Sussex - The Aerial Perspective
A collection of beautiful aerial footage I shot with a DJI Phantom 3 drone, during the early hours and sunrises of summer 2015. This is a highlight to show the beauty of our county, and how lucky we are to live here.

Don't Cut Us Out - BBC South Report
Yesterday - 1st March 2011 - over 1,000 people supported a protest at West Sussex County Council's HQ in Chichester, over proposals to cut support to the most vulnerable people in the community.
The proposed change would be to tighten eligibility thresholds, which would lead to thousands of people no longer qualifying for support with washing and dressing, transport, maintaining social and family contacts, and more. The protesters argue that the proposals have been poorly thought through, and could cost the Council more in the long-run. West Sussex is a unique County, having many more disabled and older residents than others. We believe 'prevention is better than cure', and vulnerable people must not be made to pay the price of cuts in local government budgets.
Thomas Bruce, 1st Earl of Elgin
Thomas Bruce (1599–1663) was a Scottish nobleman, third Lord Bruce of Kinloss, and first Earl of Elgin.
Born in Edinburgh in 1599, Thomas Bruce was the second son of Edward Bruce, 1st Lord Kinloss and his wife, Magdalene Clerk. He succeeded to the title of 3rd Baron Bruce of Kinlosse in August 1613, aged 13, on the death of his elder brother, Edward, killed in a duel with Edward Sackville. The family estates included Whorlton Castle and manor given to his father by James I in 1603. James I granted custody of Thomas, and the estates, to his mother, Magdalene, until he came of age.
Marriage
On 4 July 1622 Thomas married Anne Chichester, daughter by his first marriage of Sir Robert Chichester (1578-1627) of Raleigh, Devonshire, and half-sister of Sir John Chichester, 1st Baronet, of Raleigh (1623-1667).
In 1624 James I granted Bruce Houghton House, near Ampthill, Bedfordshire. Designed by Inigo Jones and built for Mary Sidney Herbert, Dowager Countess of Pembroke it had been reverted to the King by Mary's brother two years after her death in 1621. It became the Bruce family's principal residence for over a century. Charles I later granted him nearby Houghton Park to preserve game for the royal hunt but persistent hunting and hawking by the local Conquest family forced Charles' subsequent intervention. Anne bore him his only son and heir, Robert, on 19 Mar 1626/27 but she died, the next day, on 20 March 1626/27.
Remarriage
12 November 1629 Bruce remarried Lady Diana Cecil, daughter of William Cecil, 2nd Earl of Exeter, widow of Henry de Vere, 18th Earl of Oxford. Diana, having married Oxford in 1624, just a year before his death, brought with her considerable estates at West Tanfield and Manfield, near Thomas' existing Yorkshire estates, as well as property in Lincolnshire and Middlesex including Clerkenwell Priory.
New titles
During Charles I's period of Personal rule, Bruce maintained close relations with the court. He attended the King for his coronation in Scotland in 1633 and the title, Earl of Elgin, was created for him on 21 June 1633.
The year after performing in Thomas Carew's masque, Coelum Britannicum, he graduated Master of Arts from the University of Oxford in 1636. Bruce was invested as a Knight in 1638 at Windsor, along with William Villiers and the Prince of Wales.
Bruce continued in royal favour. He was created 1st Baron Bruce of Whorlton, in the English Peerage, on 29 July 1641.[5][why?] In 1643 he was appointed Keeper of the King's Park at Byfleet, a role he held until 1647.

Tim Peake spacewalk ends early
Nasa has ended the spacewalk involving UK astronaut Tim Peake after his US colleague reported water in his helmet.
Tim Kopra reported a small amount of water, but the flight director took the precaution of ending the event early.
The agency is under a ruling to terminate a spacewalk under such circumstances after an incident in 2013, when a European astronaut developed a significant helmet leak.
The astronauts were outside the space station for four hours 43 minutes.
The main objective of the spacewalk - replacing a failed electrical box - had already been completed.
Just before 1700 GMT, Colonel Kopra, a Nasa astronaut who is a veteran of two spacewalks, told mission controllers a water globule measuring a few inches across had developed inside the helmet.
As it happened: Tim Peake's spacewalk
He was able to sample the water and found it was cold, which is indicative of a leak from part of the US-built suit's cooling system.
12 migrants found on beach as UK mulls more Channel patrols
12 migrants found on beach as UK mulls more Channel patrols LONDON – Police picked up a group of 12 migrants found on a beach in southwestern England as top British officials met Monday to discuss the increasing numbers of people attempting to cross the English Channel from France to England,,,The British government agency that oversees immigration said nine men, two women and a 10-year-old child were in the group, who reported being Iranian,,, The people received health checks and were turned over to immigration officials for interviews, the Home Office said,,,A surge of Channel crossings in recent weeks prompted Home Secretary Sajid Javid to call a crisis meeting with top officials from Britain's Border Force and National Crime Agency and senior government officials,,,Javid said afterward that the government planned to put two more Border Force ships on patrol in the English Channel to protect both the lives of migrants
making the risky journey and Britain's borders,,,About 230 migrants tried to traverse the water from northern France to southern England in December, he said,,,We must remember that this is one of the most treacherous stretches of water that there is, 21 miles with people taking grave risk, Javid said,,,He said two Border Force cutters would be called back from abroad to join a third already stationed in the Channel,,,Matthew Saltmarsh, a spokesman for the U,,,N,,, Refugee Agency, said U,,,N,,, officials also are worried about an upturn in risky crossings by migrants,,,The increase in attempted crossings of the Channel to the UK from France since autumn is a real concern, he said in an email,,, The winter conditions and use of flimsy vessels present significant dangers to asylum seekers attempting the crossing,,,British and French officials have been discussing increasing patrols of the waterway that separates their
countries and connects the North Sea to the Atlantic Ocean,,, The narrow Channel's length is 563 kilometers 350 miles , but navigating it can be dangerous for passengers in the small boats typically used for ferrying migrants because of heavy shipping traffic,,, Thanks for watching,,, Hit that like button, and do subscribe, to get notified on upcoming videos,,,
Africans In Britain-Unity & Pan-Africanism with Professor Hakim Adi | LetsDoHumans Podcast #20
Hakim Adi is currently Professor of the History of Africa and the African Diaspora at the University of Chichester in the UK. Trained as an historian focusing on Africa and African history in the twentieth century, his publications “focused on the history of the African Diaspora in Britain, a relatively new subject for academic study and in particular on the political history of West Africans in Britain, and the influence of Communism and Pan-Africanism on anti-colonial activism”. His work sought to demonstrate not only the important links that were established between those on the African continent and its diaspora but also that Africans and those of African descent have played a significant but often neglected role in the history of Britain.
“My research on such organisations as the West African Students’ Union was necessarily also international in scope and led to further research and publications on the history of Africans in Britain in previous centuries, as well as various aspects of the Pan-African movement and the influence of communism on Africa and the African diaspore in the first half of the twentieth century”.
That research led to Professor Adi’s 2013 book, Pan-Africanism and Communism, which looks at the Communist international and its activities in Africa and amongst the African diaspora (principally in the United States, the Caribbean, Britain and France) from 1919-1939. As one of the few historians specialising in the history of the African diaspora in Britain, his work has led to many speaking engagements around the world, including China and the USA, as well as media appearances, work with museums and archives and the publication of three history books for children.
His latest book, Pan-Africanism: A History, is the very first survey this 21st century, of the Pan-African movement. Professor Adi covers many of the key political figures of the 20th century, including Du Bois. Garvey, Malcolm X, Kwame Nkrumah and Muammar Gaddafi, as well as Pan-African cultural expression from Negritude to Bob Marley.

Breaking News - West Brom doc set for TV debut after famous artist covered relegation
West Brom are set to hit the TV screens soon in a documentary to be aired on Channel Four, detailing the events after the club accepted the strange request to have an artist in residence at The Hawthorns. The Baggies opened their doors for famous portrait artist Tai-Shan Schierenberg, who came and spent the duration of the 2017/18 campaign with the club.Channel Four's concept behind the 'Artist in Residence' series is an investigation into how different aspects of modern life can be construed using the medium of art, and how very specific cases - such as an elite level sports club - can be represented. During his tenure with the club Schierenberg committed his impressions and observations to canvas.West Brom agreed to be participants in the filming prior to the beginning of the 17/18 season, and one which would turn out to be a stressful one indeed. The Baggies battled against relegation all season, going through three managers before eventually being swallowed up and condemned to play their football in the Championship. Share this article Share Schierenberg was watching on all the while, spending time with the club at different levels on a day-to-day basis. He is an internationally-renowned portrait painter whose work hangs in the National Gallery and who can include The Queen and Professor Stephen Hawking among those who have sat for him.'I wanted to make art about football, because I wanted to understand what it was about the game that makes it so compelling,' said Schierenberg. 'I began by being slightly mystified by football fandom, but discovered that football is, in fact, a vehicle for an emotionally-rich life.'I found the experience of making it rather emotional and I'm not ashamed to admit I shed a few tears in the process.'The documentary is set to air on Channel Four on Sunday, July 29 at 10.15pm. Thank you to Go Addis Tours ( for taking me on this amazing ultimate food and market tour of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Ethiopia is one of my favorite countries in the world for food and travel, and this was my second time to visit, and I was eager to explore and eat as much as possible.
We started early, 5 am in the morning and Go Addis Tours picked me up to start at the wholesale market. Even though the city is still sleeping, Addis Mercato is buzzing from 3 am when trucks full of produce from all over Ethiopia, sell them at the market in Addis Ababa. You’ll find all the ingredients, and massive amounts, that you need to cooking Ethiopian food. It was a good warm up, to get to know some of the ingredients, before starting the day eating Ethiopian food.
We had coffee, and breakfast, both of which were excellent. Later after visiting another market, Dessie took me to his neighborhood to eat shiro wat, one of the greatest of all Ethiopian foods, a thick and rich chickpea stew. I’ve had shiro wat many times before, but never have I seen it fully prepared right in front of me. The shiro was incredibly good, piled onto a bed of injera, and we also ordered fir fir, a mashup of injera, simmered with tomato sauce and berbere.
Next we headed to a fish restaurant in Addis Ababa. Ethiopia is landlocked, so all fish is freshwater. We ordered fried fish, and asa lebleb, a mixture of fish sauteed with spices and herbs. Both were excellent, but the asa lebleb was the highlight because it was so flavorful.
Next Ethiopian food meal we went to one of the longtime classic restaurants to eat one of the best platters of beyaynetu in Addis Ababa. Beyaynetu is a mix of vegetarian dishes. It was again, a delicious meal, I especially love the tomato salad there.
For our final meal of the day, and to finish off this extreme Ethiopian food tour, we went to one of the most well known and best quality meat restaurants in Addis Ababa to eat tere siga - raw meat. You are served a variety of chunks of raw beef, delicately sliced. Then you slice it into bite sized pieces on your own, wrap in injera, and dip into chili sauce before taking a bite. It’s awesome. The fried meat version is also very good.
This was an amazing day, and an amazing Ethiopian food tour in Addis Ababa. Thank you Go Addis Tours!
