Replace Hazelwood
Hazelwood is Australias dirtiest power station. This election year, were calling on the Victorian and Federal Governments to commit to Replace Hazelwood with Clean Energy by 2012. Can you help us make it happen?

THE TROUBLE WITH HAZELWOOD
Welcome to Victoria home of Australias dirtiest power station. Its Hazelwood Power Station and its located in the Latrobe Valley right here in Victoria. It has the distinction of being not just the dirtiest power station in the country, but one of the worst in the industrialised world.
Now thats a distinction we dont need.
DID YOU KNOW:
· Hazelwood pumps out over 16 million tonnes of greenhouse pollution each year. Thats almost 15 percent of Victorias greenhouse gas emissions and 3 percent of Australias greenhouse gas emissions, all on its own.
· It uses a whopping 27 billion litres of water a year. Thats almost as much water as the whole of Melbourne uses in a month!
· It's the single largest emitter of dioxins in Australia.
Back when it was first commissioned in 1959, the workers who were building it arrived at work in FJ Holdens. But since then, weve seen some major technological breakthroughs.
We've put a man on the moon. Our computers have gone from the size of a room, to fitting in the palm of your hand. And we certainly dont drive FJ Holdens any more.
We've invented new technologies that can guarantee reliable power straight from the sun and the wind. Yet here in Victoria, were still relying on this decaying old power station for our energy.
Hazelwood was due to be shut down in 2005. Instead, the government decided to continue with this ancient technology. It's old, inefficient and way past its used-by-date.
We can Replace Hazelwood with clean, safe and reliable energy for the future, and we can do it within the next two years.
WHY NOW?
This year, we have a big opportunity to Replace Hazelwood and set Victoria and Australia on the path to a clean energy future.
With a state and federal election both timed for later this year, now is the time to make the call for all parties to commit to Replace Hazelwood with Clean Energy by 2012.
Following the Rudd Governments back flip on their commitment to act on climate change through an Emissions Trading Scheme, the State and Federal Governments desperately need to show Australians that they're prepared to tackle our climate challenge. Replacing Hazelwood is their big opportunity to show leadership, cut pollution, and deliver real climate action.
The owners of Hazelwood, International Power, can also see the writing on the wall. They've told the Federal Government in a submission that they would be willing to close early if paid to do so.
It's time to Replace Hazelwood.
2010 is an election year. That puts the average voter in a power position.
This election, lets make sure all parties commit to Replace Hazelwood with Clean Energy by 2012.
MAKE IT HAPPEN

The pondage is 550 hectares in size and holds 31,000 megalitres of water. If the walls fail because of an earthquake the water flow out of the dam would happen quickly, the statement read. If they occurred due to wear and tear it would be slower.Property owners most at risk on Yinnar and Switchb...

Hazelwood Power Station Mine Fire - Scenes from the Strzelecki Highway Driffield
Will You Survive a Disaster!
Today the 25th February 2014 it was announced that an arsonist started the Hazelwood power station mine fire along the Strzelecki Highway just outside of the city of Morwell. It was been reported that there were about three fires lit along the Strzelecki Highway between Morwell and Mirboo North, the closest one from the Driffield area getting into the Morwell coal mine. The fire in the mine still burns today and is causing a lot of issues for the residents of Morwell.
My family and I are still in Morwell and staying indoors and only go out when the wind changes as it did late on the 24th of February. The Hazelwood coal mine has been burning since the 9th of February 2014 and has delivered lots on smoke and ash all over the town and outer regions.
New Update 25th February 2014!
A new fire has broken out from the Hazelwood Mine onto grassland and is headed towards the Hazelwood Power Station. The warning is for residents in the Hazelwood South area to be ready to evacuate as high wind fan this new fire.

The HALLETT at Hazelwood Pondage
Hazelwood Dark Ages - feat Robbie Thorpe & Scott Ludlam
civil disobedience: 22 people arrested and 500+ protesting at Hazelwood in direct action against the dirtiest and most harmful coal-powered station in the world.
HAZELWOOD POWER STATION - is one of the dirtiest power stations in the industrialised world, emitting 17megatonnes of CO2 annually. International Power Hazelwood employs 520 people.
Hazelwood was scheduled to be decommissioned by 2009 due to its excessive carbon dioxide emissions, however the State Government in 2005 extended its life until 2031.
The action is intended to show that the social licence to continue to burn coal and pollute has been revoked. We are declaring a Community Decommission Order on Hazelwood, to switch on the renewable energy transition.
Speakers included: Robbie Thorpe - representative of the Gunai/Kurnai - owners of the land in the La Trobe valley, Scott Ludlum, Green Senator for WA, and Dave Sweeney, Australian Conservation Foundation, ACF.
THE POLICE RESPONSE: HOW OUR TAX DOLLARS ARE SPENT. The policing operation was reported to have cost in excess of $200,000 with 250 officers present including horses, dogs, the helicopter and boats on the pondage. The visible presence was about 100 officers along the fence line. Police had constructed a temporary fence about 100 metres beyond the real perimeter of the plant. This allowed demonstrators to breach the first police line and be arrested without actually getting too close to the plant, something the police obviously intended. Police did appear to lose patience by about 3 PM as the protestors held a final spokes council to decide on how to end the day. The meeting was buzzed low by the police helicopter and police liason were told that any mass charge on the fence to finish the day would be met with the use of capsicum foam. That was their subtle way of saying, it was time to go home.
Arrestees were charged with Trespass and were told they will be charged on summons to appear in the Morewell Courts at a later date. They were processed on site. One protestor was charged with assaulting police after allegedly colliding with a police officer after jumping the fence. Organisers have pledged legal support and solidarity fundraising will occur for all those arrested.

Arrestable At Hazelwood
Our glorious State Premier changed the law soon after people met outside of possibly the world's dirtiest coal fired power plant. Now, fines and jail time await those who dare to challenge the coal lobby in Australia. Nice.

Join me on another vlog where myself my wife and mum head down to a local spot near my mum's home in Boolara Victoria for a spot of Crayfishing.
The nets started off slow but we ended up picking up 2 or 3 Spiney freshwater crayfish.
This sort of fishing is great for families who enjoy outdoors and want to relax by the bank.
Get on it - just watch the claws haha ????.

Close Hazelwood Power Station now says Climate Scientist Prof David Karoly
Professor Karoly has called for the immediate closure of the Hazelwood coal fired power station, one of the most inefficient and most polluting power stations in the world, at a rally in Melbourne on 6 November 2010, in a leadup to the Victorian state election on November 27.
Karoly served as a lead author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Working Group 2 (awarded the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize, jointly with Al Gore) and is a member of the faculty of the School of Earth Sciences at the University of Melbourne.
