Japan Off The Beaten Path: Autumn In Akita Prefecture | Japan Travel Guide
Japan Off The Beaten Path is a new series on my channel, where I show you more of the unknown areas/prefectures in Japan and encourage you to travel and visit areas other than the common places such as Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka.
In this first episode, we visit and explore around Akita Prefecture in the Tohoku region of northern Honshu, the main island of Japan.
I came here during Autumn(end of October), which is the perfect time to come to see the autumn foliage!

As for transportation, it takes 4 hours to get from Tokyo station to Akita station via the Akita Komachi Bullet Train.
It costs around ¥17,000($160 USD) however if you have the JR pass you just have to pay the small fee of the reserved seat on the Shinkansen(all seats are reserved).
Or if you are going up to Hokkaido or coming back down from Hokkaido, you can change at the Shin-Aomori station and take the local JR train down to Odate station.
Going back to Tokyo from Shin-Aomori station is also possible by taking the Hayabusa bullet train. (Around ¥17,000)
Even though Akita is in Japan, each prefecture is so unique in it's own way - I learned so much from this trip and could see a different side of Japan.. I hope to share this kind of Japan more and more with you through my channel :)
and lastly, a big big big thank you to my friends at Akita Inu Tourism for showing me around Akita!!!! Couldn't have done this video without you!

Japan's AMAZING BULLET TRAIN! Shinkansen Green Car REVIEW + BOMB Bento Box | Tokyo to Kyoto
As a world traveler, there are several places I’ve always wanted to visit and Japan is one of them. After years of loving and appreciating the food and culture that originated in this unique Asian nation, I finally got my chance to go during the final two weeks of January 2019. The twelve days I spent traveling around the island, going on food tours, visiting iconic sites, and immersing myself in the amazing culture are twelve days I will never forget.
My Film Making Kit ►
On my fourth morning in Japan, it was time for me to leave Tokyo. As sad as it was for me to say goodbye to this incredible, modern, futuristic, world-class city, I couldn’t wait for what was ahead: the city of Kyoto! But first I had to get there. That meant I needed to take a ride on one of Japan’s famous bullet trains, which I knew would be an adventure in itself! Come along with me as I travel from Tokyo to Kyoto on a Shinkansen bullet train!
Japan’s Shinkansen bullet trains are some of the fastest trains in the world and travel at speeds up to 200 mph, which makes traveling between Japan’s biggest cities a breeze. A drive between Tokyo and Kyoto would take the better part of a day, and a flight would take several hours due to check-ins and check-outs, but on a bullet train, it’s just a little over two hours.
I recommend buying your ticket early from a station like I did rather than buying online, which is more expensive. My ticket was for a seat on the Green Car, which is like first class and cost me 19,434 Yen, or roughly $175 U.S. I also recommend asking people who work there where to go because the station is massive. My train was set to leave at 6:30 a.m., but before I left, I wanted to try my very first Bento box during the ride.
At 6 a.m., I bought a Bento box for 1,000 Yen, or roughly $10, at the Delica Station. The stores in the station sell everything from alcohol to magazines and everything in-between, so since I had some time to kill, I looked for some souvenirs!
The train itself is very nice. There are outlets where you can charge your phone, as well as free WiFi. Moist towels are passed out shortly after departure so you can clean your hands. Just remember, if you ride a bullet train, or any train in Japan for that matter, remember to be quiet and respectful of others.
As we rode toward Kyoto, I opened my sake, which was so light it tasted like water, and my Bento box, which contained a variety of sticky rice, tofu, eel, fried tempura, vegetables, seaweed, clams, and octopus. The vegetables were really nice and the octopus was really tender. The fish was delicious, as were the clams and shrimp tempura, which had been soaking in soy sauce. The sushi rice was sticky; I realized later that I was supposed to eat it with the fish.
The sticky rice with clams on top was also very good, with a really nice, dense texture. The seaweed was actually kelp, and the omelet was also fantastic. There was also a dense and delicious fish cake with soy sauce. Then, after my meal, I took a quick, 30-minute nap!
With just 45 minutes left until I arrived in Kyoto, I decided to show you guys more of the bullet train, including its sinks and really nice bathrooms. There are also receptacles for your trash and a nice space with a window where you can watch various cities and the countryside whiz by at 200 miles per hour! And for the speed at which it travels, there’s barely any noise.
Everyone should ride a bullet train in Japan at least once in their lifetime. It’s such an amazing experience, and the Green Car is such a luxurious travel experience. Everyone is really nice and friendly and I highly recommend it!
After 2 hours and 20 minutes, I arrived in Kyoto! I couldn’t wait to start my adventures there!
I hope you enjoyed coming along with me for my first time traveling on a Shinkansen bullet train! If you did, please give the video a thumbs up and leave me a comment below. Also, please subscribe to my channel if you haven’t already and I will see you in the next travel food adventure!

Katakuri Festival on Yunoshima - Asamushi Onsen, Aomori, Japan
Every April, people in Aomori celebrate the blooming of the katakuri, or dog-toothed violets, by opening up Yunoshima island in Asamushi Onsen to tourists for a few weeks. Fishermen give short ferry rides to the uninhabited island, where you can hike a short and steep trail to the 132 m summit.

JAPAN HIDDEN TREASURES Lake Towada
Hi Guys! I am back with another video of our Tohoku travels! This time I am sharing 2 days around Lake Towada.
Lake Towada (十和田湖, Towadako) is part of the Towada-Hachimantai National Park and is the largest caldera lake on Honshu, Japan's main island. Located on the border between Akita and Aomori Prefectures, the area is well known for its autumn colors especially around the Oirase Stream.
This place is so “peaceful” ???? but really it is such a beautiful place to visit.
It was an amazing trip. Felt so calm and relaxed while staying here. We have also seen multiple camping spots around the lake so you can give that a go as well.

Autumn in Japan! ???? Visiting Mt. Kurikoma! (栗駒山)
Hey guys, Clyde here! Last weekend I decided to get off my butt and travel to Mt. Kurikoma -- a spot that's known in Japan for it's beauty in the fall! Hope you enjoy my trip!
Truth be told, it was something of a rushed hike -- I was with a friend that was running on a tight schedule, and as a result I wasn't able to capture as much footage as I wanted. Sorry for the short video!
Still, autumn in Japan is an absolutely *gorgeous* time! If you have the chance to visit during this season, you won't regret it! (Plus, avoiding the summer humidity is the BEST perk ever.)
Oh, and about that Japanese word I mentioned in the video! Kouyou! 紅葉! こうよう! Remember it! You'll *definitely* hear it some day!
If you're wanting to see more photographs of the onsen I talked about in the video, I sourced the photographs from the following websites -- check them out, they're chocked-full of great resources!
Likewise, credits and gratitude to Ketsa for the use of his track Journey Near Complete sourced from FreeMusicArchive.org under an attributive license. His music is absolutely brilliant, so check it out!
Thanks again, and see you guys next time! (^^)v
