Haunting History of ~Harvington Hall, Harvington ,Worcestershire,England
A former owner of the building in the seventeenth century, Mary has been named as the ghostly elderly woman seen by several people on the site. She is also said to appear at a crossroads outside the park, the site where legend has it she was hanged for witchcraft. Back in the hall, other people have reported a phantom old man with a pipe and an Edwardian woman.
In 1998 a party of schoolgirls believed they spotted the ghostly figure of an elderly woman at Harvington Hall, and two from a group of historical re-enactors staying at the hall in 1992 said they were awoken by a shadow, which passed through the keyhole of their room while the door was locked.
Also a 14-year-old boy on a school trip told the hall guides he had seen the face of a white figure looking out of the north tower, which was the curator's room and was not open to the public.
One guide investigated and found all the doors locked so no-one could have gained access.
Harvington Hall belonged to the Protestant Pakington family. It was constructed by Humphrey Packington, during the 1580’s. Mary Pakington, daughter of Humphrey, came into possession of Harvington Hall upon his death on August 6, 1531. She became Catholic upon her marriage to Sir John Yate. In 1647 it was pillaged by Roundhead troops. During the 19th Century it was stripped of furniture and paneling and the shell was left almost derelict. The Hall later passed by marriage to the Throckmorton family from nearby Coughton Court.
Harvington Hall belongs to the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Birmingham and is particularly notable for its vestment-hide and seven priest-holes, four of which are built around the main staircase and are thought to be the work of Nicholas Owen. The false fireplace in the Marble Room led to two hides in the attics. An altar stone is said to have been discovered in a secret recess in one of the angle turrets.
Harvington Hall was given to the Archdiocese of Birmingham by Ellen Ferris (1870–1955), whose son Robert was Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons from 1970 to 1974 and later became Lord Harvington.

The mass haunting of Harvington Hall : The Ghost of Lady Mary Yates
A site survey of the haunted hall. Harvington Hall is situated in the village of Harvington, near Kidderminster, Worcestershire, England. Originally a moated Medieval Manor House, built at some point in the 1300s. It was later extended in the 1580s to become the Elizabethan Hall it is today. It has witnessed some turbulent times during its 700 years of history : during The Reformation it was a centre for sheltering catholic priests ( it has 7 Priest Holes ) and in 1644 it was raided and pillaged by Roundhead soldiers of Cromwell's republican New Model Army. Today it is a centre for tourism and is open for public access - though on the day of filming it was closed.
Harvington Hall is a site of mass haunting. Notable Ghosts include an old man smoking a pipe, and an Edwardian lady. However the most famous Ghost is that of a previous owner Lady Mary Yates. She lived and owned Harvington Hall during the 1600s, including the period of The English Civil War when the hall was sacked by Roundheads. Her Ghost appears as an old lady, haunting both the hall and the grounds. The Ghost of Lady Yates has not been seen for decades but is still a current Haunting.
Note - There is another Ghost who haunts the edges of Harvington Hall grounds, in the village of Mustow Green, at the crossroads. The site of a Witch execution. Many times over the years it has been falsely reported that this Witch was Lady Yates herself, hung for practising Witchcraft. This is untrue. The Witch was named Mistress Hicks, and was executed in the early 1700s, after Lady Yates was dead.

Harvington Hall Farm Heritage Windows Case Study
Heritage windows fitted to Harvington Hall Farm, part of the 14th Century Havington Hall estate near Kidderminster - read the full case study here:
Harvington Hall Farmhouse is a Grade II listed building. It is the farmhouse attached to the estate of Harvington Hall, a Grade I listed moated manor house of exceptional beauty.
The original windows of the farm house were rotten beyond repair. A grade listed building would need heritage windows that were approved by the local planning authority. Here at Gowercroft.co.uk we produce heritage windows with Pilkington SpaciaTM ultra slim vacuum double glazing.
Vacuum double glazing is highly efficient and it's slimline profile makes it ideal for heritage window projects where it's important to emulate the single glazed units that would have been originally fitted to a seventeenth century farm house.
Gowercroft are one of 6 authorised dealers for Pilkington SpaciaTM which is the first commercial vacuum double glazing available in the UK.
Since installing the double glazed heritage windows the owner Chris has noticed that his home no longer smells damp and musty, and it is a lot warmer too!
If you would like to read the full case study please visit the original post here:
If you have a heritage window project and you would like our help in designing, building and fitting double glazed heritage windows, plus assistance with obtaining the proper planning permissions, read more about our heritage windows here or call us on 01773 300510
Howick Hall Gardens
Howick Hall isn't open to the public but the beautiful gardens are worth a visit.
Howick was the family home of the Grey family from 1319 until the death of the 5th Earl Grey in 1963 when it was then passed to his eldest daughter, Lady Mary Howick, and then to his grandson, the present Lord Howick of Glendale. The gardens are primarily the work of Charles, 5th Earl Grey, his wife Mabel, and their daughter Lady Mary Howick between 1920 and 2001.
Earl Grey Tea was specially blended by a Chinese mandarin for Charles, 2nd Earl Grey, to suit the water from the well at Howick. Suitable for Children and Family viewing

Our day trip! Harvington Hall, an Elizabethan House (Family vlog)
Vlog (and my first proper video editing project, hope you like it!) footage of mine and Ellie's first trip to Harvington Hall, in the West Midlands, England. We loved it, though Ellie kept freaking out at how creaky the steps and floorboards were!
This amazing house is full of volunteers who are dressed up as various Elizabethan characters, and who are really friendly and knowledgeable about aspects of Elizabethan life.
What really blew me away was the fact this house is still full of the concealed 'hides' (hiding places for Priests, who were persecuted in those days) and many of these were really innovative for the time. Secret sliding doorways and hollow steps leading down to hiding places etc. Just amazing.
Hopefully you can see from the footage how amazing this place is, and what a great time me and my daughter had. We'd visit again very soon!
