The origins of Kashmir exist in the form of myths from a time when the region was believed to have been a lake, inhabited by a demon named Jalodbhava who was immortal for as long as he stayed underwater. It is believed that the gods drained the lake, sending him into hiding until Sharika Devi—the patron goddess of Kashmir and incarnation of Parvati—assumed the form of a myna and dropped a pebble from her beak, which turned into a rock, killing the demon. This myth is enshrined in the form of a rock worshipped as a ‘swayambhu’ shrine at the Chakreshwar Temple dedicated to Sharika Devi on Hari Parbat Hill in Srinagar.
HARI PARBAT is a hill overlooking Srinagar, the largest city and summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir. It is the site of famous Sharika Devi temple dedicated to goddess Jagadamba Sharika Bhagwati who is regarded as the presiding deity (`isht`-Devi) of Srinagar city.
The hill is considered sacred by the Kashmiri Pandits and hosts a temple of Shakti, or Goddess, which is located in the middle part of the western slope of the hill. Shakti is worshipped there under the name Jagadamba Sharika Bhagawati (or simply Sharika) and depicted as having 18 arms and sitting in Shri Chakra, an emblem of cosmic energy pervading the Universe.
On the day celebrated as Sharika's birthday, devotees make a sacrificial offering of taher-charvan to the goddess (taher - rice boiled with turmeric powder and mixed with oil and salt; charvan – cooked goat liver).
The southern side of Hari Parbat features Makhdoom Sahib, the shrine of Hamza Makhdoom, a 16th-century Kashmiri Sufi saint locally known as Hazrat Sultan and Sultan-ul-Arifeen.
Another shrine on the hill's southern slope is dedicated to Shah Badakhshi, a 17th-century Sufi saint.
Gurdwara Chatti Patshahi at Kathi Darwaja, Rainwari, Srinagar is one of the most important Sikh gurdwaras in Kashmir. It is believed that Guru Har Gobind, the sixth Sikh guru, travelled through Kashmir, stopping to preach occasionally and stayed there for few days

The Sharika Devi Temple is situated on westerns slope of the Hari Parbat in Srinagar. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Jagadamba Sharika Bhagwati, an incarnation of Mata Durga/ Shakti. The idol inside the temple has 18 arms and is regarded as the presiding deity of the Srinagar by Hindu followers. This temple is regarded as one of the most sacred sites by Kashmiri Pandits, this day is celebrated as Har Navum. The shrine is thronged with devotees in large number on the birthday of Sharika Bhagwati. They offer a special offering locally termed as 'Taher Charvan' (A dish of boiled rice with turmeric, oil and salt and another dish is of cooked liver of goat) to the goddess.

Its was occupied by Army till recently when it was opned for tourists.. Finally after so many years i finally am going up there ... Stay in this vlog of mine and i am sure you will enjoy watching it

Another name for the hill is Pradyumna Peeth It is considered sacred by the Kashmiri Pandits and hosts a temple of Shakti, who is worshipped there under the name Jagadamba Sharika Bhagawati (or simply Sharika) and depicted as having 18 arms and sitting in Shri Chakra.
The Hari Parbat Fort is an iconic site, visible from anywhere in Srinagar on its perch atop Sharika Hill. Climb to this Mughal fortification, learn about the ancient rulers of India's Kashmir district, stop by sacred spiritual shrines and capture spectacular views of Dal Lake.
Sharika Hill itself holds great spiritual significance. It is believed to be a gargantuan stone that was dropped onto the demon Jalobhava, who once oppressed the region. Note the Sikh, Hindu and Muslim landmarks built upon the slopes of this spiritually charged locale.
Tackle the hill from one of two directions. Approach from the south to pass through the Gurdwara Chatti Patshahi, a resplendent gateway that is sacred in Sikh culture. Admire the ornate domes atop this cream-white building, and then continue to the Makhdoom Sahib Shrine. The multi-columned façade of this Muslim landmark makes for a dramatic photo.
Alternatively, begin your ascent from Hawal and pass by the Sharika Temple. This site is revered by the Hindu practitioners who pray to the multi-armed goddess Jagadamba Sharika Bhagwati beneath the temple’s white-and-orange domes.
As you near the fort, admire the walls that appear to be carved out of the very hilltop itself. Its construction began with Akbar, a Mughal emperor, in 1590. His project, however, was not completed until 1808, under the rule of Shuja Shah Durrani.
The fort was opened to the public in 2014, allowing for guided tours of the Kallai Ander (inner walls) and Badamvaer (almond garden). Learn about the fort's history and significance as you explore its defenses and chambers.
Afterward, take a picnic to the park outside the walls and enjoy a meal beneath the heavy stone structure. The hilltop also offers panoramic views of Srinagar's downtown district, Dal Lake and the Zarbarwan Mountain range.
Hari Parbat Hill and the paths leading to the fort are found adjacent to Srinagar's old town. Access to the fort may be limited so check with tourism operators before visiting.

Hari Parbat Fort is now a historical monument of Srinagar situated on Hari Parbat hill. Hari Parbat is also known as Mughal Fort.
Hari Parbat is a hill overlooking Srinagar, the largest city and summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir. It is the site of a Durrani fort, built in 1808. It has the famous Shakti Temple on the western Slope and Muslim shrines of Khwaja Makhdoom Sahib and Akhund Mullah Shah on the southern slope. On the southern side of the outer wall there is a Gurudwara, which commemorates the visit of Guru Hargobind.

The hill is considered sacred by the Kashmiri Pandits due to the presence of temple of Sharika. Temple is of goddess Jagadamba Sharika Bhagwati. She has 18 arms and is regarded as the presiding deity (`isht`-Devi) of Srinagar city. The goddess is represented by a Swyambhu Shrichakra (Mahamaha Shrichakra), also called Mahashriyantra, which consists of circular mystic impressions and triangular patterns with a dot (bindu) at the center. Sharika Devi is believed to be a form of Durga Mata or Shakti.

Nestled below the imposing Mughal Fort is the shrine of Sheikh Hamza Makhdum. Also known as Makhdoom Sahib, Mehboob-ul-Alam and Sultan-Ul-Arifeen. Shrine is towards the southern side of Hari Parbat Hill. It is one of the most sacred shrines in Kashmir. This double storied, many-pillared structure displays a remarkable architectural style. This shrine is visited not only by Muslims but by people of all faiths, throughout the year. Makhdoom Sahib, also called Hazrat Sultan, was a Sufi saint.
