Dave the Potter
David Drake was an enslaved African American in Edgefield, South Carolina during the first three quarters of the nineteenth century. He’s known today for the magnificent quality of the pots he made, the size of the pots, and he wrote poems on some of his pots—during an era when it was a crime for slaves to know how to read and write.

UFOs Off the North Carolina Coast || ViralHog
Occurred on November 20, 2018 / Cape Lookout National Seashore, North Carolina
I was fishing on the beach at Cape Lookout on the evening of Tuesday, November 20 around 8PM and was there about an hour with nothing unusual happening. Around 9PM I rebaited my hooks, cast them out into the surf, and walked back to my chair. When I turned back to the ocean, I saw a light in the sky. The light is very bright, stationary, and silent. Over the course of the next hour it faded in and out, as well as sometimes becoming multiple lights. Once it went away completely for about 20 minutes and then reappeared much closer to my position. This video is from that time range. Again, once it appeared, it would fade in and out and become up to four lights at once, but never changed its overall position.

17-Year-Old Recounts Shark Attack
Paige Winter is lucky to be alive after she was attacked by a shark earlier this month in North Carolina. The 17-year-old was at the beach at Fort Macon State Park in North Carolina with family when the unthinkable happened and a shark bit down on her leg. The teen said she wants people to see how she is OK. I am still going to do all of the stuff they can do. I am going to be able to walk, I am going to be able to write. I am still the same old Paige,” she said.

STORYLINE:
Tropical Storm Hanna picked up speed on Friday as it cruised toward the US states of North and South Carolina, promising to deliver gusty winds and heavy rain during a dash up the Eastern Seaboard that could wash out the weekend for millions of people.
High tide came in midday and rolled all the way up to the dunes along parts of Myrtle Beach, one of South Carolina's most popular tourist destinations, drawing hundreds of people to gawk and walk along the shore.
Streets in some spots were flooded by late afternoon and winds were expected to pick up later in the night, but emergency officials have only urged evacuations or opened shelters for Hanna in a few areas of the Carolinas.
Surfers in Myrtle Beach took advantage of the heavy waves ahead of the storm.
I was catching some waves. There's some big waves, too. Some barrels. They're awesome, said Ahmed Laguetear.
Fellow surfer, T.J. Spivey said the weather was resulting in great surfing conditions.
When the National Guard shows up with machine guns and pull you out of the water. That's when you know it's too big.
Several inches of rain were expected in the Carolinas, as well as central Virginia, Maryland and southeastern Pennsylvania.
Some spots could see up to 10 inches (25 centimetres), and forecasters warned of the potential for flash flooding in the northern mid-Atlantic states and southern New England.
Forecasters said there was only a small chance that Hanna could become a hurricane, and most people simply planned to stay off the roads until the storm passed.
Yeah, we're just going to ride it out. We leaving Sunday, so we're just going to ride it out until it's over. They say it ain't going to be too bad, said tourist Cody Case.
Hanna was expected to blow ashore between Myrtle Beach and Charleston overnight, then race up the Atlantic Coast, reaching New England by Sunday morning.
The storm has already caused widespread flooding and at least 137 deaths in Haiti.
Tropical storm watches or warnings ran from Georgia to Massachusetts, and included all of Chesapeake Bay, the Washington, D.C., area and Long Island.
Not far behind Hanna was a much bigger worry: a ferocious-looking Hurricane Ike, on a path similar to the one taken by Andrew, the Category 5 monster that devastated South Florida in 1992.
Ike could hit Florida by the middle of next week.
