Spirit of Nevada - Nevada State Museum
The Nevada State Museum sits on a 70,000 square-feet of exhibit space in the Springs Preserve campus. The 9th Annual Tim Jones Memorial Rotary Ride for Rescue Cheque Presentation.
In June of this year, there were 244 cyclists who participated in the fun and challenging Rotary Ride for Rescue. With a team of sponsors, the Rotary Club of West Vancouver Sunrise’s Ride for Rescue event raised a record $51,000 for the North Shore Rescue Services.
On Saturday, June 13th 2020, Rotary Club of West Vancouver Sunrise President, Matt Gul, has ambitious goals for this prestigious occasion, saying “it will be excellent if we can increase the number of riders and the amount raised for Rescue and other Community Projects and with your support, this is very doable.”
Overall, the 2019 Rotary Ride for Rescue was a great success raising over $94,000 for benefit of North Shore Rescue, Royal Canadian Search and Rescue Stations 1 and 2, the West Vancouver Police Department’s Pulling Together Canoe Journey, West Vancouver Municipalities Summer Work Experience and Adventure Program, the West Vancouver Memorial Library’s Teen Summer Reading program and other Rotary supported projects.
The Cheque Presentation to North Shore Rescue for $51,000 took place last week at North Shore Rescues Headquarters. This event also included presenting Honorary Rotary Membership to members of the community who are strong supporters of Rotary projects and the Values of Rotary, including MLA Ralph Sultan, Mayor Mary Ann Booth, Councillor Bill Soprovich and West Vancouver Police Department’s Anne Russell.
About the event, Rotary West Vancouver Sunrise President Matt Gul said “This year there were 244 cyclists, a record for the Ride and we take this opportunity to thank all the cyclists and our community partners for your strong support without which this event would not be the success that it has become. In particular our Presenting Partner Audi Capilano, our partners British Pacific Properties, Cypress Mountain, Split Mango, Method Cycling, Mulgrave School, North Shore Rescue, and BC Cycling; our Gold Sponsors Upward Construction and Renovation Limited and Standard Building Supplies Limited; our Silver Sponsors VPG Realty, Neptune Terminals, Polygon, Concert, and North Shore News; our Bronze Sponsors Bean Around the World Coffee, Stongs Market, North Construction, and Three Sixty Media; and all the cycling clubs and cyclist who had incredible climbs and created an exciting spectacle.”

TOP 10 REAL LIFE SCARY PICTURES
#1 This photo was taken in 1963 by Reverend K.F. Lord. The focus of the picture was the altar in the Church of Christ the Consoler found in Skelton-cum-Newby in North Yorkshire, England.
At the time the Reverend had seen nothing out of the ordinary but, upon processing, the photos showed a curious and frightening extra. A hooded monk like figure is clearly visible standing to the right of the altar.
#2 In 1966, Rev. Ralph Hardy, a retired clergyman from White Rock, British Columbia intended merely to photograph the elegant spiral staircase (known as the Tulip Staircase) in the Queen's House section of the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, England.
However, when Mr. and Mrs. Hardy had their photos developed back in Canada, the Tulip Stairs revealed a shrouded figure appear to be roaming the stairs, grasping the railings.
#3 Harvey Murray Glatman was known as The Lonely Hearts Killer and The Glamour Girl Slayer. He would use several pseudonyms, posing as a professional photographer to lure his victims with the promise of a modelling opportunities and then torture and rape, before eventually killing them.

b.) March 9, 1958—Glatman murdered Shirley Ann Bridgeford in San Diego County, California
c.) July 24, 1958—Glatman murdered Ruth Mercado in San Diego County, California
#4 Robert Ben Rhoades, known as “The Truck Stop Killer” took this photo of his victim Regina Kay Walters before her death. It is believed Rhoades murdered and raped over 50 women before being convicted.
Regina Kay Walters, a 14 year old girl from Pasadena, Texas, was hitchhiking with her boyfriend, Ricky Jones, when Rhoades picked them up in February of 1990.
#5 Photojournalist Frank Fournier took the photo just hours before she died. It was a photo that would later win the World Press Photo of Year award in 1986.
This thirteen year-old girl named Omayra Sanchez was a victim of the 1985 eruption of the Nevado del Ruiz volcano which erupted on November 13 in Armero, Columbia. She was trapped underneath her house for 60 hours in water, concrete, mud and other debris.
#6 The photograph is by Alice Seeley Harris, the man’s name is Nsala. Here is part of her account (from the book “Don’t Call Me Lady: The Journey of Lady Alice Seeley Harris”): He hadn’t made his rubber quota for the day so the Belgian-appointed overseers had cut off his daughter’s hand and foot. Her name was Boali. She was five years old. Then they killed her.
#7 On August 10, 1991, Ghost Research Society (GRS) investigator Jude Huff took many photos of the Bachelor's Grove Cemetery located in the woods near Midlothian, Illinois. The GRS team had ventured out to the cemetery to explore the claims of paranormal happenings amongst the overgrown graves.
The cemetery was empty, except for the GRS members. When developed, this image emerged: what looks like a lonely-looking young woman dressed in white sitting on a tombstone. Parts of her body are partially transparent and the style of the dress seems to be out of date.
#8 An aerial view of one of the most disturbing death photos ever. 909 people, many of them children, died in a mass murder-suicide in 1978 by drinking cyanide-laced punch at the order of cult leader Jim Jones taken.
Rev Jim Jones, the charismatic leader of an American cult in the Guyanese jungle, who once preached against racism. He ordered his followers to murder a US congressman and several journalists, then commit mass suicide. According to him this is a “revolutionary act”.
#9 August 19, 2014 - San Miguel, Bulacan, Philippines – Seven out of nine students of Bulacan State University (BSU) drowned after being swept away by flash floods while crossing the Madlum River in Barangay Sibul, San Miguel, Bulacan.
The bodies of students Mikhail Alcantara, Phil Rodney Alejo, Michelle Ann Rose Bonzo and Helena Marcelo were recovered on the same day (Tuesday).
On Wednesday, remains of Jenette Rivera and Madel Navarro were found. The remains of the seventh victim, identified as Maiko Bartolome, were found Thursday morning.
#10 September 24, 2017 - Vishwas was part of a group of NCC cadets who had gone for an outing to Kanakapura in Ramanagara district, about 40km from Bengaluru.
They decided to take a dip in a temple tank near Ravagondlu Betta and left the tank after the picnic. The group realized much later that Vishwas was missing. However, by the time they reached the spot it had already been an hour and his body was nowhere to be found.
The photograph shows Vishwas drowning – only his hair is visible on the surface of the tank – as the rest of the group smiles for the camera.

The two largest cities in Canada. Just about 547 kilometers, or 340 miles, apart from each other. While the two cities are dynamic, cosmopolitan, global cities with amazing attractions, both are quite different.
Let’s start with the language. French is the primary language of Montreal, while English is the primary language of Toronto. But wait Mr. Beat. Aren’t both English and French official languages in Canada? Well, yeah, but Montreal is in Quebec (I know, I know also pronounced KUH- bek or KEH-bek), which is the only province where the majority of residents speak French. But have no fear English-speaking peoples. More than 59% of Montreal residents can speak both English and French. Less than 1% of folks who live in Toronto mostly speak French, although most Toronto residents know at least some French, or at least they were supposed to learn it in school. Pay attention in school, kids.
Why the language difference? Well let’s get into some history.
Montreal is 151 years older than Toronto. Woah dude. Montreal began as a fort called Ville-Marie. French settlers founded Ville-Marie on May 17, 1642 to help expand its colonial empire, New France. In those early years, Ville-Marie became a major center for the fur trade and made lots of money for France until France lost it in 1760 to the British army in the Seven Years’ War. After the British moved in, THEY made lots of money in the fur trade.
Meanwhile, the British established the Province of Upper Canada. Its first Lieutenant-Governor, a dude named John Graves Simcoe, established what would become Toronto on August 27, 1793. He named it York, to kiss King George’s butt, since the Duke of York was King George’s son. It was meant to be the temporary capital of Upper Canada, but folks liked it so much it ended up becoming the permanent capital. During the War of 1812, American troops attacked the fort which protected York, called Fort York of course.

Visit with a couple of seniors from the Melfort area of Saskatchewan as they fire up and demonstrate a snow plow that they built for municipal road work in the late 1950's. The snowplow club made up of area farmers where responsible for keeping 56 miles of roads open for the winter, attached a Richardson Snow plow onto the front of a 1938 Massey Harris 20 combine. The farmers donated the unique snow plow to the Melfort District Museum.

Thru the Gift Shop we are exploring
the Pitt Meadows Museum and Archives
the museum is housed in the heritage
building behind me this is known
as the general store and was constructed
in 1885 and moved to its present
location in 1908
the building was used as a general store
until 1931 when it moved to a larger
location but the building continued to
be used as a the post office and
residence and storage facility until 1944
the building was designated a historical
site in 1989 but remained unoccupied
until the 1990s when it was turned over
to the District of Pitt Meadows at that
time the Pitt Meadows Heritage Society
undertook its restoration and this
became the primary location of the Pitt
Meadows Museum and Archives

the museum has made use of every
available space meaning that there is a
large collection of items everywhere you
look you can find something of interest
also in the museum are a number of
photographs of early settlers from the
area you'll recognize a number of the
names street names which relate to the
families that used to have farms
Hoffman's we have the McMyns there is
a street named after the McMyns up
here Bonsons
and of course Wellington and Mary Jane
Harris which is the main street here in
Pitt Meadows is named after the Harris family

of up to four people will be able to try
to solve puzzles and find their way out
within a limited amount of time this
is opening soon so we're going to have

& Sons garage and machine shop the

collection of vintage shop equipment and

4K - R700 at the Roseworthy Miniature Railway September 2018
Here we see Kym Harris' superb 7-1/4 inch gauge model R700, a 4-6-4 Hudson modelled upon the famous R class Hudsons of the Victorian Railways introduced in 1951. A detailed locomotive profile has also been included in this production as well as other details.
The locomotive is seen running at the Roseworthy Miniature Railway in South Australia about an hour North of the Adelaide CBD.
