Heart Of Wales Line - Episode 32, Day 54 - Swansea to Shrewsbury
It's the 29th June, and we make it to the ❤ Of Wales line! Which we've been looking forward to since the start of the trip, surely one of Britain's most scenic railways?
We stop at the least used station in Wales, go over a gorgeous viaduct, meet some local volunteers who tend to their local station and catch with an author who knows a thing or two about travelling on the rails themselves. Vicki's Welsh is slowly improving day by day too, Geoff's less so.

'THE HEART OF WALES' 5MT's 45407 & 44871 Nottingham to Cardiff 07/05/2012
I was apprehensive in going out to film this train today as the weather forecast was not good. However I ventured up the Heart of Wales Line and the two locos are seen accelerating away from a Level Crossing and steadily climbing to the summit at Sugar Loaf. Despite windy conditions, this location once again had an almost eerie still feel about it. A quick dash Southwards to the next location at Derwydd Road sees the duo storm through and heading for the next water stop at Panyffynnon. As I approached the M4 it brightened up so I decided to make for Briton Ferry where the Swansea avoiding line joins the South Wales Main line. The train had made up time, but was held at the station for an up Swansea to Paddington HST service. The heavens opened up as the train restarted, but stopped as the train went around the corner..not the best of shots, but as I was soaked doing it, then it had to stay in....Thanks to West Coast Railways, The Railway Touring Company and all the Staff and Crews for putting on such an excellent show.

#EveryDisusedStation #Abandonedrailway #disusedrailway
Welcome to Episode 14 of Every Disused Station. We intended to travel along the old abandoned railway from Aberystwyth down to Carmarthen and all the disused stations in between,.... that didn't quite go to plan! We take a look at much of the heritage along the line.
Our goal is to visit every disused station (yes all 6800) in the UK. This is our latest adventure. We hope you enjoy it.
Disclaimers and thanks:
1) Big thanks to Andrea who is helping us with all things welsh, mainly pronunciations! Andrea will be in the next two videos.
2) But... they are still shocking, so apologies. Pont Llanio is a great example. Sorry.
3) All music licensed through Epidemicsound and Artlist.io
4) To the lady with the drive that we inadvertently parked on in TynyCraig, we are truly sorry. It was a very big drive, which highlighted why we didn't realise it was actually a drive. Despite you suggesting that you wouldn't park on our drive way, you would of course be extremely welcome. Our only regret is that we couldn't apologise to you, as you wouldn't lets us get a word in edge-ways. We are genuinely sorry and hope we didn't inconvenience you.
5) We think the gap at Llanilar platform was for point levers. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

I really love the atmosphere on the train; gentle laughter and chatter to the background of the old train tracks.
Welsh Marches Driver's eye view preview
video125.co.uk Welsh Marches Newport to Crewe Driver's eye view. The term Welsh Marches refers to the border area between Wales and England. The railway diverging from the South Wales Main Line at Newport closely follows the border through Abergavenny, Hereford, Shrewsbury and Nantwich. We join a 3-car class 175 Coradia DMU en route from Milford Haven to Manchester Piccadilly on the approach to Newport, the area having only recently been re-signalled to the South Wales Control Centre. From the SWCC, signalling passes to a 1960's panel signal box at Little Mill and then to traditional mechanical signalling at Abergavenny. Cameras inside all three signal boxes vividly show this technological progression.
Dozens of former and existing junctions coupled with some magnificent scenery make this is a fascinating route, filmed in mid-summer sunshine all the way to Crewe. Dozens of mechanical signal boxes control our progress, including Europe's largest at Shrewsbury. Much of the history of the line as well as the current day operation of this Arriva Trains Wales service is in the narration.

UK - North Wales Coast Diesel Parade.
I re-visited some of my old haunts in North Wales in October 2019, and was lucky enough to have been around on the 12th October, to view the Colas-operated railhead treatment train, and a special which was top and tailed by DRS class 68's from London Euston to Llandudno Junction. In between these trains, I was entertained by the various classes of diesel multiple units which still frequent North Wales, including class 150, class 158 and class 175, some still adorned in Arriva trains livery.

Not the best day for seeing a steam tour to be honest. First of all, 47245 and 47760 arrived into Platform 1 at Newport in pouring rain and then they departed away from Newport towards Maindee Junction instead of Cardiff Pengam Sidings.
Then went to Cardiff to see the black 5's, they went through on time but instead of going passed on a through line, they passed through Platform 4 which meant the video wasn't great.
Then things start to go badly wrong. They didn't go to Cardiff Pengam Sidings because i saw the tour on a Class 170 to Nottingham just outside Newport. I then saw the black 5's at Newport, but then the camcorder run out of battery and then i caught a HST back to Bristol when the 47s are ready to depart from Newport.
A really bad day in the office for me.
