Walking to the river in Hay - Australia Tourism
I visited Hay for work and decided to take the GoPro for a walk to the Murrumbidgee River. A quiet country town in NSW, Australia.
The Australian Shearers Hall of Fame, fine heritage buildings and fascinating World War II history are just three of the many attractions in Hay, a charming country town in beautiful western Riverina. Discover intriguing museums and enjoy outback sunsets, lovely parks, cycle ways and thrilling rodeo.
On the banks of the Murrumbidgee River, Hay is one of Australia’s major wool growing areas. At Shear Outback is the Australian Shearers Hall of Fame. Explore the story of Australian sheep shearing and see live sheep-shearing demonstrations. There is a gift shop, cafe and maze at the museum.
Hire free bicycles from the Hay Outback Information Centre and explore various attractions. Stop at the elaborate Witcombe Fountain and the Bishop’s Lodge Historic House, an 1888 iron house designed to withstand summer heat. Pedal along the Bidgee Riverside Trail for the Warakirri Murals.
Military history is an important part of Hay’s heritage, too. The Light Horse Memorial is a striking bronze sculpture to commemorate World War I. In the Hay Gaol Museum and the Dunera Museum, explore the history of the World War II civilian internment camps and prisoner of war camps in Hay.
In the heritage-listed railway station, Dunera Museum is the home of the POW and Internment Camp Interpretative Centre. You can also make an appointment to visit the Hay War Memorial High School Museum. The school was described as the ‘finest war memorial’ when it opened in 1923.
With the meandering river, vast plains, wetlands and abundant birdlife, the natural beauty of the area is captivating. Watch glorious sunsets at the Hay Sunset Viewing Area, a short drive north of the town. Walk along the riverbank on the Hay Nature Walk, where there are delightful picnic spots.
In addition to the natural beauty and extraordinary heritage, enjoy special events such as the Hay Rodeo in March and the Booligal Sheep Races in Booligal, north of Hay, in April. Places to stay include cottages, motels, country pubs as well as riverside caravan and camping sites.
The Sturt, Cobb and Mid Western highways converge on Hay, which is halfway between Sydney and Adelaide and five hours’ drive north of Melbourne. You can fly into Griffith City Airport and rent a car for the 90 minutes’ drive to Hay. From Wagga Wagga, the drive is three hours.

Eyes To The Floor is inspired by stories from the former Hay Institution for Girls, which operated between 1960 and 1974. It was a place where extreme, dehumanising discipline was imposed on girls now known as the 'Forgotten Australians'.
Eyes to the Floor is performed by young people from the Hay community with support from professional actors Craig Higgs and Ashleigh Haynes-Holyoake.

How accessible is Dubai? | Lord Andrew Hay | Global Head of Residential
How accessible is Dubai to global investors?
It is widely known that Dubai is a transport hub and connects very quickly with a third of the world’s population within 4 hours or two thirds of the population within 8 hours. But the exciting thing for the future is that to the East we have Asia and the west is Africa who are looking to emerge strongly over the next 10 years and Dubai is superbly positioned as a central hub.

Perth on a Budget
The best things in life are (almost!) free, and that is certainly the case if you head to Perth in Western Australia.
As this video shows, you don't need a bulging wallet to enjoy what the city has to offer, for example:
City Walking Tours and Trails
Walking tours of the city and the City Walks and Trails maps are the best way to explore the Perth CBD and surrounding areas.
i-City volunteers guide free walking tours each week day, departing from the i-City Information Kiosk in Murray Street Mall near Forrest Place. The tours take up to 2 hours, and you can join in or leave anywhere along the way.
You can also do the walking tours yourself by picking up the walking tour map and comprehensive guide from the i-City kiosk.
The walks and trails intercept the city's free CAT bus service accessing the foreshore, East Perth, Northbridge and West Perth (excluding public holidays).
Western Australia Museum
The Western Australian Museum's long and fascinating history reflects and documents the State's rich and diverse natural and cultural heritage.
Established in 1891 in the old Perth gaol, it was known as the Geological Museum and its collections were geological, ethnological and biological. In 1897 it officially became the Western Australian Museum and Art Gallery.
During 1959 the botanical collection was transferred to the new Herbarium and the Museum and the Art Gallery became separate institutions. The Museum focussed its collecting and research interests in the areas of natural sciences, anthropology, archaeology and the State's history. Over the 1960s and 1970s it also began to work in the emerging areas of historic shipwrecks and Aboriginal site management.
Today the Western Australian Museum comprises six public sites and a collection and research centre and houses more than 4.5 millions objects from rare fossils to the iconic racing yacht Australia II.
The Museum also manages 200 shipwrecks sites of the 1500 known to be located off the WA coast and manages eight Aboriginal land reserves.
Kings Park and Botanic Garden
Kings Park and Botanic Garden is visited by over 6 million people each year. With its remarkable expanses of unique bushland, tranquil parkland and botanic garden, the park is the most popular visitor destination in Western Australia.
The total area of the park is 400.6 hectares and is located adjacent to the Swan River, approximately 1.5 km from the Central Business District of Perth.
There are many things to do for the whole family, exciting events are held throughout the year and a range of services are offered to ensure you enjoy your visit.
Free Wheeling Fremantle
Based at the E Shed, Free Wheeling Fremantle is a free bike service that enables you to explore the city at a leisurely pace.
So borrow a bike, grab a map, don your helmet and start pedalling!
Anyone can enjoy the free bike for use within the Fremantle area.

North Parramatta Government Precinct (Fleet Street Heritage Area)
Captions:
Bethel was built c1862 and sits on the southern most extent of the precinct, just north of Parramatta Stadium. She is as pretty as a dollhouse and 'appears' to be in stunning condition.
Nearby is the entrance to the main dormitory of the Roman Catholic Orphanage. The Georgian Palladian core of this building was constructed in 1842 and the Victorian Gothic wings added later
A long L-shaped 2-story wing was added to the main dormitory c1850 to provide additional accommodation for the Orphanage. Today, the site is under the control of the Department of Corrections and is known as the Norma Parker Centre
Sadly, this architectural asset was severely damaged by an electrical fire on Dec 22, 2012. While responding fire fighters did a wonderful job preventing the fire spreading beyond the upper floor or main chimney stack, it remains unprotected and it's future is unknown
Immediately north is the former Female Factory, later known as the Asylum for Lunatics and Invalids. The oldest remaining structure in this group of buildings was designed by Francis Greenway and dates back to 1818
Structures commissioned by governors including Macquarie, Brisbane and Gipps, designed by architects including Greenway, Barnet and Vernon and built using convict labour mass this important space. Today it serve as an area for waste storage and ad hoc parking
Designed by James Barnet and built between 1883-1885, the Clocktower and Institute of Psychiatry Building were constructed using the stones and clock of the original Female Factory. The clock, 1 of 5 gifted to the colony by King George IV in 1822, no longer chimes
It's environs have gradually been eroded by unsympathetic adaptive reuse and little consideration has been given to maintaining a suitable curtilage around this and other important structures
and while counsellors and politicians hold out for a cost neutral solution in terms of asset management these incredibly valuable heritage assets, which we have a responsibility to protect, remain in a state of demolition by neglect
Like the Old Kitchen Block with it's glazed and vented lanterns and beautiful square chimney stack, designed by Walter Liberty Vernon in 1892 not long after his appointment to the position of Government Architect
Or the Main Administration Block that was designed by Vernon much later in his career as Government Architect in 1909, by which time he had become a master at executing the various disciplines of Federation architecture
This excellence in architecture is evident throughout the entire precinct. The former Nurses Administration Building which was also built in 1909 features a grand portico addressing the riverbank and is another fine example of the Arts & Crafts movement
The Old Laundry & Workshop was constructed c1890 and sits on the northern end of the precinct (also under the control of the Department of Corrections). Each of the tiny window panes on it's western facing elevation were once a kaleidoscope of colour
Viewed from the east, it is clear to see that the Laundry & Workshop has served many different uses and has been altered many times in the past 12 decades. Properly interpreted, it no doubt possesses an interesting narrative
Key plantings from the extensive formal gardens that once graced the site still remain where not in conflict with current uses, like the ever expanding need for parking. Many are pushing north of a century and some, introduced under the direction of Charles Moore, are over 150 years old
There are even archaeological gems hidden in the creek bed amongst the weeds and rubbish, with hints of structures past able to be found by the keen observer. Such as this interesting piece which appears to be the foundations of timber walled dam
It seems reasonable to assume that this is the remnants of a storage pond that once fed the mill which knew no Sabbath. The mill was constructed by Rev Samuel Marsden on the site c1812 and was so picturesque as to be the subject of a painting by Joseph Lycett
This area of immense historical and cultural importance situated on the nucleation point of a nation and at the geographic heart of it's most populous city, even boasts evidence of it's original inhabitants, members of the Burramattagal clan of the Darug people

The Fremantle prison - in Western Australia
The Fremantle prison riot was a prison riot that occurred on 4 January 1988 at Fremantle Prison, in Western Australia. The riot was organised as a diversion for an escape that was to take place. Prisoners created a fire as part of the diversion, and temperatures inside the cells were recorded at 52.2 °C (126 °F). 3 division and 4 division were taken over by a total of seventy prisoners, and 15[1] officers were taken hostage. The fire caused $1.8 million in damage and unintentionally prevented the planned escape.
