Hotel Review: Berg- Und Jagdhotel Gabelbach, Ilmenau, Thüringia, Germany - June 2018
Hotel Review: Berg Und Jagdhotel Gabelbach, Ilmenau, Thuringia, Germany - June 2018.
The Berg-Und Jagdhotel Gabelbach is located in the forested hills just south west of the Thuringian town of Ilmenau. It was originally built as a luxury retreat for GDR officials, when Germany was divided into East and West, and when Ilmenau was under the control of the Soviet Union.
Today the hotel is a luxury resort and health retreat located in extensive forested grounds. I stayed at the hotel for 3 nights in June 2018 on a bed and breakfast basis, which cost £206, booked with Expedia.com.
The hotel is of excellent quality, the room was large and comfortable, the breakfast was excellent, the staff were friendly, and most of them spoke enough English for me to get by with my limited German language skills. By far my favourite aspect of the hotel was the superb swimming pool, which was large and mostly empty.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a luxury place to stay near Ilmenau, however I would only recommend this hotel if you had your own car. Do be warned that it is a fairly expensive15 Euro taxi ride into the town centre, a 16 Euro taxi ride to Ilmenau train station, and a 20 Euro taxi ride to Ilmenau Technical University. Over the three days I was there, I ended up spending over 100 Euro on taxis (there are no cheap Uber cars in Germany). The other negative point I will make, is that I believe a hotel of this quality should have air-conditioning in the bedrooms, and unfortunately it didn't.
This film features external views of the hotel building, the hotel grounds, reception, lobby, lift / elevator, corridors, restaurant, bar, breakfast buffet, lunch items, the swimming pool and a detailed review of room 203.

Review: InterCity Hotel Magdeburg Hauptbahnhof, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany - 5th December, 2014
I stayed at the InterCity hotel on a recent visit to Magdeburg. I needed to be close to the railway station, and this was a perfect hotel for me to stay in. The room was fairly basic, but it was warm and comfortable, and had a view across the railway lines behind the hotel.
Breakfast was the usual InterCity buffet, and was very good, although the breakfast room was extremely busy, which wasn't particularly comfortable, and I was unable to film the buffet due to the number of people having breakfast.
The film features exterior views of the hotel, both from the railway station, and in front of the hotel, as well as views of the entrance, bar, restaurant and a detailed room inspection.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to other visitors to Magdeburg, particularly to those who need to be near the station.

Hotel Review: Village Urban Resort, Warrington, Cheshire, England - August 2015
I stayed at the Village Urban Resort in Warrington for two nights in August 2015, two of us stayed in a double room with breakfast for a price of £64.50 per night, I booked with booking.com.
The hotel is a short distance from the town centre. It is walkable from Warrington Central railway station, but we took a taxi for £5.00 as we had luggage.
The hotel layout is almost an identikit of my local Village Hotel in Headingley, although the Warrington one seemed a bit smaller and more compact. The colour scheme is dark - too dark. Whoever came up with this did not appreciate how dingy it makes the corridors and rooms appear. This is something which has been rolled out throughout the Village branded hotels, and it seems like a mistake to me.
We were in room 101, to be completely honest I was disappointed with it. It wasn't very big, it was very dark, the window was small and the view was of the air conditioning units (I asked for a room on a high floor with a view, but didn't get it). To make matters worse the noise from the ground floor function room was easily audible in the bedroom. Unfortunately my experience of staying in this small, dark, stuffy room has put me off of stopping in any other Village hotels in future.
The breakfast buffet food was tasty, but the restaurant kept running out of items, first no bacon, then no sausages, then no margarine...it became a bit of a joke.
I ddn't eat in the restaurant at night, I ate in the bar. The food was OK, standard bar food burger. The drinks prices were quite reasonable, but the bar service was slow, at one time there was only one member of staff serving with a large crowd of people waiting.
On another occasion there was a drunk at the bar, speaking aggressively towards the staff and swearing loudly. To be fair to the staff they handled him well and calmed him down.
We came to the hotel primarily for the swimming pool and spa facilities, sadly all day Saturday of our stay it was absolutely rammed with kids. Not what we came for. The pool was huge, but it just seemed to be like a public baths, rather than a 'resort' hotel pool.
Sadly I have to say that I was disappointed with my stay at this hotel. Anyone who watches my films or reads my reviews regularly will know that I'm usually quite positive and objective, but the small, dark, noisy room, patchy breakfast buffet and crowded swimming pool have put me off staying at this hotel again. £64.50 per night was good value for a spa hotel with breakfast, but there's more to the experience than price alone. Sorry Village Warrington, but I doubt that I'll be back.
This film features views of the hotel front, reception, Starbucks, bar, restaurant, breakfast buffet, swimming pool and bedroom.

Hotel Review: Rilano Hotel, Kleve, Germany - 25th March, 2013
I stayed at the Rilano Hotel in Kleve in March 2013. This film features footage from my visit including views of the bedroom, reception, bar area, restaurant, and exterior views of the hotel. Overall I found this to be a reasonable hotel. I would stay there again and recommend it to other visitors to Kleve.
Hotel Review: Mercure Koblenz, Rhineland Palatinate, Germany - August 2014
I stayed at the Mercure Koblenz on a recent visit to the Rhine Gorge. I paid 220 Euro for two people to stay three nights (room only) with booking.com.
I found the hotel, to be of a good standard, the room was very comfortable, and the bed was fantastic. The hotel had a good bar, it was not cheap but was pretty much as expected. It was well located for the Rhine and Deutsches Eck. The main negtive is the price of the breakfast, which was far too expensive at 17 Euro per person per day, so we didn't have it.

Toiletten (Dreckiger Oi!
Die Toiletten (The Toi!lets :D ) - Dreckiger Oi! aus Darmstadt* (dirty Oi! from boweltown* :D ) played yesterday live again and so we not wanted to miss it :) Very great show. I think everyone into Oi! & punk who understands fun will love this band :) What else to say than watch their clips (the ones which are already uploaded and the ones which will follow) and enjOi! their music and lyrics (if you understand german) :) Oi! it´s fun and having a laugh :D and a say and a shit :D ? :D Invite them to your place and support the band :) More clips will follow :)
Stromberg Polka).
*english version:
The Toilets / Toiletten are in first line a humoristic / funny band. In nearly every song they sing about shit / shitting / the colour brown or stuff like that. They choosed their subtitle „Dreckiger Oi! aus Darmstadt“ because „Darmstadt“ can also mean „boweltown“ in german language. So it´s more some kind of the Toiletten fun / humor, then anything else. We all respect the work of the correct and cool skinheads in & around Darmstadt like SHARP Darmstadt or their old famous and very great band Stromberg Polka. I know some people in Darmstadt not like the humour of the Toiletten so much and especially that they use the town name „Darmstadt“. But it´s definetely not meant as an offense against the correct people in & around Darmstadt. I just write this, that it is also understand abroads and that also people in Darmstadt know that is not in bad intention.

Siffköpf (Oi Punk Ebern) Siffgeil Live @ Frankenpogo (Altenstein) 07092013
Man war das saugeil am Samstag, den 07.09.2013 beim 1. Frankenpogo Festival in Altenstein! Eben richtiger Oi! bzw. richtiger Punk! In diesem Videoclip spielen die Siffköpf (Oi! Punk Ebern) gerade ihr erstes Lied Siffgeil. Schauts Euch an.
Wer mehr über die Siffköpf wissen will:

in Bus on the way from my 2 day Tour Varadero to Trinidad Kuba
I can recommend to go to Matanzas
and Cardesnas
, if you want know , how the real live of Cuba is, if you just stay in Varadero it is not the real Cuba live. Of Course Havana, Cienfuegos, Santa Clara and Trinidad was also nice, but this are organized trips. For me, to make it by self is really easy and secure. I was always alone on this trip, I never had a bad and unsafe feeling. You can see I made photos, videos everywhere, but please ask before you make photos in an shop...In Cuba the Tourists have cuc the native pesos. If you make a such trip take just 0,25 0,5 or 1 cuc with you for by some staff!!! The people can not change!
I made my first tour with a native person of cube which me invite in her home. After this I know how it worked and I went more times alone to Matanzas and Cardenas. You should be able to speak basic Spanish if you make a trip by bus, that you are able to ask for bathroom, if you use a Taxi just say Matanzas or Cardenas called principal (Main Street) and in Matanzas and Carenas are many Taxis to bring you back to Varadero. You can trust me, that works without any problems, you just say Varadero and the number of your street where you stay. That is all.
You have to bargain with the taxi driver. The via Azul bus, that is the official bus which tourist can use will be use for 10 Cuc a single tour, so I think nearly what I taxi also want. (nearly 40 km from Varadero) So far I know is it not possible to go to Cárdenas by via Azul bus.(it is just 20 km from Varadero) maybe 5 to 7 cuc should be ok. I used the bus and paid just 1 Cuc for one tour. But to tell the truth, it is not allowed for the bus driver to take you with him. I like adventure and of course for my safety I had 10 cuc on my side, that I am sure I come back to the hotel I liked Cardenas more. You just need to go to the museum you can go inside cost 5 Cuc and than walk the way where lot of horse and stores are. Have fun! And let a message here if you did it !Take all what you need with to Cuba many thinks really expensive like shampoo 8 Euro, or also mosquito protection was in months of November helpful.
And let a message here if you did it !
Hotel Review: Art'Otel, Dresden, Saxony, Germany - July 2015
I recently stayed at the Art'Otel in Dresden whilst in the city for a wedding, two of us stayed for five nights, room only for £250. This was a reasonable price for Dresden, which is not the cheapest place to stay.
The hotel is loosely speaking also an art gallery, although much of the 'art' is repetitive and features long male members...I'll leave that you your imaginations! It is very much aimed at the business market, with extensive conferencing facilities. During my stay the other guests were a mixture of business and leisure tourists.
The hotel is located a 5-7 minute walk from Dresden Mitte railway station, it is also a 1 minute walk from the Kongresszentrum tram stop on Konneritzstraße where tram numbers 4, 6 and 11 can take you around Dresden and its suburbs.
Reception is open with an 'island' desk, and the receptionists all spoke excellent English. The lifts (elevators) are large and quick, and you enter one side and depart the other.
Our 4th floor corner room (406) was very large with a king sized bed made up of two single mattresses pushed together. Other furniture included a table and two chair, a coffee table, two comfy chairs, bed side tables, large wardrobe and the room came with a fancy coffee maker as well as a kettle and ironing board. There was also a mini-bar, but I didn't use it.
The bathroom was bright, yellow and very dotty, with an abundance of towels, as well as a huge 'eye' shaped bath, which was where the shower was (this presents accessibility issues for the less able bodied). There was a toilet, sink, hairdryer, shaving mirror and shower gels / creams. There is a window between the bathroom and bedroom, which affords little privacy - however there is a switch, which makes the glass in the window opaque - very clever.
This is a good quality hotel, and i enjoyed my stay here, however I was not impressed with the air-conditioning, which was far too weak, and consequently, the room was too hot (this being the height of Summer). I would stay at this hotel again, but probably not in Summer.
This film features a light hearted look at all of the above - enjoy!

Dreckschlüpper (Punk Schmalkalden) Rock´n`Roll live @ Eichigt Open Air 2017 Veilsdorf
english:
Funny band with a cool funny 90ties sound and funny lyrics about girls and sex and booze and against nazis. So if you like Die Kassierer, Lokalmatadore, Scumfuck Bizarr & Arschlecken Rasur compilations you will love this band too :) More clips of them will follow. Dreckschlüpper is east german slang and means Dirty slip :D I think you are always responsible yourself for all the things you do to your environment / people around you. For me songs about sex etc. are nothing bad, they are just a good fun. And its for sure not a problem, if you like sex & women etc. It´s only a problem if you are respectless to women or other people. If a sexual act is okay for everyone involved it is okay, if not then it is not okay. It´s very easy. But now enough to this case :) More clips will follow. Great band.
