Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! SUMMARY
=======
Hangzhou (Mandarin: [xǎŋ.ʈʂóu] (listen); local dialect: /ɦɑŋ tseɪ/) formerly romanized as Hangchow, is the capital and most populous city of Zhejiang Province in East China. It sits at the head of Hangzhou Bay, which separates Shanghai and Ningbo. Hangzhou grew to prominence as the southern terminus of the Grand Canal and has been one of the most renowned and prosperous cities in China for much of the last millennium. The city's West Lake, a UNESCO World Heritage site immediately west of the city, is among its best-known attractions. Hangzhou is also considered a World City with a Beta+ classification according to GaWC..
Hangzhou is classified as a sub-provincial city and forms the core of the Hangzhou metropolitan area, the fourth-largest in China. During the 2010 Chinese census, the metropolitan area held 21.102 million people over an area of 34,585 km2 (13,353 sq mi). Hangzhou prefecture had a registered population of 9,018,000 in 2015.In September 2015, Hangzhou was awarded the 2022 Asian Games. It will be the third Chinese city to play host to the Asian Games after Beijing 1990 and Guangzhou 2010. Suzhou Boat Boxing
Sūzhōu Chuán Quán / Suzhou area Boat Boxing
Chuan Quan Boat Boxing is a name used for many of the local folk martial arts practiced in the waterfront villages of the Yangtze River Delta, the Zhoushan Archepeligo at it's mouth, and adjacent coastal areas of Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces. This entire region is dominated by water, the entire Yangtze delta area is covered in marshes, lakes, rivers, and streams, all the way to the sea.
However most of these (Boat Boxing) styles have no relationship with the others aside from having been practiced by people who spent much of their time on boats.
Suzhou is often called the Venice of China because of it's beautiful scenery, ancient buildings, many artisans, but mostly because of it's canals. Located on the edge of Lake Tai (Taihu), it is over 2500 years old and has long been a very important city for trade. Suzhou is near the center of China's silk producing region as well as being one of the major tea producing areas. Meaning that huge amounts of silk, tea and other goods were constantly being brought in and out of the area and in this area all transportation is by boat. Suzhou is also a very important cultural center known for it's scholars, poets, and artisans, as well as being famed for it's beauty. This means that in Suzhou more than in other places of the delta region there was always a constant influx of new idea from all over China, so we can expect the arts of Suzhou to have a much wider range of influences.
Most people are not aware that there are many kinds of boat boxing and equate the term with Wenzhou Boat Boxing which became well known after a documentary a few years ago which tried to link Wenzhou Boat Boxing with Karate based not much besides similarity of appearance. This documentary is easy to find and has already been uploaded to youtube many times, just look up Wenzhou Boat Boxing.
I have previously put up video of several other kinds of boat boxing if you search you will find.
