Betty's Visit to Sanders Cafe--the First KFC!--NO RECIPE--
Betty and her husband, Rick, visit Sanders Cafe, the first and original KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) restaurant! The restaurant is located in Corbin, Kentucky--about 60 miles south of our home in Richmond, Kentucky. The restaurant was established by Colonel Harland Sanders, who developed a recipe for Kentucky Fried Chicken, using 11 herbs and spices and a method of using a pressure cooker to fry the chicken quickly, retaining its moisture. The Colonel began his Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise at age 65, using his first social security check of $105, and sold the franchise in 1964 for $2 million. It later became known as KFC, which currently has fast-food restaurants worldwide. In this video, I show you the restaurant, which includes a small museum. I will be making my own version of Kentucky Fried Popcorn Chicken in a later video. Thanks for watching!--Betty :)

Birthplace of Kentucky Fried Chicken
The place where it all started from...Kentucky Fried Chicken. Colonel Harland Sanders Cafe was part of a complex of a motel and service station. The first part of the video shows a model of the property as it looked in the 1940's. Finally a look at the memorabilia on display in the museum. In addition to the museum there is a fully operational KFC. Located in Corbin, Kentucky just 2.5 miles off interstate 75.
1st KFC in Corbin Kentucky
Here is where Kentucky's most famous citizen, Harland Sanders, came up with his delicious recipe for fried chicken. Ummm um. Damn, you are finger licking good. Unfortunately many Kentuckians are too poor to enjoy KFC. They have to lick other's people's fingers.
The First KFC on Earth (Corbin, Kentucky)
FILMED IN HIGH DEFINITION
Amazing historical restaurant and museum: this is where all the KFC’s in the world started!
This is a very personal segment I filmed in 2018. My parents were big into roadtrips, and we travelled everywhere in the summer. We went to all kinds of quirky, unusual places. My Dad had talked about visiting the first KFC in the world, at Corbin, Kentucky, but his life was cut short by a heart attack in 1980. He was only 46. While Mom and I continued to do road trips, especially after I got a good job after college, we never made to Corbin, before she too died, of cancer, in 1999. I thought about it often, as an unfulfilled family dream. Finally, as a consultant at Lexington, Kentucky, I looked up Corbin on my GPS and found it was only an hour and a half drive south. This short film is about closing the circle of a family quest.

Colonel Sanders in a shootout?
The First KFC
Recorded June 29, 2014
My brother's visit to Colonel Sander's original restaurant in Corbin, Kentucky. This is where the Colonel first started selling his famous fried chicken in the 1930s. But it is not the first KFC. Pete Harman in Utah was the first franchisee to start selling his chicken. He coined the name Kentucky Fried Chicken for his restaurant in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1952.

The Tragic Real-Life Story Of Colonel Sanders
Colonel Sanders is probably the most recognizable icon in fast food history. However, most people don't know too much about the man himself. Much of what you may have heard is little more than myth, but forget the fiction: This is the tragic real-life story of Colonel Harland Sanders...
