St Patrick's Day unites Irish regiments 18.03.13
St Patrick's Day meant it was a very special weekend for the Army's Irish Regiments.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended a St Patrick's Day military parade in Aldershot.
The Royal couple presented sprigs of shamrock to more than 200 Irish Guards - not forgetting their new mascot, a seven-month-old Irish wolfhound who was carrying out his first public engagement.
The Duchess, who's five months pregnant also revealed to one guardsman that she hoped her baby would be a boy - whilst Prince William, who's Colonel of the Regiment, hopes for a girl.
Meanwhile 8,000 miles away, Number 4 Company of the Irish Guards made sure they didn't miss out in the Falklands.
Commander British Forces South Atlantic Islands, Brigadier Bill Aldridge, presented shamrocks to them at the Mount Pleasant Complex.
The majority of the troops, who are still arriving on the Falkland Islands, got to the islands just in time to celebrate St Patrick's Day. For the next two months, the Irish Guards will act as the Roulement Infantry Company
And in Germany, the Queen's Royal Hussars spent St Patrick's Day celebrating in a rather unusual way with a bed race challenge.
Teams had to make their own bed on wheels and race their Squadron Commander around Athlone Barracks in Sennelager while eggs, flour and water were thrown at them. They then had to power through human obstacles to reach the finish line.
This time last year the regiment were on operations in Afghanistan so this year they took a break from training to enjoy the day.

Esapekka Lappi has made it two wins from three starts in this year's FIA European Rally Championship with a dominant victory on the Discover Northern Ireland Circuit of Ireland Rally.
Lappi, who becomes the third different Finnish winner of the legendary Tarmac event, made sure of top spot with the fastest time through the closing Gregorlough test, his 10th stage best of the two-day contest.
It was absolutely a perfect rally, said Lappi, who retakes the lead of the European championship. I keep our performance from yesterday and that's what I am proud of the most. We were supposed to have a fight but that stopped after the first stage so it was about surviving to the finish after that.
Lappi's team-mate Sepp Wiegand beat Robert Barrable to second with Robert Consani fourth, Neil Simpson fifth and ERC 2WD winner Daniel McKenna sixth. Josh Moffett won the ERC Production Car Cup in seventh with Jan Černý making it two wins out of two in ERC Junior. It's really good for us, I'm really happy we won again, said the Czech. It can't be better I think.
Crews are now heading back to Belfast's Titanic Quarter for a short service before the podium finish.

Ireland Adventure Travel
Ireland Adventure Travel, Throughout your travels you will be overwhelmed by the cultural choices on offer -- a play by one of the theatrical greats in Dublin, a traditional music 'session' in a west-Ireland pub or a rock gig in a Limerick saloon. The Irish summer is awash with festivals celebrating everything from flowers in bloom to high literature.
(Taw fall-cha row-at) -- 'You're very welcome'. Or, more famously, céad míle fáilte -- a hundred thousand welcomes. Irish friendliness is a tired cliché, an over-simplification of a character that is infinitely complex, but there's no denying that the Irish are warm and welcoming, if a little reserved at first. Wherever you meet them -- the shop, the bar, the bank queue -- there's a good chance a conversation will begin, pleasantries exchanged and, should you be a stranger in town, the offer of a helping hand extended. But, lest you think this is merely an act of unfettered altruism, rest assured that the comfort they seek is actually their own, for the Irish cannot be at ease in the company of those who aren't. A hundred thousand welcomes. It seems excessive, but in Ireland, excess is encouraged, so long as it's practised in moderation.
Why I Love Ireland Adventure Travel
There's an unvarnished informality about Ireland that I cherish, based on an implied assumption that life is a tangled, confusing struggle that all of us -- irrespective of where we hail from, what our politics are and how we worship -- have to negotiate to the best of our abilities. We're all in this together, come hell or high water, so we may as well be civil and share a moment when we can. Enjoy your Ireland Adventure Travel!
Drumglass Park - Belfast - Lisburn Road - Northern Ireland
Ireland Trip & Eating Out at Belfast! The best trips out there are those which will entertain every single member of the family and which at the same time will end up with a good meal, which was exactly the thing with our trip - we enjoyed walking around the park while the kids were playing and we ended all this with a nice meal.
This time the trip we went on was meant to be for Drumglass Park in Belfast, Northern Ireland - trying to complete the list of parks in the city which we could manage to visit and give the kids some space to play around - and we have to say that it might not carry lots of things to be seen inside but the green space is definitely suitable for the kids to play around.
There is a story behind the appearance of Drumglass Park - which is the case with lots of parks in Northern Ireland. The name of the park was taken from Henry Musgrave who was a well-known landowner who was elected an Honorary Burgess of the city of Belfast in 1917. Musgrave used to live in Drumglass House which is one of the most prestigious houses in the Malone Road area and that is why the name of the park became Drumglass.
When Musgrave died, he left behind 6 acres of his property to the city to be used as a public park or a playground for the children, which was eventually done by the Lady Mayoress of Belfast, Lady Turner, in 1924 and was at the beginning referred to as Drumglass Playcentre. Musgrave House and site's remains are now part of the Victoria College Girl's School.
It is a good thing that those who own a huge land in their country always think about turning it into a garden or a playground for the kids after they die - it become well appreciated.
Drumglass Park in Belfast - located on Lisburn Road - contains a private gate lodge which is located near the entrance of the park, which used to serve as the original lodge for Musgrave's estate and which was built back in 1882 - you could still spot the Musgrave family monogram above one of the doorways.
The park has recently undergone some refurbishments that included the upgrading of the pathways as well as the new drainage system that was installed, the reseeding that was carried out and installing new furniture for the park, new lighting and adding some new artwork as well - these different refurbishments were done recently in 2017 and lots of children and adults came to celebrate and experience the new place.
Taking a bicycle and a scooter along with them, the kids started their race once their legs landed inside the park and they were so happy with the place and with having the chance to play around freely - which is usually the same when it comes to those different parks that we manage to visit in Ireland and Northern Ireland.
After finishing their time and playing around for the amount of time they needed, it was time for us to go and get a good meal and feed our stomachs, so we ended up with fish and chips and turning them into sandwiches as well - this is considered one of the favorite meals that kids could actually choose to eat and since we are outside then we believe that this is considered one of the best options as well.
This was the adventure we have been to this time and the trip we have recently made but we have been to several other parks and gardens before as well in both Ireland and Northern Ireland which we loved their experiences from trails and other options as well as the statues which might be planted everywhere in the park of the garden.
From those different parks which we have been to before in Belfast or other cities around Northern Ireland, there is the famous Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park which is one of the oldest and is believed to be from the most popular as well ( we have been to the Colin Glen Park with its famous Gruffalo trail that the kids enjoyed the most ( in Belfast there is also the Botanic Gardens which we also have been to and which is located near Belfast city cente ( Victoria Park is another option in Belfast city for all those searching for a park to go and have some good time with the family at ( another park which we consider one of the best in Belfast is Ormeau Park which happens to be one of the most famous in Belfast ( there is also the Clement Wilson Park ( Belvoir Park ( and the list could keep getting longer and longer when it comes to the beautiful parks and gardens found in Belfast.
Our trip to Drumglass Park in Belfast was worth it, tell us more about your trip there and share with us your experiences with the other parks as well.

Fun Flying in the Isle of Man
5th May 2012, with Sam Kidd. We had planned to fly to the Paris area to visit a friend of mine and take his son flying, but the weather through the Channel turned out to be crap for this weekend, and so we looked for a direction to fly with better weather...
The Isle of Man was beautiful - unusually clear blue skies, with views from the middle of the Irish Sea across to Ireland, Scotland, England *and* Wales! The island itself is great - we paid a taxi driver to drive us around the famous TT motorcycle race track, which takes place on public roads, and saw the main towns including Douglas, Laxey and Ramsey.
Having landed at Andreas airfield - very stony runways but otherwise a good place to land - we stayed at the nearby Sulby Glenn Hotel recommended by the guy at the airfield: very good choice, having won Pub of the Year several times over the years, and it has decent food, good rooms, and nice beer. But this Saturday night it also had The Singing Cowboy... a sad old bugger in his 60s who should be taken out and shot..! Still, part of the charm I s'pose!
Good flying with my friend and fellow-pilot Sam K. The trip back the next day was in poorer weather, the grey goldfish bowl effect (grey sea, grey sky, grey showers) which is more the norm in the Irish Sea, but lunch at Sleap with friends on the way home capped off a great weekend and I'd highly recommend a flying visit to the Isle of Man for anyone who hasn't done it!

Portadown Bomb 1993 Raw footage & inside buildings
The IRA bombing campaign
Portadown was greatly affected by the Provisional IRA's bombing campaign from 1970 onwards.Large swathes of the High Street and West Street were destroyed on several occasions by large explosions from car/van bombs and improvised explosive devices as were a number of side streets and at various locations elsewhere in the town. The biggest bomb of them all, was the IRA bomb of May 1993. Wikipedia
