Pumpkin Patch
Original upload date: Oct 19, 2009
These are some of the pumpkin patches I've checked out this year 2008. This is typical of Florida and it was only last year that I found out this is out of the ordinary as all other states have real patches where families can go on the farms and pick pumpkins off the vines. It's nearly impossible to grow pumpkins down here so they are trucked in from other states and these tents are set up at churches and schools. Yes we get jipped. And no one seems to have hard shelled gourds this year either.
But pumpkins are what Halloween is about so it's great to see so many in one place and so many types. I LOVE pumpkins. I wish these patches would stay up through Thanksgiving as pumpkins are for two holidays. But they are gone after Halloween.
I don't know the name of this song. Someone else had it on their pumpkin video. So if you guys can tell me who did it I'd love to get the CD as I like kids songs like this. And no it's not by Stephen Foster. That line is a reference to the music Camptown Races that it's set to that was written by Foster. So I still don't know who sings this song or what it's called. But it's so darn cute!
EDIT: July 24 2010, just found out the song. It's called Pumpkin Doo Dah Day by Earthlings Electric Washboard Band.

How Does The Civil War Qualify as the First Modern War?
For 5,800 years of recorded history, wars were fought with pre-modern forms of transportation ad communication, where the world was powered by windmills, watermills, literal horse power and human muscle. However, this all changed with the invention of the steam engine and its implementation in the 19th century. In fifty short years, macadamized roads, canals, steam trains, steam boats, steam presses and telegraph communication revolutionized the transfer of energy and power. By the 1850s, every aspect of western civilization looked and functioned differently than it had for thousands of years. It was in this milieu the Civil War was fought. What did the first modern war look like and how did it differ from previous wars? How did wartime observations by foreign emissaries alter the course of future wars?
