The World’s Largest Insect Has Been Discovered IN China
Puppies, kittens, infants: All adorable. And do you know why? Because they’re tiny. If you start to magnify these things, then you wind up with the substantially less cute wolves, jaguars and teenagers.
Yes, if there’s one thing nature teaches us, it’s that what may start out as an adorable little animal friend can quickly turn into horror when its itty-bitty mouth gets big enough to start eating your face. And when the little versions are already creepy, the big versions are the stuff nightmares are made of. Case in point: this ridiculously huge bug that was recently discovered.
Armed with huge, nightmarish pincers, this is officialy the world’s largest insect. It was recently discovered in China’s Sichuan province by local villagers who handed them over to Insect Museum of West China. Several of these odd critters were examined by the museum and found to be unusually large specimens of the giant dobsonfly, which is native to China and Vietnam.
The giant dobsonfly makes its home in bodies of clean water and is highly sensitive to any changes in the water’s pH as well as the presence of trace elements of pollutants. If the water is slightly contaminated, the giant dobsonfly will move on to seek cleaner waters.
The insect can be found in other provinces in China, India’s Assam state, and in northern Vietnam. This is the first time it has appeared in Sichuan province.
Even though it looks like it could make the heads of 20 elephants explode with a single bite, they are in fact quite harmless. The female, whose mandibles are more functional, might nip if provoked, but she too is harmless.

Zhengzhou, Henan Province, 689km SW of Beijing, 998km NW of Shanghai.
Zhengzhou, a sprawling industrial city of 7 million，and Zhengzhou is a major railway junction between the Long-hai railway (east-west) and the Jingguang railway (north-south). Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport is 35 km southeast of the city centre.
Zhengzhou was once a former ancient Shang dynasty (1700-1100 B.C.) capital, though few traces of its 3,000-year history remain. Many travelers simply overnight here en route to Kaifeng and Luoyang, but there are a few lesser known but intriguing sights in the surrounding area. Zhengzhou's proximity to the Yellow River (20km to the north) also makes it a convenient base from which to explore the river.
Zhengzhou is a dusty, flat industrial city set amid the farmland of central China. As the city has few scenic attractions, most travellers use Zhengzhou as a resting place or a transfer point on the way to nearby tourist spots such as the Shaolin Temple and the Longmen Grottoes of Luoyang.
Zhengzhou's most notable cultural institution is the Henan Museum, one of China's most important museums.
Zhengzhou has been one of the major industrial cities in China since 1949. The city's staple industry is textiles. Others manufactured items include tractors, locomotives, cigarettes, fertilizer, processed meats, agricultural machinery, and electrical equipment.

Aerial view of Ebo Tai, Shangqiu, Henan, People's Republic of China. The Ebo Tai preserved today is of tomb shape, 35 meters high, with a 270-meter-circumference. It was built of ramming clay. Tiles and pottery were among tier upon tier of ramming clay, which might come from Han Dynasty. Because of the sand and mud sludge of the Yellow River, the original Ebo Tai is dimly visible under the present one. The dune under Ebo Tai is the place which Ebo conferred as Shangqiu. This is the way Shangqiu gaining its name. Erected on the plain which stretches to the horizon, it looks much taller and loftier. It is the highest point in the ancient Shangqiu towns, along with the thought of ancient people that Ebo Tai complied with Shang Star; it has been regarded as the symbol of Shangqiu since ancient times.
