076: Historic Pike of Hartshead (Hartshead Pike, Park Bridge and Rocher Vale)
TAMESIDE WALK FEATURING HARTSHEAD PIKE, KNOTT HILL, PARK BRIDGE AND ROCHER VALE
Historic Pike of Hartshead”
Filmed 22nd April 2017
Running time: 20 minutes
My recent fascination with walks featuring monuments or towers leads me to discover Hartshead Pike. This pretty hill in the Borough of Tameside in Greater Manchester has a small tower on its top, so I work out a walk starting and ending here. I see a little of the industrial past of Tameside as my walk takes me to a disused ironworks, now a heritage centre, before returning to the point of interest that drew me to this area…..
Filmed in the county of Greater Manchester. Locations include Hartshead Pike, Knott Hill, Park Bridge Heritage Centre and Rocher Vale.
Written, researched, directed, camera and sound, edited and music by Patrick Leach.
Any other names credited in this film, i.e. Bob Morgan and Martin Roy, are pseudonyms, which I used at the time of making this film. However, I no longer use these pseudonyms as I want viewers to be clear that my films are completely my own work.

During the Roman occupation of Britain, a warning beacon for local garrisons, possibly lit during times of unrest, may have been sited on Hartshead Pike. Local trackways were routes for the Romans to access the Roman road at Limeside.
The name refers to the hill and the tower. The tower is not on the highest part of the hill, but its prominent position 940 feet (290 m) above sea level, from early times it has been the site of a beacon or signalling station and may have been the site of a beacon in the late 16th century.

Drone flight recorded in 360 degrees above Mossley
I attached my Ricoh Theta S camera to my Dji F450 drone and took it up. You can see all around in 360 degrees. This is my first flight with the camera so some tweaking needs doing to take out any vibrations. So far so good though! Let me know what you think! :D
