A video tour of Bakewell and the peak district national park in Derbyshire
Derbyshire's peak district National Park covers an area of 555 square miles (or 1437 km2) and is set between the cities of Manchester and Sheffield to the North and Stoke on Trent and Derby in the South. It's a country of rolling hills and valleys with some of the most beautiful scenery England has to offer.
The video takes us on a tour starting with Padley Gorge, just outside Sheffield's city limits and then onto Bakewell, with its popular Monday Market. Ten minutes drive takes you to the picture post card village of Ashford on the Water and then onto Monsal head, reputedly the best view in the Peak District and Monsal Dale
The Hope Valley is home to the small village of Castleton and here you will find many of the shops selling jewellery and artefacts made from 'Blue John', mineral stone that was mined in the numerous caves around the village. Just outside Castleton is Mam Tor, scene of the largest landslip in Europe. The video finishes with a visit to the three reservoirs of Lady Bower, Derwent and Howden. It was here that the Dam Busters practiced for the raids on Germany during WW11. From here, a short journey over Snake Pass will bring you to the city of Manchester.

Lowfields Farm is a lovely large farmhouse in a courtyard, near the owner?s own home in Middleton-by-Youlgreave near Bakewell, this farmhouse is set in its own lovely garden and can sleep 18 people. This cottage has a double with an en-suite bathroom, a four poster king-size double with basin, a ground floor four poster king-size double, a ground floor king-size double, a twin, a family room with a king-size double and two singles and another family room with a king-size double, a day bed and pull-out single bed. The cottage also has three shower rooms (one on ground floor), a kitchen with dining area, a dining room with open fire, a utility, a conservatory and a sitting room with woodburning stove. Outside there is ample off road parking and a lawned garden with patio and furniture. Lowfields Farm is a wonderful holiday base.

Hartington - Peak District Villages
Village Guide - Hartington. Hartington lies to the west of the A515 Ashbourne to Buxton road and nestles sedately in the heart of magnificent limestone scenery on the Derbyshire side of the River Dove, which marks the border with neighbouring Staffordshire. Known as `The Gateway to Dovedale` this most picturesque of White Peak villages boasts a wealth of attractions to the visitor and is famous for it`s Stilton cheese; indeed it held a Royal Warrant during the reign of George V for supplying the King`s Stilton! Cheese making, farming, and the tourist industry drive the village`s economy, and this is evidenced by an array of retail establishments which surround the former market square, village green, and duck - pond in the centre of the village. With the exception of Derby & Chesterfield, Hartington was the first in the County to be granted a Market Charter when in 1203 William de Ferrers, Earl of Derby & Lord of the Manor of Hartington was granted a Royal Charter to hold a weekly market and an annual fair. The Launch Of A Trio Of Videos From Peak District Online - A Treat & A Triumph of Derbyshire Delight!
Peak District TV are very proud to launch their brand new triumvirate of TV holiday destinations, all celebrating the White Peak - by day and by night, with poetry and perfectly poised music. Put your feet up and escape for a while.
'December in Hartington' begins with the promise of something special- a Peak District video with a difference this time, with the calm soothing voice of a poet dictating his story. The poem depicts the silence of the night and it is refreshing to see Hartington at peace and in the dark. Gone are the sightseers and the walkers, the crowds of people who flock to see the chocolate box village in the day. Slightly spooky but never full on scary, viewing the village so quiet and in the dead of night is to see a sight only the residents can cherish. As dawn approaches, we feel the true time of year unfold in the frost covered patchwork fields, the winter mist shrouding the village as the valley gently slopes around it, enveloping Hartington in its warm arms.

And then we discover a lesser-known part of the Derbyshire Dales, basking in the sunlight in the second video today. The drama of the White Peak is portrayed here- a little place called Wolfscote Dale. With its sheer ivory walls rising dramatically above the meandering river below, it's hard to equate the ferocious name to such a serene part of the Peak District. With mysterious caves, grassy knolls and copses of trees stood proud, bewildering us how they cling on to the limestone so old, it's a Dale that's a stage set for at walker's pleasure. To wander along the river, sometimes fierce in Winter, it's stroll of pleasure on a warm Summer's day.

Tissington Hall in all its glory is the first thing we see in the third video, all about a little village with trail attached to its name. Like a scene out of a Brontë novel, the hall is made up of the limestone which makes this part of Derbyshire so resplendent. Considered to be one of the most picturesque villages in Britain, the video certainly highlights its merits for all to see. It would be quite easy to imagine the gentry driving past in bygone days, in horse and carriage - the village doesn't seem to have fully embraced its time. With tradition still ongoing, Tissington is an evocative place to make your own memories now.
With treble the ambience and thrice the flavour - these are three videos to tantalise the taste buds! See the White Peak in all its alabaster majesty -we hope you enjoy the treat.
