Barcelona & 3 wifi tips for travellers
Barcelona & Wifi. You gotta have. Where you’re staying, cafés, portable Wifi hotspots & the BCN FREE Wifi system. Let's talk.
For the most part, the Wifi where you are staying will get you through. Hotels are good about having internet. Most Air B&B’s will have it though I would ask (also ask about A/C in the summer!). Barcelona & Spain are modern places and the internet is everywhere in buildings. I’m typing this using the Wifi in the lounge of a big business where I have a meeting.
The second thing is that many cafés have Wifi, with varying degree of good usage. The rule is that if you see people sitting in a café with their laptops, there is probably good Wifi. You usually have to buy something.
Except. I have found that some of the chain café stores around town don’t notice if you buy something or not. I’m thinking of Starbucks and a local chain call Sandwiches. They are usually busy and the wait staff is probably happy to NOT have to deal with another picky customer. I’ve sat in the back of these places and used the Wifi for hours.
Next, the city of Barcelona has set up Wifi hotspots around town. Here is a map of their locations:
A map of the Barcelona WIFI system
For the moment, the reviews are mixed. I’ve tried to use them and used one in my neighbourhood without a lot of success. I’ve had friends who say it is slow for them also. I’ve read reviews that say the contrary and that these Wifi spots provide 250kb/s.
For me for the moment, it seems more like a novelty than something I can depend on. Give it a try and let me know.
Last, there are portable wireless hotspot DEVICES. Full disclosure. I’ve never actually used these devices but there are plenty on the market. Amazon sells them. Other companies offer a pay-as-you-go-rental type agreement. Their device gets shipped to you at your home and you carry it with you as you travel. I am imaging digital nomads who have a strong need for a powerful daily connection EVERYWHERE you travel. Again, give it a try and let me know.
Overall, I suggest you use the internet in the place you are staying and stop in for the occasional coffee for your heavy internet needs. You’re here to see the city not your screen.
Have a fantastic stay!

Pham Ngu Lao nightlife is also one of Ho Chi Minh’s finest, with throngs of street vendors, bia hoi stalls, lively bars, and downtown clubs filling up the lively scene. Interesting nightlife entertainment spots include The View Rooftop Bar, Seventeen Saloon, Go 2 and Crazy Buffalo Nightclub as well as many smaller pubs that are known for their cheap drinks and happy hour promos. It’s also common around here to meet friendly expats who are more than happy to share a few tips about travelling in and beyond Vietnam. If you want to immerse yourself in the local culture, we highly suggest getting up early and visit the parks within the area. It is interesting to see (and even to join in on) the elders participating in Tai Chi-like exercise sessions. Another must-do is heading to the morning markets such as Ben Tanh Market, where local vendors sell a wide array of fresh produce, household supplies, and Vietnamese street food at attractive prices. As Pham Ngu Lao is not such a large area, it’s the perfect place to explore on foot - the best time to do this is in the morning and late afternoon as the weather can be rather scorching at the height of the day. If you’re feeling adventurous, there are also travel agencies that can help arrange for day trips within the city centre and beyond...

Explore mountain biking paths in Berguedà and trek around the Cadí Moixeró Natural Park. Listen to the gentle crunch of snow shoes along the white paths of the Aigüestortes and Estany de Sant Maurici National Park, and enjoy the sunset in the Val d’Aran mountains. Savour that happy feeling when you take off your ski boots and sit down in a small restaurant to enjoy a plate of meats, cheese and good wine. And don't forget what you can also enjoy in the city: the Modernism of Sant Pau Recinte Modernista or the salt and sand on the Barceloneta beach. If you don't believe me, come and have a look for yourself. You'll see that from the Mediterranean to the Pyrenees, this is Barcelona!
CA:

CHOOSE TO BE HAPPY - BIKING TOURING, SENEGAL
