Hatteras Island, NC (OBX) ORV Permit
The National Park Service has started a new requirements for vehicles seeking to drive off road on Hatteras Island. Effective February of 2012, all vehicles that ride off-road must have a ORV permit. $50 dollars for the week, $120 for the year. Okay fine, another tax stamp for us all. I got over it, and was going to pay for my permit.
What makes this even worse is motorcycles are prohibited off road, reason being? Couldn't get the fellow at the permit office to give me an explanation either. Even after being on the phone, and making me wait 10 minutes while he made a phone call to a higher power to confirm motorcycles weren't allowed on the beaches. Even then, no explanation as to, the reason why? motorcycles are prohibited off-road. (On the signs before the beach access roads, there is nothing that enforces this rule)
So, everyone out there... What are your thoughts on this matter? Do you think its wrong that two wheels are prohibited? Or, is there a good explanation as to why their not allowed?
So in this vlog I rant about Hatteras Islands new policies, and my thoughts on the matter.
Feel free to comment your thoughts on this. Also, please share this with any and everybody you know who feels the same way on the mater. We need to get the word out!

Cape Hatteras Lighthouse & North Carolina Outer Banks Ferry System
Cape Hatteras lighthouse is the tallest brick lighthouse in North America! The lighthouse located on Hatteras Island in the Outer Banks in the town of Buxton, North Carolina and is part of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Our day 5 excursion starts here. The lighthouse stands at 193' high and has 257 stairs to the top. Wish me luck! After visiting the famous lighthouse we took 2 ferries, the Swan Quarter Ferry and the Hatteras Ocracoke Ferry.

The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse protects one of the most hazardous sections of the Atlantic Coast. Offshore of Cape Hatteras, the Gulf Stream collides with the Virginia Drift, a branch of the Labrador Current from Canada. This current forces southbound ships into a dangerous twelve-mile long sandbar called Diamond Shoals. Hundreds and possibly thousands of shipwrecks in this area have given it the reputation as the Graveyard of the Atlantic.

The Outer Banks Ferry System
Decades ago, one of the only ways to access some of the most secluded areas of the Outer Banks was via a ferry, and this tradition carries on today for thousands if not millions of visitors who want to travel to some of coastal North Carolina's most famous and off-the-map locales.
A small handful of islands on the Outer Banks, specifically Knotts Island, Ocracoke Island and Portsmouth Island, are veritably cut off from the rest of the world. With no roads that cross over the Currituck or Pamlico Sound, these regions can only be accessed by boat, making them dependent on the NC Ferry system for transportation on and off the islands.

Drone Flyover of Avon, NC (OBX), Pt 1
This is the first of three videos from my flight off the coast of Avon. NC, using my Yuneec Q5004k. I was specifically looking at where the sandbars ran off the coast so that I could see where to drop my fishing line in off the shore. This was a great flight, and you get a good view of the sound on the other side of the island in addition to the ocean, a few surfers, the Avon Pier, and a rain storm off in the distance. Fun stuff.

NC Highway 12 Cape Hatteras National Seashore - Outer Banks, NC Part 1
Afternoon drive along one of America's most scenic highways... NC Route 12 along the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. This is Part 1 of a 9 part video. Enjoy a virtual driving tour from the entrance to the highway past the Bodie Island Lighthouse toward Oregon Inlet and the Herbert C. Bonner Bridge. This video was filmed on my Sony HD Handycam during my annual trip to the Outer Banks on May 31, 2013.
I'm sorry for the mute in the audio. YouTube has a stupid copyright problem where unless they're making money for the music in my video, I cant have it play on the car's radio in the background of my video. You know, I could help that when I filmed the video. I would have rather listened to the pitch of the car's engine for an hour rather than music while I drove all the way down Hatteras Island. Ohwell, I own the song and I didn't buy it and as long as I have the video saved on my memory card and computer, YouTube and the copyright owner can't and won't do anything about it.
Cape Hatteras Lighthouse || Hatteras Island || Outer Banks #Vlog 2
Hi all !!
On our second day of the Outer Banks trip, we visited Cape Hatteras Lighthouse on Hatteras Island and spent some time on Cape Hatteras Lighthouse beach.
With it's black and white candy-cane stripes, Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is one of the most famous and recognizable lighthouses in the world. It is one of the best places to visit while you are in Outer Banks.
I have uploaded a video of our first day of the Outer Banks trip where we spent time on Rodanthe Pier and visited Wright Brothers Museum. You can click on the link below to see the video-
I'll soon be uploading another video of the third day of the trip. Hope to see you all there.
Thanks for stopping by.
Outer Banks, NC - RV Living
We finally made it to the Outer Banks!!! For us, this was one of those places that held an almost mystical value and had been on our radar to visit since the day we purchased our Airstream, so we are doing our happy dance (internally) to have this dream become a reality. To keep things within our budget we stay in two of the areas four Hatteras National Seashore campgrounds - Frisco Campground and Oregon Inlet Campground. We take the ferry over to the island of Ocracoke, which ends up being a saga in itself, but once we get there we thoroughly enjoy our time exploring the village, lighthouse, campground, and beach. We also visit the Wright Brothers Memorial and learn about man's first flight, Jockey Ridge State Park to climb the East Coast's tallest sand dune, and have an unparalleled donut experience thanks to Duck Donuts. We meet up with friends where TJ has the opportunity to do some fishing while Bri climbs the Bodie Lighthouse. In the end, we are glad for all the detours that brought us here at just the right time!
