Harz Mountain Railway - February 2015
My wife and I paid our second visit to the Harz Mountains during the last week of February 2015 and after quite warm conditions in 2014, this time the weather was much colder and snow from earlier in the month was still on the ground at the higher levels. Snow fell again when we were there which made for near perfect conditions.
This video includes scenes filmed over the week between Wernigerode, Drei Annen Hohne, Schierke and the Brocken and includes two special trains hauled by 99 6001 and Mallet 99 5906 as well as the normal service trains hauled by the 99 72xx 2-10-2 locomotives. Final scenes back at the shed in Wernigerode.

Harz Mountain Railway - February 2014 Part One
This video results from my first, but most definitely not the last, visit to the wonderful Harz Mountains in Germany. It is not quite the video I was hoping to upload as a dreaded 'card error' message appeared on my camera screen after two days and it appeared I had lost all the footage from those days due to a corrupted SD card. I abandoned plans to visit other parts of the network including the Selketalbahn and set about recreating some of the lost shots concentrating on the Brockenbahn which runs to the top of the Brocken, the highest peak in the Harz Mountains at 1125 metres. However in the course of uploading this lengthy video I have now managed to recover the lost files with a free program called Photo Rec, which I can highly recommend, and these will form the basis of another video featuring a number of special trains from the Saturday and some night scenes at Wernigerode shed together with additional Brockenbahn and Harzquerbahn scenes. So, this video covers the journey from Wernigerode to the Brocken by way of Drei Annen Hohne and Schierke and includes onboard as well as lineside footage.

To the top of the Harz Mountains in a beautiful snowy landscape!
The Brocken is the highest mountain of the Harz Mountains. It's 1142 meters high and there is a narrow gauge railway to its top. The Brockenbahn, part of the Harzer Schmalspurbahnen, is very nice in summer and in winter. There is a classic train pulled by 1897, 1898, 1918 build Mallet steam engine. But also the regularly trains are pulled by steam locomotives. This film is made in December 2010 and there was fantastic weather.
Now enjoy the film, the fantastic weather and the sound of the steam engines

Harz Railway Part 1
Harz Railway Parts 1, 2 & 3
Footage taken during June 2014 on my first visit to the Harz. The opening shot is of The Brocken, at 3743 ft, the highest part of the Harz Mountains and the destination of most trains from Wernigerode.
Scenes then follow of the 2-10-2T and Mallet locos at the locomotive depot and around Wernigerode.
Next come shots from the train to Drei Annen Hohne followed by footage around the busy junction at Drei Annen Hohne itself.
In part 3 are shots taken at The Brocken and around Shierke.
Apologies for the odd off-vertical shot when the tripod is not being used. Although the weather during the visit was excellent, the high temperatures meant little steam/smoke was forthcoming. Future visits will concentrate on the more isolated, steeply graded, sections of the line away from the stations.
