Hassocks Circular Ride 4 (Burgess Hill Green Route, Goddards Green, Hurstpierpoint College)
British Cycling's Breeze network encourages more women to cycle (3 times more men than women currently cycle in the UK). Trained Breeze Champions lead women only rides to help close the gap between men and women cyclists.
On 7 October 2012, Sally and Alison, 2 Breeze Champions, will lead an 8 mile loop ride around Hassocks in Sussex, UK.
The ride is offered to promote the Hassocks Circular Cycle Routes, and you can hire mountain bikes from HCCH (Hassocks Community Cycle Hire).
This video shows video footage from a pre-ride of Route 4, which we'll be doing on 7 October (2pm to 4pm).

Alison & Sally ride Hassocks Area Circular Cycle Route One
Sally and Alison are British Cycling Breeze Champions, leading free women-only rides near their homes in Sussex. Every month, they lead a ride using one of the circular cycle routes from the visithassocks website. All these rides start and finish at the Hassocks Community Cycle Hire (HCCH), in the car park of the Hassocks Hotel (next to Hassocks railway station).
The first of these rides was on route one; 8 miles around Hassocks, Ditchling, and Clayton. This ride will be repeated on Sunday, 11 November 2012. To help women get an idea of the ride before booking, Alison and Sally decided to make a video as they rode the route on their own. They hope you enjoy watching the video as much as they enjoyed riding the route!

British Cycling Breeze ride for Hassocks Fun Day on 8 September 2012
British Cycling's Breeze network encourages more women to cycle (3 times more men than women currently cycle in the UK). Trained Breeze Champions lead women only rides to help close the gap between men and women cyclists.
On 8 September 2012, 5 intrepid women and 2 Breeze Champions rode an 8 mile loop ride around Hassocks in Sussex, UK.
The ride was offered as part of Hassocks' annual Fun Day at the Hassocks Hotel, and we hired mountain bikes from HCCH (Hassocks Community Cycle Hire).
This video shows both photos and video footage from the afternoon's 2 hour ride.

Post Chrimble Calorie-Burner (Breeze Hassocks bike ride) 13 January 2013
On 13 January 2013, three intrepid women braved the cold to join Alison and Sally (Breeze Champions trained by British Cycling to lead women-only rides) on a ride through the Sussex countryside. We started and finished at the Hassocks Community Cycle Hire, beside the Hassocks Hotel.
To finish the ride, we were joined by friends and partners for a delicious Sunday lunch in The Hassocks Hotel.
We lead monthly Breeze rides around Hassocks, basing the rides on one of the 5 pre-mapped routes available here:
The ride in this video is based on route 2, but replacing the muddy off-road sections with road, and bypassing the busy Hurstpierpoint High Street (taking the ride to a total 14 miles).

Hassocks Breeze Ride 1 December 2012
Breeze rides are free women only bike rides organised by British Cycling to close the gap between men and women (3 times more men than women cycle for leisure in the UK).
Sally and Alison, Breeze ride leaders trained by British Cycling, are leading monthly rides around Hassocks in Sussex, using the routes suggested by visithassocks, and starting at the Hassocks Community Cycle Hire (HCCH) bike hut in the car park of The Hassocks Hotel, next to Hassocks train station.
The ride on 1 December mainly followed Route 2 from the Hassocks Area Circular Cycle Routes (available from visithassocks.co.uk). Sally and Alison amended the route slightly to avoid the off-road sections and busy High Street in Hurstpierpoint. The final route was 13.7 miles and took the riders through Hassocks, Goddards Green, Twineham, Sayers Common, and Hurstpierpoint.
4 women (Holly, Judi, Janie, and Caroline) joined their ride leaders Sally and Alison to enjoy a frosty, misty, and sunny ride along quiet country lanes and finish with lunch in the Hassocks Hotel.
This ride will be repeated on Sunday, 13 January 2013 (The Hassocks Hotel does a splendid and good value Sunday roast, so we'll be finishing our ride with that!). To register for that ride, go here:
Hassocks Breeze pre-ride by Sally & Alison (Variations on Route 2)
Sally and Alison lead Breeze rides - free women-only bike rides organised by British Cycling to close the gap between men and women (three times more men than women ride bike for leisure). They've been leading monthly part-on part-off road rides around Hassocks in Sussex, using the routes mapped out on the 'Visit Hassocks' website (visithassocks.co.uk).
Now that we're entering winter though, the off-road sections are becoming very muddy and may put off some women who are returning to cycling after a long break. Besides, it's pain having to get the hosepipe out to clean the bike after a ride!
Sally and Alison decided to pre-ride Route 2 (12 miles, taking in Hassocks, Goddards Green, Twineham, Sayers Common and Hurstpierpoint) and find alternative, on-road, sections for the muddy sections. Whilst they were at it, they found ways of avoiding some of the busier roads that might also put nervous cyclists off.
Here's the result!
You can book on this ride (leaving Hassocks Community Cycle Hire - HCCH - hut, next to Hassocks Hotel at 10:30am Saturday, 1 December 2012) here:
Our plan is to get back to the Hassocks Hotel in time for lunch - or just a drink for those that prefer.
If you need to hire a bike, please contact the HCCH (website: or phone on 07521 961 909).
Hassocks Breeze ride (Valentines special) on 17 Feb 2013
The monthly Breeze (British Cycling women only) rides starting out from the HCCH (Hassocks Community Cycle Hire) in Hassocks have started to get some regular riders. We had a 'Valentines special' on 17 February 2013, where the Breeze ride leaders, Mandy and Alison, dressed in romantic red and decorated their bikes with hearts.
We followed a variation of route 3 from the Hassocks Circular Cycle Routes, reversing the north-east loop of the figure of 8, and taking an on-road detour to avoid a very muddy section of off-road track past Middleton Manor.
15 miles of quiet Sussex lanes in glorious sunshine made everyone smile, and finishing with the famous Sunday lunch in The Hassocks Hotel rounded the morning off perfectly.

Breeze ride around Hassocks on 7 October 2012
Nine women joined three Breeze Champions (Sally, Mandy, and Alison) for a couple of hours ride around the cycle paths, bridleways, and quiet country lanes of Sussex on Sunday, 7 October 2012. We followed route 4 from the Hassocks Area Circular Cycle Routes (available from visithassocks.co.uk) - Burgess Hill Green Route, Goddards Green, and Hurstpierpoint College.
One of the riders hired a mountain bike from HCCH (Hassocks Community Cycle Hire) in the car park of the Hassocks Hotel next to Hassocks train station, and everyone else brought their own mountain bikes or hybrids since the route is part on and part off road.
Join us on the next Hassocks Breeze ride - 13:30 to 15:30 on Sunday, 11 November 2012 - we'll be following route 1 from the Visit Hassocks website (Hassocks, Ditchling and Clayton). Breeze rides can be found and booked on the British Cycling website (goskyride.com/breeze)
