The South - 24th October 2016 - Harpenden Public Halls, Hertfordshire.
A short compilation of phone-video clips taken at Harpenden Public Halls, Monday 24th October. When great British pop institution, The Beautiful South split in 2006, several members of the band weren’t ready to let it go. So 2 years later, singers Dave Hemingway and Alison Wheeler, alongside life long members Damon Butcher (keys) and Gaz Birtles (sax) came out of retirement and formed the 9 piece band, The South.
A few years further down the line The South continue to tour and now have their debut album under their belt. A self financed labour of love, Sweet Refrains unveils their own brand of irresistible pop melodies laced with twists of caustic wit and opens another new chapter started by The Beautiful South.

Roy Ayers 'Everybody Loves the Sunshine' Live at Harpenden Halls UK 2.12.15
Video by This superb vibraphonist crafted a winning mix of soul, world music and jazz that rode high on the jazz and R&B charts throughout the 1970s and ’80s.
Roy Ayers started out as a solid hard bop musician, but he quickly upped the soul and disco elements of his sound, and his sophisticated music became an uptown pop staple of disco-era black America.
Even while Ayers was gaining attention for such R&B hits as ‘Running Away’, ‘Hot’ and ‘In the Dark’, his overall reputation kept growing, particularly in the UK, and he’s now considered a pioneer of Britain’s acid jazz movement.
His work is also widely sampled by American hip-hop producers, and his juicy crossover albums are now as widely available as his soul jazz efforts should be.
Ayers has earned his place in pop history as one of the few modern jazz musicians who blueprinted a pop sound with his band, not with his instrument.
