Costumed processions with effigies of political leaders paraded through the English county town of Lewes on Tuesday night marking the anniversary of Guy Fawkes Night.
Footage shows the torch-lit procession including cross-burning and fireworks, alongside giant satirical effigies or 'Guys', including current British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, and Member of Parliament Jacob Rees-Mogg.
On November 5, the UK commemorates the failed Gunpowder Plot of 1605, when English Catholics led by Guy Fawkes attempted to blow up the Houses of Parliament and kill King James I.

Built in 1682. A Traditional Old English Pub

The original Waterman's pub was next to a sawmill in Kings Stable Street, back then the street also housed Royal carriages and horses for Windsor Castle.
REAL ALES
We have been awarded the Cask Marque, the sign of a great pint. We have a wide selection of real ales, regularly featuring the Windsor and Eton Brewery, Hobgoblin, Skinners Cornish Knocker, Brakspear and many local and national independent breweries.
You should have no trouble finding the perfect pint to enjoy while you relax in our traditional bar or beer garden.
We regularly hold themed beer & cider festivals.

One UK town begins printing its own money

Lewes is a town that's been known for it's strong independent spirit. I mean it's probably no coincidence that Tom Paine, who was one of the great minds behind the American revolution, spent a lot of his key years in Lewes before going over to the States.

I got Rick's Discs today. He first thought I was trying to make money out of him. So where's the scam? And I said no, it's all voluntary and yes so he signed up as well.

The mechanism itself is very simple. The mechanism itself is probably comparable to a book token. It's just a token that has certain value that you can use in stores. Those stores can give it back as change or can trade it at a number of differing issue points. It's a very simple mechanism.

People can only spend it within local independent shops. When they look in their purse and see what money they've got hopefully they'll say..Mmmm I've got some Lewes Pounds. I really ought to think about where I can buy whatever it is I want in a shop that takes the local currency.
17. SOUNDBITE (ENGLISH) Olive Dudok Van Heel, The Lewes Pound
Promoting local trade means promoting local supply of goods and services. Therefore goods and services have to travel less far, so there is a reduced carbon footprint.

We try and source local produce, use local farms. And Lewes has got a very strong community feeling. So to have the pound, the Lewes pound you know, it really helps farmers producers and us. It basically ties in with our whole idea of sourcing locally.

It's a very good idea. If it stimulates the local economy, most of all it stimulates local produce coming into the economy, fantastic.

Well anything that involves Lewes is automatically suited to Harvey's. We're a mainstay of the town. But more than that we're very into sustainability from the environmental point of view. We've got lots of environmental credentials, we keep our beer very local no more than 30 miles from Lewes for most of our beer.
