Hatchet Bay Cave Eleuthera, Bahamas(Episode 16)
A tour of the Hatchet Bay Cave in Eleuthera. Some of the carvings on the walls of the cave are from the 1800's.
About us: Our transition from working, owning a home and trying to enjoy life to living our dream of sailing the world. We moved on board our sailboat 1968 Tartan 34C in 2016 and set sail shortly afterwards. We began our trip down the ICW to the Bahamas where we plan on island hopping and see where the wind takes us.
Hatchet Bay Caves Eleuthera
Ultimate tour of Hatchet Bay's underground cave(cavern) system located in Eleuthera, Bahamas. I've been in these caverns several times over the years. Many beautiful formations such as, stalagmites, stalactites, curtains, and columns will be seen as I explore the many caverns within the system. This is probably the best video on Youtube showing the inside of this cave system. A lot of graffiti has been removed from the images shown in this video for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy!

Hatchet Bay Cave Eleuthera
Halfway through the Valley of Silos, watch for the sign. The majority of the Cave goes undeground for about a mile but requires proper gear.

Hatchet Bay Eleuthera - coming home with Capt Z
Capt Z entering Hatchet Bay harbour after a perfect day fishing for Mahi Mahi - bringing home our share of fish. In the light of day you can apppreciate the size of this almost completely landlocked anchorage. Well sheltered, just enough wind slips in to turn the wind turbine of the Canadian sailboat, lying quietly amongst a small flotilla of other expats. The big green mailboat - Current Pride - sits tied at the dock while her cargo is unloaded. The perfect place to hide from the wind, seas and whatever else need be. Speedily Spelunking The Hatchet Bay Caves For No Particular Reason Whatsoever
A speedy spelunking of the Hatchet Bay Caves from entrance to exit.
The cave is located on Eleuthera Island in the Bahamas. It is approximately 1/4 of a mile in length with another 1/2 mile of hiking that must be done to get you from the exit of the cave back to the parking area.
Hatchet Bay Cut Eleuthera, Bahamas (Episode 17)
Watch as we travel through the Hatchet Bay Cut during some rougher weather. While on top of the hill we were able to watch another sailboat go through and a large ferry. We were so glad we anchored in one of the most protected anchorages in the Bahamas.
Our transition from working, owning a home and trying to enjoy life to living our dream of sailing the world. We moved on board our sailboat 1968 Tartan 34C in 2016 and set sail shortly afterwards. Spelunking The Hatchet Bay Caves | Sailboat Story 59
After sailing through rocky entrance to Hatchet Bay, we anchor the boat and go spelunking in the nearby caves.
Tambi doesn't like bats, spiders, or the dark. Because of her dislike of those things, I thought it was strange when she wanted to go spelunking in the caves at Hatchet Bay. So spelunking we went!
Tambi did good. In fact, all 3 of us managed to explore the caves without receiving jugular bites from any of the resident flying rodents. If that's not the measure of a successful caving experience, I don't know what is!
Let's see, what else happened in this video...
OH! We also got to check out the annual Pineapple Festival on Eleuthera. A pretty cool experience. Loads of friendly Bahamians came out to enjoy the festivities, eat some conch salad, drink a few Vita Malts, and just celebrate life. It was awesome.
While at the Pineapple Festival I was interviewed by the #1 news reporter in the Bahamas. I wish I was able to get the actual footage and audio, but I've not yet been able to track it down. Ah well.
Ok, I think that about sums it up.
Thanks for watching!!

THIS IS HOW WE DO IT IN THE BAHAMAS, HATCHET BAY, ELEUTHERA, CHUCKING A COCONUT
THIS IS HOW WE DO IT IN THE BAHAMAS, HATCHET BAY, ELEUTHERA, CHUCKING A COCONUT. This young man (Vandigo probably not spelled correctly) from Hatchet Bay, Eleuthera was busy chucking coconuts to fill his 5 gallon jug. He was amazing at climbing the trees to retrieve the coconuts.
Hatchet Bay - Eleuthera Bahamas
This is a major port, deep and well protected - a mail boat stop. A narrow 90 feet entrance was blasted through the rock creating an excellent hurricane hole and there's a lot of ex pat's boats sheltered here. There are busy days and then there are quiet days - like this one here - a Sunday.

The Silos of Hatchet Bay-Eleuthera, Bahamas
Many years ago when we had first come to Eleuthera, I saw the stone silos in Hatchet Bay dating back to the farming days and I had an idea. These were structure that had been here for many years and many hurricanes and had survived. They were iconic spots on the island and being a builder I saw an opportunity.
What I saw was a series of stone silos that had survived for many years through all kinds of hurricanes and weather. They could be adapted and turned into residences. The views would be spectacular as well as unique but as things turn out it wasn't to be.
