Har ki Dun Valley Trek Part 3, Final, Osla - Har ki Dun - Osala - Sankri
This is my final submission of Har ki Dun Trek series.
Har Ki Doon Valley is a cradle shaped hanging valley in the Garhwal Himalayas. It is surrounded by snow-covered peaks and alpine vegetation.[1] It is connected to Baspa Valley by the Borasu Pass
This valley is at an altitude of approx 3500m above mean sea level and is snow-covered during October to March. The valley is around 25 km from Taluka. The trek to the valley starts from Taluka village and passes through Gangaad, Osala, and Seema. It is a 2-day trek usually done in two stages. First stage is from Taluka to Seema/Osla, which is a 14 kilometers journey, and second stage is from Seema/Osla to Har Ki Dun, a total of 11 kilometers. Return route is the same.
It is also possible to complete return journey in a single day, however it can be physically demanding. There is a shop and a small restaurant at Taluka, where trekkers can buy eatables like biscuits and wafers etc.

Har ki dun Trek | Hiking the Valley of Gods trail | HIMALAYAS
Instagram- @vanaprasth
Har-Ki-Dun is a cradle shaped valley in Garhwal region of Indian Himalayas. Its name literally translates to Valley (Dun) of (Ki) Gods (Har). This video is based on hiking the trail that leads to this valley at approximate 3,500 meters (11,500 feet) and Jaundhar Glacier ahead of the valley at approximate 4,300 meters’ altitude. (14,100 feet). The total elevation gain, hiking is about 2,300 meters (7,500 feet).
The trail is situated in 'Govind' Wildlife Sanctuary and National Park, Uttarakhand, India. It is a two-day hike from Taluka village where the trail begins at 2000 meters’ altitude to Har-ki-Dun and one-day hike from Har-ki-Dun to Jaundhar Glacier and back. Indian myths and legends actually that say that this trail leads to heaven and on their way to heaven, the Pandavas took this very trail and scaled the Himalayan peak called Swargrohini (6252m).
Although the trail might not seem very remote and not physically as demanding as some of the other hikes and treks the Himalayan terrain offers, it is rich in culture and one gets to hike through a beautiful trail through the woods on day one, through endless lush green meadows and wild alpine flowers on day two and for new hikers, the trail leading to the Jaundhar glacier is in complete contrast to the first two days and adds a touch of high altitude breathtaking landscapes which make it one of the best treks/hikes in India for beginner trekkers/hikers with no previous experience. (Refer first shot of the video ;)) Almost without exception, any person with average level of fitness can complete the hike but, I like to believe that level of fitness is directly related to the level of enjoyment on the trail.
The village of Osla where you set camp for your first night on the trail is where all the footage of local children is shot. All of these shots have been shot in a public setting and intended to document nothing more than some very human moments of innocence. This village has a temple dedicated to Duryodhana, the eldest of Kauravas, from the Mahabharata built by the inhabitants who worship Kauravas as their ancestors. Wild Himalayan cannabis plants are found in abundance in and around Osla and you may see some of the local elders smoking cannabis using a 'Chillum'!
For enquiries and questions- raj.lodhiya724@gmail.com
If you subscribed, I am not going to post regular content as of now but I will make more videos of different trails and activities not limited to hiking. I already have a cycling in Himalayas video on my channel.
Most of the footage is shot with an iPhone 6 and some with a Nikon D3300. Needless to say, I shot and processed all of it. Most shots are candid.
This hike was planned, organized and guided by mountain experts at GIOAdventures.
Thank you for watching!

Har ki Dun Valley Trek Part 1, Sankri - Taluka - Gangad
Har ki Doon trek Part 1 - Har ki Dun The valley of Gods. The day started with us waking up early as we we're instructed to be in the dining area by 7 am. all 3 of us got ready and came downstairs enjoyed endless tea and buiscuits and then later a scrumptious breakfast of paranthas and potato veggie. Once our vehicle came we started mounting our bags on top of it and then our trek leader said that we had an option to climb up as well if we wanted to. listening to his declaration I started jumping up and down with joy and volunteered for the adventure. our guide decided to climb atop our vehicle too for protective measures of course. We were driven till Taluka from where we started the Har ki Dun trek officially. We started the Har ki Dun trek full of excitement, dreaming of all beautiful places we will get to see and the experiences that waited for us. we we're not to be disappointed as just after we started our trek we could see the Tons river in a distance and far below that was approaching closer and closer with each step. We have never seen a river so clean and so greenish blue in color. Even from a distance we could see the stones beneath the water. Crossing the river on narrow wooden bridges on which only horses and people could walk.

Osla-Sima villages in the lower Har ki dun valley
The barley crops have interesting patterns run through them, as the wind caresses their stalks... Sheep pass by the trekking route into the Har-ki-dun valley, below the twin villages of Osla and Sima.
Notice the lovely traditional construction of houses in Garhwal, with traditional stone and wood use in alternating bands. A young boy carries a farming basket on his back, supported by a band across his forehead.

Har ki Dun Trek, Gangad - Osla Part 2
Gangad is an ancient beautiful little mountain village on the way to Har Ki Dun valley. We stayed here for the night and next morning started the trek to Osla. We met a the local people gained knowledge of their ancient culture and traditions. what caught our eyes was that unlike other cities in india the whole village had only 1 temple, infact all of these mountain villages in the region have only 1 temple in each and they share the same god (idol). the best thing on the Har ki Dun trek is that We walk alongside the Supin River. Har Ki Dun trek was nothing less than magical as it also gave us our very first snowfall just after we reached Osala.

Uttarakhand Album - Har Ki Dun Trek - Har Ki Doon to Sankri | Duryodhana Temple
The Har ki Dun trail takes you back in time. The cradle shaped valley is populated with ancient villages that are over 3,000 years old. This is also one of the few treks where one can come across the local lifestyle in close proximity. Most of the residents here grow rajma, potato and rice for living. They also weave their own wool and make jackets and coats.
The main deity worshipped here in this region is Duryodhana. It is believed that the valley was home to a warrior named Bhog Dat, a Kaurava supporter from the Mahabharata. Because of this, the Har Ki Dun valley is one of the few places in India where Duryodhana is worshipped. But with passing time, this tradition is slowing being forgotten.
