Driving Mahindra mm 540 jeep along a small stream, a tributary of river Cauvery at Hadgur village.

At a distance of 34 Kms from Madikeri & 10 Kms from Kushalnagar, Harangi Dam is built against a small stream, a tributary of river Cauvery at Hadgur village. The dam is 846 meters long with a height of 47 meters. The dam attracts large crowd during the monsoon season when the gates are opened and the water is released. It is one of the popular sightseeing places in Coorg. The backwaters are spread across several acres with small islands in the middle and thick forest on the banks.

There is a small garden near the dam and a stone statue of Goddess Cauvery. Just around the reservoir there is Chamundeshwari Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva & Goddess Parvathi.

The Harangi Reservoir is located near Hudgur village, Somwarpet taluk in Kodagu district in state of Karnataka. The reservoir is formed by a masonry dam built across the river Harangi, a tributary of the Cauaveri river. The dam is located about 9 km away from the heart of Kushalnagar town. The best time to visit this dam is during July to September, when copious amount of water is released from dam. The footages are taken during month of October.

Harangi dam is the first Dam to have been built across River Cauvery. The reservoir is formed by a masonry dam built across the river Harangi, a tributary of the Kaveri. The dam is located about 9 km away from the heart of Kushalnagar town. Harangi Dam was completed in the Year 1982.
The Harangi river originates in the Pushpagiri Hills of Western Ghats in Kodagu, Karnataka. Heavy rainfall from the south-west monsoon is the source of water in the catchment area of Harangi River which is about 717 km. The length of the Harangi river from its origin to the confluence with the Kaveri river is 50 km. The Harangi River joins the river Cauvery near Kudige in Somwarpet taluk.
Harangi Dam is located at a distance of approximately 36 km from Madikeri. 95 Kms from Mysore and 230 kms from Bangalore. The Harangi Power House and the Harangi Reservoir are located nearby.

Kanive Aquaduct is special not only for carrying water from Harangi reservoir to the neighbouring and surrounding areas of Mysore district facilitating irrigation but also for the reason that was used by the people as a bridge to go to several villages located in Mysore district and vice-versa. An aqueduct is a watercourse constructed to carry water from a source to a distribution point far away. Historically, agricultural societies have constructed aqueducts to irrigate crops and supply large cities with drinking water. The Indian subcontinent is believed to have some of the earliest aqueducts.
There is a hanging bridge from the temple to the next village. There is a hanging foot bridge on the Kaveri river which connects to the next village, the bridge also attracts tourists. The 80-metre hanging bridge across the Cauvery, facilitating movement of the people from Kodagu and Mysore district from Kanive village in Kodagu and vice-versa, was inaugurated on 30th August 2011. The bridge connects people of Kanive and surrounding villages in Somwarpet taluk of Kodagu with Chikkakamaravalli, Doddakamaravalli, Dindugadu, Mantikoplu, Sulekote and other areas in Periyapatna taluk of Mysore district. The bridge is constructed involving a cost of Rs. 49 lakh. . Girish Bharadwaj, engineer from Sullia, designed this bridge. This is the 101st hanging bridge built by Mr. Bharadwaj. Previously people from Kanive would use the aqueduct and even motorcyclists used to go on the aqueduct route to reach Periyapatna villages.
The famous Rama Lingeshwara temple is located here. Kanive Sri Ramalingeswara Temple is one of the oldest religious Hindu temples located in small village Kanive. This Temple is situated on the bank of river Kaveri. It is believed that lord Sri Rama performed a pooja to the shiva linga to obtain relief from deed of Killing Ravana (Brahma Hathya Dosha). As per mythicism the Shiva linga here was installed by lord Sri Rama. Rathosthava and Jathra events are taking place during Rama Navami.
Kanive is a small village which is located 9 km north of Kushalanagar in Kodagu district near Kudige on the road from Kushal Nagar to Hassan of Karnataka state, India. Kanive also sits on the bank of Kaveri river.
Kanive is 7 km via SH 91 or 11 minutes drive from Kushalnagar, 37.5 km via NH275 or 52 minutes drive from Madikeri, 52 km via SH 91 or 1 hour 18 minutes drive from Virajpet
23 km via Belur or 36 minutes drive from Somwarpet

Harangi Reservoir Coorg Kushalnagar during July 2k18

The HARANGI RESERVOIR is located near Hudugur village, Somwarpet taluk in Kodagu district in INDIAN state of Karnataka.

The reservoir is formed by masonry dam built across the river Harangi, a tributary of the river Kaveri and has a height of 47 metres and length of 846 metres. The dam is located about 9 km away from the heart of Kushalnagar town and 36 km from Madikeri.

It is one of the popular picnic spot with mesmerising natural setting and relaxed atmosphere. This place is comparitively less crowded and perfect place to find peaceful time. Soothing environment with gentle breeze greets as you enter the area around the dam.

The best time to visit the dam is during the months of August to September. During this time the reservoir is completely filled with water creating for a picture perfect setting...
