Vancouver's Hastings Race Park: Canada's Thoroughbred Horse Racing Mecca!!
In 2012 this is the track that made international headlines when little-known Mexican-born jockey Mario Gutierrez won the track's riding titles in 2007 and 2008, and then went on to win the Santa Anita Derby, Kentucky Derby and the Preakness!!

I saw the promotional advertisement and decided to watch dachshunds race, as I thought it would be interesting to see. Once there, I learned that the Wiener Dog Races were taking place in between the regularly scheduled horse races. So, why not place a bet? Guest services gave me the information I needed and I put $1 on a Triactor Box for #1,2,3. The rest is in the video.

A good friend of mine Craig recommended going to the horse race track with the kids on our Vancouver vacation. Well it was a great choice, the kids got to see so many horses and the food was awesome. Dad had a few beers and we won a race! It's great family fun on a Sunday.

Wind Storm wins authoritatively in this 6 furlong sprint, the Derby Bar & Grill Ladies Express on Sep 25 2010. This race was one of 3 stakes races supporting the $75,000 BC Oaks race which came later in the afternoon. 'Storm was expected to close, that is, to come from the back of the pack, but in this race she stalked the early pace and took over by the stretch turn, & never looked back. She showed what it means when a fily or mare gets hot.

Hastings Park 2011 BC Cup Classic
The 2011 BC Cup Classic (also called the BC Cup Redekop Classic by some) was run Aug 1, 2011 in Vancouver over 1 & one-eighth miles. Swift Thoroughbreds' Almost Time predictably proved to be too classy for his foes. Spaghetti Mouse is way past his best years. Majesticality has had a tough 2011, finding it hard to improve / adjust to facing older horses since winning the 2010 BC Derby as a 3 yr old. Tommy Danzinger has had a terrible year. It was nice seeing the veteran Trick Of The North get 2nd money. Absent from the race were the other Hastings stars: Senor Rojo, St. Liam's Halo, & Crew Leader.

Hastings Park horse races 2010 BC Cup Classic
Run over 1 & one-eight miles, before a huge holiday crowd on Aug. 2, 2010, , this race featured Krazy Koffee , Spaghetti Mouse, Ganbei, & Trick Of The North, among others. Koffee switched tactics to become a frontrunner. But rider Chad Hoverson & the Mouse kept up the pressure. The Mouse appeared to take control of the race but couldn't match strides late with 'Trick, who benefitted from the hot early pace. 'Trick, 8 yrs old, proved once again his love of the longer distance & was well prepared by his trainer, Barbara Heads.
Vancouver- 2010 BC Derby, Hastings Park horse racing -a colossal shocker
Dismissed by many observers at odds of around 35-1, Majesticality ran a 75 beyer to post a colossal upset, winning BC's richest, most prestigious race! My sister found this guy intriguing, so I used him and the 2nd place horse, Crew Leader, as exacta key horses in saver bets, to win a $1890 exacta payoff. Now a champion, he's bred in BC, & owned by Mr. & Mrs RJ Bennett, trained by Barb Heads, & was ridden by hot rider Richard Hamel. Majesticality had sneaky good form - having bad 'trips' in his prior recent races, while still closing ground & not being used much. Apparently he had a terrible beginning in this race, too, but overcame it on a wet track he clearly relished. Unforgettable!

Vancouver -Hastings Park racing: BC Derby winner Krazy Koffee retires from racing
Krazy Koffee, 5, is paraded in front of appreciative fans at Vancouver B.C.'s Hastings Park in a ceremony marking his retirement from racing. Koffee was trained by Cindy Krasner, & his illustrious career includes winning the prestigious BC Derby in 2008. He became known as a hard-knocking horse who loved to make a mid-race move & sustain it to the wire. He was retired after his connections discovered he had health problems which had been hindering his recent performances. This was filmed on Sep. 6, 2010
