Taiwan - Tainan
Tainan is a special municipality of Taiwan, facing the Formosan Strait or Taiwan Strait in the west and south. Tainan is the oldest city on the island of Taiwan and also commonly known as the Capital City for its over 200 years of history as the capital of Taiwan under Koxinga and later Qing dynasty rule. Tainan's complex history of comebacks, redefinitions and renewals inspired its popular nickname the Phoenix City.
As Taiwan's oldest urban area, Tainan was initially established by the Dutch East India Company (VOC) as a ruling and trading base called Fort Zeelandia during the period of Dutch rule on the island. After Dutch colonists were defeated by Koxinga in 1661, Tainan remained as the capital of the Tungning Kingdom until 1683 and afterwards the capital of Taiwan Prefecture under Qing Dynasty rule until 1887, when the new provincial capital was moved to Taipei.
MyInspireProject EP3 – Taiwan, A Home Island to a Wealth of Culture, Sensational Food and Nature
Our new episode is dedicating to our home town, #Taiwan, an island formerly known as Formosa in the 17th century and remains largely undiscovered by Western travelers. But for those who make it here, they are in for a real treat.
Taiwan displays a wealth of culture with an eclectic mix of Chinese, Western, Japanese and indigenous influences. We have invited Taiwanese actor and celebrity TV host, Yi Lee, to explore the #StreetFood Culture with us. And we were also honored to experience the new era of the traditional Puppet Show and Art with Pili International Media and Taiwanese designer Wang Li Ling. The biggest surprise of all, is Taiwan’s nature: from towering mountains, rushing rivers, tropical beaches and sheers cliffs on the coast. With no doubt, Taiwan is one of the most welcoming places on earth, as we encountered numerous acts of generosity and kindness throughout the journey.
Through our story, we would like to share the highlights of the new “#MadeinTaiwan,” and we hope this hidden paradise would attract more adventurous travels from the rest of the world.

Kathy Shorr - Photographer
MPS Digital Photography presents a talk by Kathy Shorr (BFA 1988 Photography).
In 2013, Shorr began photographing survivors of gun violence at the very spots where the violence happened. She often asked her portrait subjects to reveal the scars they’d been left with. Her project entitled Shot was published as a monograph by PowerHouse books in 2017. It contains 101 portraits taken in 45 cities across the United States.
This talk is part of the i3: Images, Ideas, Inspiration lecture series, which features presentations by digital photographers, hardware and software developers and industry experts.

Japanese occupation of Malaya | Wikipedia audio article
This is an audio version of the Wikipedia Article:
Japanese occupation of Malaya
Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.
