Port Isaac On The North Coast Of Cornwall
Port Isaac is a small and picturesque fishing village on the Atlantic coast of north Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. The nearest towns are Wadebridge and Camelford, both ten miles away. Port Gaverne, commonly mistaken to be part of Port Isaac, is a nearby hamlet that has its own history. The meaning of the Cornish name is corn port, indicating a trade in corn from the arable inland district.
Since the 1980s the village has served as backdrop to various television productions, including the ITV series Doc Martin, and is home to the group Fisherman's Friends, sea-shanty singers.
Locations in and around the village have been used for a number of films and television series, including:
Doc Martin (2004–present), ITV series, seven series filmed in the port (using the fictional name of Portwenn; also used in the Sky Pictures movies Doc Martin and Doc Martin and the Legend of the Cloutie under its true name, Port Isaac).
Poldark (1975–77), a BBC television series, used locations in the area.
Tarry-Dan Tarry-Dan Scarey Old Spooky Man (1978), BBC supernatural play.
The Nightmare Man (1981), BBC drama serial, filmed in and around the village – which doubled for a Scottish island.
Oscar and Lucinda (1997), film.
DIY SOS, featured the village hall being decorated.
Saving Grace (2000), a comedy film, was filmed in and around the village.
The Shell Seekers (2005), a television production with Vanessa Redgrave, where the village was used as the backdrop and many scenes were shot in the main street.

UK Cornwall - Port Isaac
A summer day in the picturesque Port Isaac village in Cornwall UK.
A Walk Around Port Isaac, Cornwall, England
On the day I visited Port Isaac, the weather was miserable. It was a gray on gray winter day, a cold Celtic Sea Wind howling down my neck, light rain, although it was late summer in reality. The wind was blowing with such force that it made all audio recording useless with wind distortion noise in the microphone.(a huge annoyance in my book is wind distortion noise, and I do use a big ol Dead Cat). There were no clouds with any dramatic effect, only the white blanket overhead look. So, I feel my video clips were just a waste of time. And, there are 100 other videos on Port Isaac that are 100 time better. Not to mention the Doc Martin clips are stunning, so you can get a better idea with watching that show. My only alternative was to take the clips and get creative with them. I made this film in what I hope to be a dream like quality. Almost as if I was in Port Isaac in a dream.
Port Isaac, Cornwall
Port Isaac is a small harbor village on the north coast of Cornwall. Modern holiday homes form the upper section of the village, but the lower harborside cottages and buildings date from the 18th and 19th century. Leading to and from the harbor area, extremely narrow roads are shared by motorists and pedestrians. At the harborside, Port Isaac Fishermen Ltd. sells fresh, local whole fish and shellfish.
In recent times, Port Isaac has served as the fictional Port Wenn in ITVs Doc Martin series , and the narrow Roscarrock Hill lane is often crowded with tourists in search of Doc Martins famous cottage/surgery. At the upper end of the lane, a section of the South West Coast Path leads across the clifftops for 5 km. to Port Quin.

Here is a suggested walk to avoid parking in Port Isaac. You can also visit Doyden Castle, featured in Doc Martin Ep 8 series 5. It is a demanding walk though - so be warned!! The coastal return is fabulous and you might see some seals playing in the sea.
