Ilısu Barajı'nda su tutma işlemleri için hazırlıklara başlandı. Hasankeyf'e suların en geç önümüzdeki yıl ulaşması bekleniyor. Bu süreçte ise evleri ve iş yerleri sular altında kalacak Hasankeyflilerin yaşayabilmesi için yeni yerleşim yeri, yol ve köprü gibi çalışmalar bitirilmeye çalışılıyor. Ancak geçen süreç, beraberinde mağduriyetler de getirmiş.

Finally outside of Hasankeyf. Out of the bus for an introduction by the Tigris River and long distance views of this soon to be doomed village. Remains of the citadel and small palace were easily visible across the Tigris River on top of the cliff.
Hasankeyf has been settled for approximately 3,000 years and inhabited by the Assyrians, Urartians, followed by Roman, Byzantine, Turkic and Arabic dynasties. Visit within the next 20 years before Hasankeyf is completely submerged by the new dam.

Un video, grabado este sábado, muestra el último registro visual de la antigua ciudad turca de Hasankeyf, en la provincia de Batman, que pronto será inundada por el embalse de la presa de Ilisu, en el río Tigris.

But the controversial project threatens the ancient settlement of Hasankeyf - home to 3,000 inhabitants - with destruction.

After decades of legal wrangling, Turkish authorities have begun flooding a 12,000-year-old town as part of a dam project to power the region. Hasankeyf is one of the oldest sites of continuous human settlement on Earth. Its some 3,000 residents say they are devastated about leaving both their legacy and livelihood behind. FRANCE 24's correspondents Shona Bhattacharyya and Ludovic de Foucaud report.

Historic mosque moved out of Turkey's ancient town before dam waters rise
Turkey began relocating a historic mosque on Monday (December 16) from the ancient town of Hasankeyf that will soon be underwater as part of a controversial dam project.
Built in 15th century, Er Rizk Mosque is the last structure to be relocated from 12,000-year-old Hasankeyf before the ancient town is fully submerged by the floodwaters of Turkey's fourth biggest dam, Ilisu.
Turkey started to fill the dam further downstream on the Tigris in July where villages have already been vacated and are now partially submerged. Water is expected to start rising in Hasankeyf, located in the southeastern province of Batman, in the next few months.
In a bid to attract tourists to the area, eight historic structures, including a massive tomb, an ancient Turkish bath and Er Rizk Mosque are being moved from the old town to Yeni Hasankeyf.
Authorities said the mosque will be relocated in four parts and the first part was transported on Monday.
The Ilisu Dam, expected to be operational for 50 years, will generate 1,200 megawatts of electricity, making it Turkey's fourth-largest dam in terms of energy production. But it has been criticised by activists who say the dam, once completely filled, will have displaced 78,000 people from 199 surrounding villages and risks creating water shortages downstream in Iraq.
Hasankeyf was used by the Romans as a fortress town to ward off the Persians. The town was later destroyed by the Mongols and rebuilt in the 11th century by Seljuk Turks.

Footage filmed on Saturday shows the last images of the ancient Turkish town of Hasankeyf in Batman Province that will soon be inundated following the filling of the Ilisu Dam reservoir on the Tigris river.
The ancient city has been dated back to 12,000 years ago, based on neolithic remains found at the site.
The dam, which is part of the South-eastern Anatolian Project (GAP), will reportedly generate some 1,200 megawatts of electricity.
It has however drawn criticism in Turkey and Iraq, as it is expected to displace thousands of people and submerge Hasankeyf when it is filled, reportedly on June 10.
In 1978, Hasankeyf, which sits on banks of the Tigris river, and the surrounding area was declared a 'First Degree Archaeological Site' by Turkey's Supreme Board of Monuments.
