boating is the prime attraction in Rangamati. You can go to Kaptai and also by Karnaphuli River you can go deep in side the hill areas where on the way you will find lots of natural waterfalls. If you wish you can take shower in the waterfall or you can swim in the river. By boat you can visit the tribal villages, King Chakma's (tribal) Palace that is called Chakma Rajbari, Rajbonbihar pagoda, Tribal museum etc. You can also enjoy the tribal handmaid crafts if you go for shopping in the local market.

Hanging Bridge (Jhulonto Shetu) - The Symbol of Rangamati District ✓

Hanging Bridge, the local name is Jhulonto Shetu of Rangamati is the main attraction of Rangamati town. Rangamati is one of the best tourist place of Chittagong division in Bangladesh. It is called the hilly district.

Normally nobody misses this amazing bridge at Rangamati. This 335 feet long bridge is located at the end point of the town on Kaptai Lake. This is called the 'Symbol of Rangamati'. This charming and beautiful hanging bridge connect two separate hills. At the time of crossing the bridge you'll feel a slight shaking and it gives a different feelings. By standing here you can enjoy the Kaptai Lake view. You are bound to be impressed by the beauty of Kaptai Lake. On the opposite side of the lake, you'll find a tribal village. In addition, there are so much places and instruments to pass your time. A auditorium, park, picnic spot, speed boats and other local vessels are also available there.

You can go there by bus easily. From Dhaka, there are some good direct bus services.

This huge cave hidden among mysterious forests is a beautiful sight to see. Hill also offers visitors a beautiful view over Khagrachhari. Sapchari waterfall is situated in Khagrachari Hill district and about 115 km north from Chittagong town.

The waterfall is near to the sapchari village and is emerged out Alutila Hill Range situated by the Chengi River. If you are a tourist you have so many spots to visit. You can go Alotila(mysterious cave), Risang falls, dhiginala, marissa etc. there are so many places to explore. The biggest fall which is called risang had been identified last year 2008 and so many falls are on waiting to identify. The beauty of Risang fountain is really amazing.Water falls from about 60 foot high and falls at a mild slope of rock surface of another hill. Don't miss this view.
The lighthouse, the Buddhist temple and the Watchtower also worth exploring. Other notable attractions are Deeghi of the (former) King of Tripura, Guimara Forest, Mogh Chief Rajbari, Ramgarh Tea Garden, Sharthok Ejamno memorial and Matai Pukhiri Lake. If you are energetic enough and like adventure then you can go to Marishhwa.It is near to the Indian border and rich in natural beauty. The whole destination of Marishhawa is embellished with hills after hills, trees after trees.
The natural beauty of Marishhwa is breath taking. .You can also visit Panchori. It is a sacred place and meditation centre for the Buddist who live here. . There is a huge monument of Buddho in Panchori. It's about 40 foot high.Panchori is a good place for traveling for its natural beauty. All the tourist spots of the district are crowded all year round. One such spot is Horticulture Park. Which is also known to many as Zilla Parishad Park.
Beside the entrance to Khagrachari city, the situation park is now one of the tourist attractions. As well as other tourist spots in the district, there is a growing crowd of tourists visiting the natural beauty park, including lakes, mountains and hanging bridges. Tourists come with their families to relieve the exhaustion of civic life.

With about 22 acres of land on two hills, the park is now a popular spot in the district. Inside the park there are artificial lakes, profit points, kids zones, hanging bridges, boating facilities at the lake. The entire park has been modernized keeping in mind the tourists. Unlike the day, the night scene.
