Starring Danny Glover and Ben Guillory, The Harimaya Bridge is a drama about an American father who reluctantly makes a trip to Japan to retrieve his son's belongings who had passed away in accident earlier.
This film draws you into the prejudice between people of different race and cultural backgrounds. Intertwined in the story is the relationship, conflict and bond between father and son.
Award winning Japanese actresses Saki Takaoka and Misa Shimizu star in Harimaya Bridge along with Misono (Koda Kumi's sister) who sings the theme song.
Written and directed by Aaron Woolfolk, JET Program / JET Japan Exchange and Teaching Program who taught English in Kochi prefecture where the film was shot.

Daniel Holder's father was killed fighting the Japanese during the Second World War...something he thought he had made peace with long ago, until a recent discovery opened up old emotional wounds. So when Daniel's beloved artist son Mickey takes a job in Japan teaching English, it creates a rift between them. Mickey dies in a traffic accident, and Daniel's profound regret at their estrangement is matched only by his increased resentment towards Japan...a country he thinks took not only his father, but now his only child as well. Despite these feelings, Daniel goes to Japan to retrieve Mickey's final paintings. But despite the kindness he is shown and the evidence of the happy life his son led, he cannot let go of his negative feelings. But unexpected discoveries about Mickey's life and legacy change everything for Daniel, forcing him to reassess his feelings and the life he will henceforth lead. Ryugado Limestone Cave, Kochi - 龍河洞●高知 - Japan As It Truly Is
Ryugado is one of the Top 3 caves, located in Shikoku Japan. If you like the film Aliens, you're going to totally love this place!
The Ryugado Limestone Cave in Kami City, Kochi, gives you a unique experience of walking 150 million years back in time, to see an amazing cave with underground streams, several waterfalls (one 11m high), and all kinds of growing formations still under construction. It was discovered in 1931, about 4 km in length (1 km open to walk through) and takes about 30 minutes to explore. There is also a 2 hour adventure course through other sections (advanced reservations required). In contrast to the bigger Akiyoshido in Yamaguchi with massive open caverns, as shown on
Ryugado is more narrow (in fact, if you're obese, claustrophobic or paranoid, maybe you should pass) and you will need to stoop a few times and squeeze through a few narrow places. But what you will see is simply breathtaking. You can also see a few human historical remains that are around 2000 years old.
Ryugado is closest to Tosa-Yamada Station, with infrequent buses going there. It may be better to catch a taxi there, and return by bus to better fit your schedule. Included at the end of your trek are some roosters, including some locally famed long tail roosters.
This being Japan, you will always see a Japanese touch to the place. Japanese guides are always very polite and welcoming. There is a cutesy mascot to welcome you at the entrance. The roosters are sadly locked up in the most cramped and confining small containers. And you'll see a young Japanese mother with her family visiting -- always looking sharp -- and ready to walk through the cave in high heels.

So I stayed up pretty late last night watching a really awesome movie, sort of gives you a glimpse of Japan WITHOUT Tokyo, so was a really nice change!

Japan Rail Trip #11: Seto Bridge to Kochi, Shikoku 瀬戸大橋から高知へ

We left Kyushu and moved to Okayama, where the express train 'Nanpu' departs to Kochi. The train crossed over the Seto bridge, which used to be the longest bridge in the world. The view of the Seto strait from the train is awesome from both sides.
In Kochi, we saw famous bridge 'Harimaya-bashi' (-bashi means bridge, or the word is not connected, you can say 'hashi'). The bridge is tiny one but pretty.
Then we went to the food market popular with both locals and tourists. It is called 'Hirome Ichiba' (Ichiba means Market). The food there was delicious. What we choose were Katsuo-no-Tataki (Half cooked Bonito), Nankotsu-no-Karaage (Fried chicken cartridge), Gyoza (Fried Dumpling) and Gyu-Suji-Nikomi (Beef tendon stew). Had fun Kochu night.
Breakfast next day served by hotel was only 100 yen but quite good.
Unfortunately the weather had not been so good but we still had a very nice time in Kochi, Shikoku, Japan.
ナイジとジュンは岡山から特急南風号に乗って高知に向かいました。かつては世界一の長さを誇った瀬戸大橋を特急電車で渡りました。そこからの眺めは格別でした。
高知ではまず有名な「はりまや橋」を見ました。小さな赤い橋でかわいかったです。
その後、高知の地元人と観光客の双方が訪れるという「ひろめ市場」へ。そこで食べた鰹のたたき、軟骨唐揚げ、餃子、牛すじの煮込みがとても美味しかったです。
翌日のホテルの朝食は100円で食べられました。100円でありながらおにぎり定食を食べられました。味も美味しくコスパ最高でした。
ただひとつ残念だったのは、天気が悪かったことです。

路面電車交わる「奇跡の瞬間」トリプルクロス、がっかり名所を動かした
「よさこい節」にも登場する高知市の代表的観光スポット「はりまや橋」。だが何の変哲もない朱塗りの太鼓橋は「日本３大がっかり名所」の筆頭格に挙げられる。そこに救世主のごとく現れた新名物・路面電車の「トリプルクロス」をＰＲする看板が交差点脇に登場する。費用は全国からネットで募るが、お礼の目玉は「夜のトリプルクロス」招待だ。
はりまや橋のすぐ脇、幹線道路が交わる高知の「銀座４丁目」的存在のはりまや交差点で、３両の電車が同時にすれ違うのがトリプルクロスだ。交差点には東西・南北方面の複線線路が平面交差する「ダイヤモンドクロッシング」がある。加えて、各方面からの左折用線路４本と北から西への右折用が１本。この唯一無二の配線と昨春のダイヤ改定が「奇跡の光景」を生み出した。
平日午前８時１２分ごろ、南北方向の信号が右折表示になる間に、北→西、西→北、東→南に進む３両が同時に交差点内を通過する。ただし運が良ければ。ダイヤ上では成立せず、乗降時間や信号のタイミングなどで１両が微妙に遅れた時にだけ出現するためだ。
