Harry's Cafe De Wheels Ayala Malls Solenad Sta. Rosa Philippines Now Open by HourPhilippines.com
Harry's Cafe De Wheels Ayala Malls Solenad Sta. Rosa Philippines Now Open. Harry’s Café de Wheels is a Sydney brand over 70 years old and home of Sydney's iconic meat pie and hotdogs, and also offers all-day breakfasts, poutine, country style chicken, desserts and a lot of heart warming meals. They have maintained a tradition of serving fresh pies daily and opened the first international franchise in the Ayala Malls Solenad in Sta. Rosa Laguna in September 2015. It was first opened in 1945 by Harry Edwards as a caravan at the front gates of the Woolloomooloo naval dockyard in Sydney and frequented by sailors, soldiers, cabbies, starlets and coppers.
The phrase ‘Café de Wheels’ came about as the city council of the day insisted that mobile food caravans move a minimum of 12 inches a day. Harry ceremoniously obeyed and thus the name was expanded to Harry’s Café de Wheels. Before the councils ruling, the caravan was known simply as ‘Harry’s.’
The business has since been sold to and current owner Michael Hannah a Sydney born WW2 veteran.
As the years have passed, Harry’s has become a ‘must’ for visiting celebrities. Harry’s has served up the likes of Frank Sinatra, Marelene Dietrich, Sir Richard Branson, Russell Crowe, Kevin Costner, Brook Shields, Jerry Lewis, Billy Crystal, Pamela Anderson, Adrian Greiner and Anthony Bourdain. Harry’s has cafe’s in Woolloomooloo, Bondi Beach, Newcastle, Haymarket, Liverpool, Parramatta, Tempe, Burwood, Broadway and Penrith with new locations opening.
The first international branch opened in the Philippines at the Ayala Malls Solenad on August 2015 and has now become a staple whenever we visit. Highly recommended are their Tiger Beef Pie with mushy peas, mashed potatoes and gravy – Yum! Their pies have a light and flaky crust with a delicious beef filling. Also must tries are their Goldcoast Dog made with sheep intestine, and Sausage Roll.

Harry's Cafe de Wheels - Gary Sleeman
This video contains 5 radio commercials for the Harry's Cafe de Wheels outlet in Forster, Australia. They are consecutive, and range in length between 45 and 30 seconds. I organised Gary Sleeman to write the commercials for Harry's owner Michael Hannah. Gary is a multi-award winning radio radio comedy writer, based in Newcastle. Synchronicity... :)
The cast of characters includes Dad, Dave, Harry's, the dunny (penthouse) and Doreen, the missing tattooed sister. Have fun.

Harry's Cafe de Wheels is an iconic pie cart located in Woolloomooloo on Cowper Wharf Road, near the Finger Wharf and Fleet Base East of Garden Island Navy Base, opposite the Woolloomooloo Bay Hotel. It is best known for its Tiger Pie named after the original founder.
The site is considered a Sydney icon and an institution in the local area. The significance of the location is reflected by its inclusion on the NSW National Trust register. Harry's Cafe de Wheels is a moveable food van with a hung awning. It has been moved a number of times in its history but is now permanently fixed on a masonry base. The caravan walls have been decorated with custom painted murals by Alan Puckett, a motoring art specialist. The inside walls of the cart are decorated with pictures and murals of famous visitors. Harry's original Pie Cart is housed in the Powerhouse Museum collection. Harry's pies are supplied from Hannah's Pies, its factory in the inner city suburb of Ultimo.
Harry Tiger Edwards opened the original caravan cafe, named simply Harry's, near the gates of the Woolloomooloo Naval Yard in 1938. He served with the AIF in WW2 during which time the cafe was not operational. The cart re-opened upon his return from the war in 1945. The name Cafe de Wheels came about because of a council requirement that mobile food caravans had to move a minimum of 12 inches (30 cm) each day. The cart has been moved by the city council five times over the past 55 years, and is now back at its original spot. Local legend tells that the name was temporarily changed to Cafe de Axle at one point when the wheels were stolen. It was referred to as Harry the Axle's for most of the sixties throughout the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney.
As the years passed, Harry's Cafe de Wheels gained new fame as a tourist attraction. A visit to the caravan became a 'must' for visiting celebrities such as Frank Sinatra, Robert Mitchum and Marlene Dietrich. In 1974 Colonel Sanders stopped at Harry's and enjoyed the food so much that he ate three 'pies and peas' while leaning on his walking stick in front of the caravan. A picture of Sanders taken during the visit still hangs in the caravan today.
Harry's specialises in the same basic food that was popular back in the 1940s, such as pies and mushy peas. During the late sixties Harry's introduced hot dogs mostly to appease the American sailors on R&R leave in Sydney from Vietnam.
Harry's current menu includes:
The famous Tiger pie
Bacon and Cheese Tiger
Veggie Tiger
Pie and Peas
Seafood Pie
Hot Dog with veggies
Hot Dog de Wheels
Chilli Dog
