Happisburgh is a village and civil parish in the English county of Norfolk. The village is on the coast, to the east of a north-south road, the B1159 from Bacton on the coast to Stalham. It is a nucleated village. The nearest substantial town is North Walsham 6 miles to the west.Happisburgh became a site of national archaeological importance in 2010 when flint tools over 800,000 years old were unearthed. This is the oldest evidence of human occupation anywhere in the UK. In May 2013, a series of early human footprints were discovered on the beach at the site, providing direct evidence of early human activity at the site.The civil parish shrank by over 0.2 km² in the 20th century by the erosion of its beaches and low cliffs. Groynes were constructed along the shore to try to stop the erosion. In the 2001 census, before the separation of Walcott parish to the north-west, the parish had a population of 1,372 in 607 households. For the purposes of local government, the parish is in the district of North Norfolk.

England Coast Path, Happisburgh to Mundesley, Thur 8 Aug 19

Because the beach at Bacton was having sand added, it was not available for the ECP walk. However, I did manage to get right up to the terminal, then followed the road, and joined the diversion route to Mundesley. I walked down the beach as far as possible so that I could then walk along the ECP proper into Mundesley.

Fishing One of THE BEST BEACHES in the UK!

In this Totally Awesome episode Graeme braves the traffic of the M25 and heads 3 hours down to Kent, to fish Dungeness beach. He had Cod in mind, but overnight the wind dropped, the sea went flat, the water cleared...everything you don't want for shore Cod....but he persevered and ended up getting amongst some fish. That's dedication for you! Hope you enjoy the episode.

Inspired by a walk along the Norfolk Coast

20 minutes away from where I live is Happisburgh, an area of the UK coastline that is always in the news for its alarming rate of erosion, with houses falling over the edge and cliffs crumbling daily. After a bit of a rubbish week, with a friend passing and my website being hacked I decided to go for a nice walk with my dog and the camera.
Shooting a variety of images on what looked like it would be a great sunset, soon fizzled out into a bland one. But the walk was lovely and getting my feet soaked was even nicer

Happisburgh has been adandoned by the Government as it would cost too much to defend against coastal erosion. I decided to go down to the beach for a couple of hours before the sea takes more of the village this winter.
