Raisen Fort

Raisen Fort This place is near Sanchi. The fort is about 800 years old. It is built on a hill and occupies the entire hilltop. The origins of the fort go back to 1200 AD. Up to the 15th century it was under rulers of various Hindu lines, including the Rajputs. In 1543 Sher Shah Suri captured it from Puranmal. Subsequently in 1760 Fiaz Mohammad Khan, the third Nawab of Bhopal, occupied it. As a result, up to India's independence in 1947, Raisen remained part of the Princely state of Bhopal. After India's independence, it, along with most of the Bhopal princely state, became part of the new Bhopal state of India, which was merged into Madhya Pradesh on 1 November 1956.
The most visited place in Raisen is the Shrine of Hazrat Peer Fatehullah Shah Baba who was a well known muslim saint. People have a strong belief that ones desires are fulfilled if asked to God via Hazrat Peer Fatehullah Shah Baba.
Visitors are also attracted to the sprawling Raisen fort which shows a great example of national and religious integrity with its temples and maszid and mazars situated in same campus and worshiped by both religion peoples. it has a very good water management and conservation system along with a large water reservoir and some 40 wells. In the vicinity of the fort there are also several caves with ancient wall paintings.

Aukaf-e-Shahi decides rent of shops outside Hazrat Peer Fatehullah Shah shrine

The meeting between Aukaf-e-Shahi and the shopkeeper on Friday resulted in a decision over fixture of the rent of the shop that fall under the premises of Hazrat Peer Fatehullah Shah dargah.

Agreement has been made on Rs 100 rent for the small shops outside the dargah.

Raisen is a town and a municipality in Raisen district in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. It is the administrative headquarters of Raisen District. Raisen takes its name from the massive fort at the top of a hill. The town is located at the foot. The name is probably a corruption of Rajavasini or Rajasayan—the royal residence. Raisen Fort is a substantial historical edifice placed atop a hill enthralling a vast water reservoir, palaces and a few temples within the fort. Located in the city of Bhopal, the 800-year-old fort has nine gateways, fortifications, domes and the remains of several buildings from the early medieval period. It's now an abode to hundreds of bats.

Raisen fort is also a shrine of a Muslim saint Hazrat Peer Fatehullah Shah Baba. It is believed that the shrine can fulfil the desires of the pilgrims. Until the 16th century, the fort was under the hegemony of the Rajputs and other Hindu rulers. Although the nawabs of Bhopal initially captured the fort, it is presently under the custody of ASI. The magnificent fort stands on an outlier of a rock which has a massive stone wall pierced with nine gateways. It drowns in a wilderness and a thick undergrowth of vegetation and wild long grass. Adorned with a large courtyard and a beautiful pool in the middle, the origin of the Raisen fort dates back to the 1200 AD. With four palaces (Badal Mahal, Rohini Mahal, Itradaan Mahal & Hawa Mahal) within its boundaries, the mighty fort also houses a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. The doors of the temple open every year on the occasion of Shivratri. The pilgrims who visit the temple on other days tie a piece of cloth on the grill gate for the fulfilment of their wishes. Raisen fort also abounds rock shelters with paintings created by the cave dwellers.

Bhopal - City in Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal is a city in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. It's one of India’s greenest cities. There are two main lakes, the Upper Lake and the Lower Lake. On the banks of the Upper Lake is Van Vihar National Park, home to tigers, lions and leopards. The State Museum has fossils, paintings and rare Jain sculptures. Taj-ul-Masjid is one of Asia’s largest mosques, with white domes, minarets and a huge courtyard.

It is highly ornamented with the majestic mosques which showcase classic Mughal architecture such as the Taj-Ul-Masjid, one of the largest in India, built by the third female ruler Bhopal had, Shah Jahan Begum, Moti Masjid and many more.The city will also catch your attention through its breathtakingly beautiful havelis and museums as well as nawabi food that is an absolute delight for foodies.

Upper lake- The capital city of Madhya Pradesh holds a significant number of lakes hence widely known as Bhopal the city of lakes. Upper Lake is the most significant lake of Bhopal commonly known as the Bhojtal. It’s the oldest human-made lake in the country that lies on the west of Bhopal. The locals also call it Bada Talab. This beautiful vast water body was named after King Bhoj who built the lake across Kolans River in the 11th-century. The pillar on one corner of the lake holds the statue of Raja Bhoj. The Upper Lake is separated from the lower lake by an overbridge called Pul Pukhta.

On the eastern side of the lake, the boat club was established offering some water sports for the visitors such as parasailing, kayaking, canoeing, rafting etc. It,s a hub for all adventure enthusiasts. The boat club, sunset, aquarium serenaded by the cool breeze of Bhopal is a perfect getaway.

Birla Museum- The remnants of Madhya Pradesh's glorious pre-historic era is perfectly preserved in the Birla Museum. The museum contains objects used by the Paleolithic and Neolithic man, stone sculptures from 7th to 13th century BC and manuscripts and terracotta belonging to 2nd century BC

This museum is a must-visit for all history and archeology enthusiasts.

Shaukat Mahal- Shaukat Mahal is one of the most beautiful buildings in Bhopal which has a distinct architecture - a blend of Indo-Islamic and European styles.

Raisen Fort - Raisen, the ancient fort was constructed during the 6th century. The fort is situated on top of a hill and it houses palaces, temples and lakes and ponds. It once had 1an impressive 84 numbers of lakes and ponds but over the years the number has reduced to 15. Shrine of Hazrat Peer Fatehullah Shah Baba in this fort is most frequented. The fort has a rich history and has witnessed many battles. One of the famous rulers who ruled the fort is Sher Shah Suri.

Moti Majid- The city of Bhopal is often called the city of mosques due to the presence of a number of historical mosques and monuments within its walls. the beautiful Moti Masjid is an important historical landmark of the Muslims in Bhopal. The architectural design of the Moti Masjid has a striking resemblance to the famous Jama Masjid in Delhi.
