What to Do in Cannon Beach: Haystack Rock & Ecola State Park
March 13, 2019 / VLOG NO. 145 – Cannon Beach: Haystack Rock & Ecola State Park / We took a road trip from Portland to Cannon Beach on our last day in Oregon. After exploring Yerba Buena's cannabis cultivation facility earlier in the day, we set off to explore all of the major sights that make Oregon famous, including Haystack Rock and Ecola State Park. It was a really fun time getting to know a different part of the state and I HIGHLY recommend a visit to Oregon's Pacific Coast!

Haystack Rock Fly-Around - Cannon Beach, Oregon
On a brisk late November day we take a fly around Haystack Rock in Cannon Beach. The sun is low in the sky and it is about half way between high tide and low tide. The trip starts on the east side of the rock, and goes around the south end, and then out to sea to go around the west side of the rock. See Haystack Rock in Cannon Beach like you've never seen it before.

For you Droners - You cant fly from the beach as it's a No Drone Zone. The airspace is clear so we took off from a road some distance away and never got to close to the rock which is a wildlife preserve.

Cannon Beach Oregon - Visit to Haystack Rock - YouTube
When Cindy and I headed out on Cannon Beach, we took different paths so I never saw this amazing sand castle, which I absolutely love and think Cindy did an awesome job filming..
Beautiful sea side location on Oregon's rugged Pacific Coast, Cannon Beach is within an easy day's drive from where we live in Southern British Columbia.

Exploring Oregon - Driving to Cannon Beach Haystack Rock - YouTube
We were staying in Seaside Oregon, just a 15 minute drive from Haystack Rock at Cannon Beach. Negative low tide was at 7am.
Admittedly I was hoping for sunny weather but when we travel we have to take what is dealt and in this case it was fog and low clouds. The temperature was relatively mild, even warm by my measure and it didn't rain, so all was good.

Cannon beach & Haystack Rock Oregon USA
Cannon Beach, a popular vacation resort, extends for four miles along the Pacific Ocean.
It is located west of Highway 101 in the approximately three blocks between the highway and the Pacific Ocean in Clatsop County on the Northern Oregon Coast.
The city was named after a small, iron cannon that came ashore from a shipwrecked U.S. Navy schooner, The Shark.
Haystack Rock is a 235-foot (72-meter) sea stack in Cannon Beach, Oregon. It is sometimes claimed locally to be the third-tallest such intertidal (meaning it can be reached by land) structure in the world, but there are no scientific references to support this. A popular tourist destination, the monolithic rock is adjacent to the beach and accessible by foot at low tide. The Haystack Rock tide pools are home to many intertidal animals, including starfish, sea anemone, crabs, chitons, limpets, and sea slugs. The rock is also a nesting site for many sea birds, including terns and puffins.
