scenes from Harris Riverfront Park in Huntington, West Virginia
This shows Harris Riverfront Park in Huntington, West Virginia on Sunday morning, May 20, 2018. Featured are flowers, the Ohio River and the flood wall that keeps the river inside the park and outside of the city proper. According to a park worker, this park had been totally flooded as recently as a month ago and they had had to use the flood gates and flood wall. According to her, there are still parts of the park underwater in this video that are normally above water but are still submerged due to the river being higher than normal. I think they did an amazing clean up job because overall, as pictured here, this park looks great. Would never have imagined there was a flood just a month ago.

I bought a water sprinkler timer for cheap on Amazon. I have NO tool skills, so my friend Mark drilled some holes in the thing to both mount a camera, and to mount the timer to a tripod. Fully cranked, the timer will rotate for two hours.

Ohio River in Huntington, West Virginia May 21, 2018
This is the Ohio River Sunday morning, May 21, 2018 at Harris Riverfront Park in Huntington, West Virginia. According to a park worker, there had been a flood within the last month in the exact spot from which I was filming where they had to use the floodgates and flood wall. I will be posting a separate video of the flood gates and wall. According to this worker, parts of the park are still flooded in this video and normally along the river there would be more park than you can see in this video. The Artist Installed in the Mall
Paper artist Kelly O'Brien returned to the Huntington Mall at Barboursville, courtesy of the microWave Project, to spend a week installing an original paper artwork. The piece was unveiled Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at Center Court and will remain up for six months. The video, a companion piece to a Sunday, Dec. 9 Sunday Gazette-Mail story, tracks the project from start to unveiling.

BARBOURSVILLE, W.Va. -- Installation art. Shopping mall.
These two phrases do not usually go together in West Virginia.
Yet for the past week, behind a scrim of black fabric at Huntington Mall's center court, an artist now based in Germany has fabricated an ambitious piece of installation art.
Hope Blossoms was unveiled Dec. 8, revealing hundreds of pink cherry blossoms of paper, folded by hand, sprouting from white branches, surrounding a swan ballet dancer. A cascade of blossoms rises from the branches, floating upward on string like soap bubbles toward the skylights.
The mall company, the Cafaros, have a campaign called their 'Believe' campaign, says the work's creator, Kelly O'Brien. One of the themes is 'hope.' So, I kind of played with the idea of hope and it ties into the idea of the optimism related to hope. There's more to it than that, but that's the underpinning.
The cherry blossoms recall the artist's decades of work in that cherry blossom capital of Washington, D.C., where O'Brien was a late bloomer to the life of international installation artist.
Born in Norfolk, Va., she worked for years as a government contractor, hired to consult on leadership development and change management for a range of agencies, including NASA, she said. Basically, that's the equivalent of being an industrial shrink for big agencies.
She began to manage some change in her own life of power suits and PowerPoint presentations, veering dramatically from the D.C. job she'd landed with her master's degree in human development. I had shoulder pads back in the day, she said, smiling while ascending a ladder to hang a branch ...
