Hapuka Landing is the ultimate action packed destination. Do you like TUNA?! We head out to the Hokitika Trench with Josh James and friends to catch a swordfish, we ended up hooking into a good sized Mako shark, catching the biggest Hapuka I have ever caught and harvesting enough Tuna to keep us stocked up over winter. An awesome trip out to this amazing offshore fishery right on our doorstep, but offshore, the water gets to over 800 metres deep very quickly and rises to 200 metres making this an excellent place for a good variety of Big Game Fish species to congregate as well as a good variety of excellent eating table fish

catch and cook as we head to Haast for a hapuka, but catch some Bass instead, ocean was green as so we didnt get in the water for a spearfish, camped at the beach, had a few yarns. Bloody good coupla days

After spending a week on the North Island, we headed South to the West Coast. Unfortunately, unstable weather came with us and the heli-runs were shutdown. So we entertained ourselves on shuttle and hiking runs for the better part of a week while we waited.

deep sea fishing Hokitika Trench New Zealand with Josh James, Dan the Man, Weka for Groper bluenose

we head out offshore to the Hokitika trench off the West Coast of New Zealands South Island to target deep sea monsters. 60km out to sea the target species are swordfish and some tablefish. Groper/hapuka and bluenose live in depths of up to 450 metres and are excellent eating. The firm white flesh is succulent and delicious. We give a lot of fish away to single mums and low income families so nothing is wasted. Even the guts goes into the garden to feed our vegetables.
