BC Transit Unveils Technology Packed Bus on Nanaimo Streets
NANAIMO - Wi-Fi connections, LCD screens, and door to door security cameras may not be what you expected on a city bus, but if you were in Nanaimo today you will need to adjust your expectations. BC Transit unveiled the future of its fleet in the harbour city today. The half million dollar machine is called the Nova Bus, and has already been given a nick name The people limo. The bus that put rubber on the road for the first time in Nanaimo today was only on a test run, though BC transit is expected to replace an aging fleet with a number of the technologically advanced buses in the fall.
Representatives with the Nanaimo Regional Districts are impressed with the state of the art vehicles, but say they don't want style to overshadow substance. RDN chairmen Joe Stanhope saying what is absolutely needed in my opinion is local representation on the BC transit board, it has to happen. Following a six figure management fee increase , and the possibility of losing several of their newest buses the RDN complained to the provincial government that small towns and cities in BC were being overlooked by BC transit. Under the leadership of Nanaimo's Joe Stanhope a government review council was created to look closer at the problems associated with transit authority.

Vancouver Island's Largest Development Breaks Ground
COLWOOD -- It is being called the largest development on Vancouver Island, and one of the biggest of its kind in Canada.
Ground broke today on 'Capital City Centre,' a mega development that will span almost 14 acres in Colwood, where Colwood Corners stands today.
In the peak of construction the project is expected to provide jobs for as many as 500 people.
When it is complete in twenty years, more than four thousand people are expected to call the development home, with 2200 residential units in the plan.
Colwood City Council says it is good for business and economic development, but questions are still being raised about transportation in and out of the region. A proposed light rail transit system is estimated to cost more than $1 billion dollars.

Nanaimo woman puts Volkswagen in hot seat
NANAIMO - Nanaimo's Lisa Cunnian is putting a major automaker in the hot seat. She says she was heading out in her 2004 Volkswagen Jetta with her two kids in the back when she smelled smoke. The heater in her car seat had overheated and burned right through the fabric.
All of a sudden I felt like my leg was burning and I looked down to see smoke coming from my seat. It smoldered for a little but went out, says Cunnian. It left a dime sized hole in her seat and some burn marks on her pants. I want them to take responsibility.
Cunnian took her car to her local Volkswagen dealership to get it repaired. It would cost $600. Unfortunately there wasn't any extended warranty from the manufacturer, Volkswagon Canada itself, said Harbourview Volkswagen's Josh Wynia.
Over the past 23 years, Transport Canada has logged a 119 complaints about over heated car seat warmers, 62 of those reports are about Volkswagen. The car company recalled 94,000 VW cars to repair the heater problem and Cunnian's car was one of them. Volkswagen Canada has refused to pay for the repairs but the local dealership is stepping up. We are here because of the kind of business we run. We are more than willing to assist and help out. The situation is undetermined at the moment but we are willing to help out.

West End - Kitsilano, Vancouver CANADA バンクーバー
The West End of Vancouver, is on the downtown peninsula neighbouring Stanley Park and the areas of Yaletown, Coal Harbour and the downtown financial and central business districts.
Kitsilano (often referred to simply as Kits), South Granville and Granville Island form most of the northern part of the Vancouver west side. In the 1960s Kits was a neighbourhood where hippies tuned in and dropped out but today it has some of Vancouver's most expensive properties. It is situated right on the beach and very close to downtown.

Cycling to Vancouver Island | Ferry + Gabriola I.
My first time taking my bike on BC Ferries was a pleasant experience.
I left from downtown Vancouver via bus to Horseshoe Bay where I got on the ferry to Nanaimo. From there it was a relatively short bike ride to the next smaller ferry. (vegan burrito break first, though!)
I spent the weekend at The Haven on Gabriola Island doing a personal development program featuring a variety of workshops for young adults.
Then on my way back home to Vancouver I was able to witness a gorgeous sunset from the Lions Gate Bridge. Talk about a great way to end a weekend.
